I'm benching Andre Johnson vs. Revis Island for.... (1 Viewer)

I love how people pat themselves on the back for stuff like this. You play the percentages. Most of the time AJ will put up a good or better game against any defense, including the Jets and Revis. To me, he's one of those guys you simply always start. Period. That doesn't mean that he won't occasionally put up a stinker . . . although you could do a lot worse than 5.2 PPR points.
It's becoming a pattern that when healthy, Revis will shut down whomever he is covering. And 5.2 points in a PPR stinks, btw.
Ask Randy Moss what a bad PPR game looks like.

If 0-0-0 over 5 quarters is the point at which a squirrel draws the line for a stinker, then go nuts.

Revis had help, like a safety over the top, on a lot of plays yesterday, but 4-32-0 is still a very mediocre day for a stud like AJ, so the result sucks regardless of how much help Revis did or didn't have.

Yup, there is a lesson to be learned here. its kind of easy to say NBYS and all, but the idea IS to score as many points as you can. I typically have no problem with not getting cute and leaving the studs in the lineup vs. a FOTM, but there IS a good chunk of data that say Revis vs. anybody="look for a substitute and if that sub is >7 points, go with it".

This year, more than any, has been whacky so I think playing the matchups and thinking a bit more than usual is warranted this year.

Revis has allowed an average of 2 receptions and 21 yards a game with 0 TDs since declaring his hamstring 100% prior to Green Bay game. He's the only CB I'd shut down AJ for because he's just that damn good.

The only receiver you should start against the Jets is the TE because the Jets' safeties suck at coverage.

Aint this the truth. Smith is awful.

I was there. Not as much help as you think. There was a lot of times when Revis was hanging with AJ alone. Schaub stopped looking at him.

True. But there were also a lot of times where Revis did have help. In that situation, if I am the QB, and my stud WR is going against a shutdown corner like that AND he is getting help sometimes, I probably would look elsewhere, too. It is hard enough to beat Revis one-on-one, but when he is getting help, it is even more difficult. And the other Houston WRs aren't doing anything to help AJ, so why not give Revis some help sometimes and let the others take care of those other guys who aren't doing anything anyway.

I agree. You effectively have a wasted roster spot if you start a WR vs. Reevis. This year it is without question. But, it still takes balls to sit him.I did for BJGE and worked out ok.

I see what you're saying now, very true. Especially when the Jets D gives up lots of room in the middle/medium area of the field. you just go there instead and every once in a while you corss AJ and make him match up against Leonhard instead of Revis.

I don't see Revis getting help, especially now that he is healthy. The Jets don't double-team Revis's receiver. The only way the safeties aren't back there to "help" is is you move them up in the box or put both on the other side (which happens often enough the way the Jets blitz and they double the other receiver). Besides, the Jets safeties are no help. They are slow in coverage. Watch them on just about every pass play and you'll see them running late to the play. They are exposed in space which is why the slot receivers and TEs have big days.Of Johnson's four receptions, one came against Eric Smith. I think another was against Kyle Wilson. The third was like a 2-3 yard short pass where he was tackled by a LB. The fourth one was a pass in front of Revis when I believe that the Jets were playing zone coverage.

Considering Revis held TO to a combined 44 yards in 2 games last year (albeit on a bad Bills team), and TO is a top five WR in FF right now, you would think Rex would have to lock him up with Revis again this year. Ocho and Cromartie will be more of a fun matchup to watch.

Darrelle Revis revealed that he will cover Terrell Owens in the Jets' matchup with the Bengals on Thanksgiving.Antonio Cromartie will be on Chad Ochocinco, according to Revis. Revis, who's blanketed Andre Johnson (4-32) and Calvin Johnson (1-13) over the past three weeks, held Owens to 31 yards on three grabs in Week 13 of last season. We'd have a hard time playing either wideout in fantasy leagues. Nov. 22 - 4:12 pm etSource: Manish Mehta on Twitter
