In this thread I rank my favorite Beatles songs: 204-1. (1 Viewer)

I did a take of my first song intro that wasn't half bad.  It was about 40% bad.  i did nail the "Beatle fan Krista" part without laughing, though!
Excellent!

Now, in regards to 40% bad - no problem, if you are willing/able to use Audacity.

I have used it to cut/copy/paste/overlay/speed up/slow down/etc.

Thus, you can keep the good; cut the bad; and then paste to other goods from other takes.

1.  Sound quality was a little echo-y or sounded slightly like I was in a prison cell (which I was not).  Do I need to be in a smaller space?  Pillows?  Or is this something they'd fix?  I was doing it on voice memo on my phone, if that matters.
Anything that absorbs sound, without reflecting it back to the mic will help. This can be done with things like egg carton-like walls, or a room with good sound absorbing furniture/carpet. Avoid wooden floors and confined spaces. Outdoors could be good if you don't have a lot of environmental noise.

You can also get echo-y effects from the mic itself, thus, if it is your phone mic causin it, there may be not a whole lot of improvement possible. I have no clue what their sound people can/will do.

2.  The people they have doing these usually sound giddy to be there.  I do not sound giddy (mostly because I am not).  Without resorting to wine, how can I give myself a little more oomph?
Think of something stupid, funny, absurd, etc. - something that would normally make you laugh - and act like you are talking to your best pals - casual like.

Don't be afraid to laugh, pause, make a minor mistake, etc. Keep recording. Sometimes, the OOOPS are the best takes. Even if you don't get a full take at this level, you can still cut and paste it into an edited final version.

Always remember, this is not a formal speech or debate/etc. - have fun!

Two issues, any suggestions welcome:

1.  Sound quality was a little echo-y or sounded slightly like I was in a prison cell (which I was not at the time).  Do I need to be in a smaller space?  Pillows?  Or is this something they'd fix?  I was doing it on voice memo on my phone, if that matters.

2.  The people they have doing these usually sound giddy to be there.  I do not sound giddy (mostly because I am not); I sound more like your friend talking to you about whatever BS you talk about.  Without resorting to wine, how can I give myself a little more oomph?
1. Record it under a comforter.

2. I wouldn't worry about this. Just be you and it'll be great.

I suggest autotune processing over a rousing vocal fry rendition of your material. The echo will make it all just that more awesome.
I have my tape loops of cats meowing ready to add.  👍

Thanks for the advice so far.  Going to try again upstairs where there’s carpet.  And a comforter.

Oh, and while it’s good advice, cutting, splicing, speed changes, etc all represent way more work than I am willing to put in here.

Understood. 👍

How much time do you have to fill per intro?
There were zero guidelines given.  Just a framework with this repeated slightly differently each time:

Break 3:  Back sell Song 2. You will say... "That was __Song 2___..." Reset "My Name is ______ (first name only, Town/State) and you’re listening to My Fab Four from the Beatles, On Sirius XM….Now talk about and introduce your 3rd song (include a story)
This is going to be shocking, but my tendency is to say too much.  I have the first one pithy enough in my head, I think, but I'm still struggling with song 3 and maybe song 4.

ok, thnx.

With this much lee-way, I can understand the difficulty.

Next, have you written a script, or are you improv'ing each take based on an internal script?

Some people prefer one method over another - if you are having trouble with one, try the other.

And, since you are shooting for one uninterrupted take, I would make it as tight as possible. I have difficulty with this BIG time.

Two down-ish.  I have an um and a too-long pause in the first one.  I might have to figure out how to edit (it is not immediately obvious to me how to snip those out).  And I still feel like I am lacking in enough oomph, especially in the first one.  But I have something semi-acceptable for these two, at least.  In their current state, I don't think they'd be used.  Each about a minute long.  Not sure if that's too long or not.  They do tell you to give a "story" and I'm not sure how to do that with less time.

Three down!  I think they're getting better, but that one was about 1:15.  Could be too long.  Also might need to redo the first one entirely.

I'm considering just sending these to the guy as they are to see if I'm even in the ballpark of what he's looking for.  I don't want to spend a bunch of time on it and then find I was nowhere near, and since I didn't receive any guidance, I really don't know.  Thoughts?

Sent!  I let the guy know they weren't perfected but I just figured I'd see if I was in the right zip code.  If not, I'm probably not the right person for this.   :)   It's harder for me to tell "stories" since I have no Beatles memories until I was a fully formed adult.  Well, as fully formed as I'm going to get.

So...I got this email back already:

"I received your audio files. Your show is very unique. I love the novel approach.

We should be airing it sometime in late April or early May."

