In this thread I rank my favorite Beatles songs: 204-1. (1 Viewer)

It's been awhile but I am happy to see the thread lives!  I'm sure Krista or someone has mentioned many of these covers but one of my favorite part of the Beatles music is hearing other artists' interpretations on it. Here's what I have been listening to:

Yesterday- Gladys Knight and The Pips

Hey Jude- Wilson Pickett - James Brown level fire

Across the Universe- Fiona Apple- She can make any spng seem dirty

Why Don't We Do It In the Road-Lowell Fulson- It works much better as a full on blues song

Run for your Life- Cowboy Junkies- I like the role reversal here

Eleanor Rigby- The Ventures- the intro is a mes but once the guitar comes in this thing becomes a rock jazz classical flurry

Yesterday- Smokey Robinson and the Miracles

Penny Lane- Judy Collins- her voice fits the song better, I am not a fan of the Beatles version but this one works

Eleanor Rigby- Johnny Mathis- It's honestly sounds so good

I Want to Tell You- The Smithereens - Just a good rocker

Norwegian Wood- Tangerine Dream (Live) Ilov80s

So this song was on like 5 of the first 7 lists I received and as you can see above, highly ranked by them.  I was quite shocked that for awhile in the beginning, that this might be a Top 10 Composite Rank.....  And then it appeared only only 2 of the last 28 lists received.

I had this at #19.     I had this as #1 for Krista because: Ringo!!

Paul and Ringo live...2009
Ok, I just finished watching this vid.

This is now my 1st official & major regret regarding my rankings.

Seeing Ringo & Paul there, in the way they performed it, reminded me that...well..it's hard to describe, but friends are more important than a lot of the other things I scored to make my list.

Now, it's an easy top 25 - maybe 10 as well.

Nice link. 👍

HOO-yeah!

Reminds of something too.

I didn't grow up in a cultured environ. No real exposure to classical music...except for the elements the Beatles incorporated into their music.

Finally, in my Junior year of high school, I had an elective available - "Humanities". Covered classical music, painting and drama/opera. My favorite class ever.

Now, I'm not claiming to be knowledgable on this stuff - hell, it was one semester. But, I have had a lifelong love of classical music since.

Thanks to the Beatles. 😊

This song is so underrated!

Old live version
This would not have been in my top 25 3 months ago, mainly because it's underplayed and as a fairly casual Beatler, I wasn't real familiar with it.  Now it's my #2, and maybe the only reason why it's not #1 is "In My Life" has been my #1 for years and I still love it.  But, I said this upthread and I maintain it, this, in my estimation, is as close to a perfect song as I can imagine.  Simple yet technically advanced, enough tempo to drive but contemplative enough to near ballad-status, a deep meaning to the lyrics that explore a part of a relationship many songs don't touch, and the most pure, sublime two-part harmonies.  Glad to see others rate it so high.