How sweet, right?

I asked if I would get some idea when/if it airs.
Soooo swwweeeeeet!

Knew you would do it!

Unique. Novel.

Bravo!

Note: Sorry bout my uncharacteristic lack of moji's.

Uncle wikkid is grumpy bout em. I think all the motion so packed in is giving him flashbacks from his late chick stage.

That's my theory least. <shrug>

Thanks.  Maybe the guy is just really nice.  I asked if I'd get any further idea of airing, so we can have a listening party (I did NOT mention that   ), and I haven't heard.  We'll see.   :)

Btw, @Kilgore Trout, I took you off the email chain when I sent, just so you could be "surprised" with everyone else if/when you hear it.

Nice guy? Novel.

Listening party you did not say?

Well, I most definitely do not accept the invitation!

I haven't heard either. Sorry.

I can not wait to see!

@Kilgore Trout is the man who opened this in the door!  Well done! Success!

Update:  he says he'll "aim to email the week before."  I'll keep checking in on the station since I have streaming, too.   :)

Love it!   :lmao:  I hope Beatles channel listening will spike that week.
...will spike that week.

<thinking>

At a place like FBG, there's gotta be some kinda ad mad-genius that could devise a plot to manipulate the numbers.

We pull it off proper-like, and you may move up from Beatle Fan Krista to Fab Four Phenom - From the Internet - Krista - New permanent host of the Fab Four!

OH LOOKOUT!

(yes - I am doing that blood-curdlin' version - didn't wanna scar Argonaut, so you'll have to imagine-like.)

It'd be fun shtick to submit a list with "Revolution 9", "Her Majesty" and a couple more weird/odd not-so-air-friendly bits
I wonder if they’ve ever played Revolution 9 on there.  Don’t think I’ve heard it.

Also it just occurred to me that I could have worked your screen name into one of my intros pretty easily and didn’t.   :(

I did get pieces of several others in.

I have to warn that my intros to songs 1, 3, and 4 are super-sappy.  I had to word them that way to work in what I wanted.  It’s weird since I’m not at all sappy in real life.

Well, I did cry watching The Lion King and at least one Muppet movie, but mostly not sappy.

I've honestly only heard one "My Fab Four" segment.  Are they always on at the same time on the same day or somesuch?  I know I was driving home at night when I heard it.

Eesh, I hear them all the time.  You can check out the channel's schedule here.  Looks like the next one is at 3 pm EDT today and then another at 10 pm EDT.

I have only been listening whilst I drive, and those are two times I'm not generally driving.
Looks like it’s not the same every day.  Tomorrow, for instance, is 5 am, 2 pm, and 8 pm.  I listen almost exclusively whilst driving, too, but since I work from home my drive times are erratic.

The question is:  would you like the song as much if it were titled "Whilst My Guitar Gently Weeps"?  I think I might like it more.

Understandable, in my wilder days I had issues drivin' home as well...erratic really.

<thinkin deeper>

But, if ya drive to work at home - where do ya sleep? Or, have ya just given up on that entirely?

<confused MoCS>

😜

Sorry.

To make amends, I am working on a new theme song for your soon to be regular show:

It was bout two months ago today

When krista4 started the whole foray

She's been ranking up and down the aisles

And gathered-up'a bunch'a imbeciles

So may I introduce to you

The act you've shun'd for all these years

krista4 - From The Internet's Claaaaaaaaan!!!

We're krista4 - From The Internet's Clan

We hope you will enjoy her show

krista4 - From The Internet's Clan

Sit back and let your mind be blown

krista4's im-b-ciles, krista4's im-b-ciles

krista4 - From The Internet's Clan

It's wonderful to be here

It's not our padded cell

It's much a saner ambiance

We'd like to bake you can-na-bis

We'd bet it kick your can!

To be honest, never read her posts

But I thought you might like this most

That krista4's ranked ev'ry Beatles song

And she wants you all to rank along

So let me introduce to you

The one and only krista4

And krista4 - From The Internet's Claaaaaaaaan!!!!!!!!!

No feel bad, K. ☹️

If it make you feel better, I always see you as a sap! 🙂

By the way, I wanted to go ahead and break the news to you that Across The Universe didn’t make the cut.   :(   Since they play the song, I was concerned they might use the Spector version.

Feel free to speculate wildly on which four did make it.  Hint:  three were from my top 10.

Mr R was very puzzled.  At least I didn't have to explain FBG or the people to him.  That sped things up.
Speaking of this, I posted on FB today that this was coming, and now my real-life friends are asking me how it came about.  I don’t even know where to start!   :lmao:   I think only one of them knows this place exists.
