FUMBLES (G.Wistrom), and recovers at ARZ 35. K.Warner to ARZ 35 for no gain (M.Tubbs). 3-15-ARI35 (3:04) K.Warner sacked at ARZ 28 for -7 yards (D.Tapp). 4-22-ARI28 (2:53) S.Player punts 37 yards to SEA 35, Center-N.Hodel, fair catch by J.Williams.
Someone explain to me like I'm an FFAer, what the the Cards were doing here. They trailed by 11 with no timeouts.

lol

why would any professional football coach PUNT away the football when his team is down by TWO scores with three minutes left? why not just concede the loss and get an earlier plane home? disgraceful

A coach who had the Seattle/Under parlay

I didn't see the game, but it's 4th and 22, the D has their ears pinned back, has just hit your QB twice, at least once hard, you're deep in your own territory. It's game 2 of the season. You don't want him to get hammered again. Even if you're successful, you have to get a score preferably the FG, because it takes less time, an onsides recovery and then the TD. I'd say he was hoping for a botched fair catch and recovery. It's as good as the odds on a 4th and 22, when you've just been sacked on 2nd and 6 and 3rd and 15.

Could they have gone for it? Sure, but they didn't. All calls that don't work are easy to second guess on Monday AM. Not going for it on 4th and 22 on your own 28, down by 11, with 2:53 left and no timeouts, is a reasonable call, given the situation. It's not like the game was on the line and they were knocking on the door.

Not bad. But the poor clock management began with 1st down and concluded with the punt. The whole series was just bad.

No enough info here. I did not watch the game but would like a full description of what occured (offensive and defensive alignment, Play flow and coverages, etc). With no time-outs remaining my assumption is the defense was taking away the side-lines and given up the middle of the field.

He gets bewildered and confused, maybe wARNER SHOULD HAVE TAKEN A KNEE AND HOPED FOR THE BEST IN OT! Woops wrong game..

That's because Dennis Green got preferential treatment since the NFL handed out that memo to the NFL owners a few years back. Same goes to Art Shell of Oakland, Herm Edwards of KC, and Romeo Crennel of the Browns. They all suck as coaches. The only exception to the rule is Marvin Lewis...who turned around the worst NFL franchise in history to a super-stud laden team (if they can stay healthy).

i appreciate your perspective (and your pointing out the odds of success of conversion) but the fact remains you either win or lose... doesn't matter if you lose by 2 or 20 at that point: with less than 3 minutes left on the clock you will definitely lose when you punt the ball... horrid decision

Check the Cardinals drive at the end of the first half for bad clock management, too. I was at the game, and that series was comical.

I was just searching the game thread for this very topic. It was painful to watch the last quarter of playcalling for the Cardinals. A decent Madden gamer could have utilized the clock better. I had no rooting interest in the game, but I became furious at the way they managed the clock. I have been checking for press reports to see if anyone brought this up with Denny Green after the game, and I don't see anything.

Kurt Warner also had his deer in headlights look back. You can tell he was rattled early and started his ball patting and huge eye look. The Seahawks should have had at least 4 picks that were thrown right in their hands. The Cardinals will be an average team that puts up good garbage point numbers until they replace Warner. Their offensive line played poorly, butWarner was flustered and either throwing off the wrong foot or holding the ball too long.

P.S. I couldn't believe they huddling up and running the ball with 4:00 minutes left. I don't know how a coach gets away with this without a big uproar from fans/analysts. I guess it helps that the Cardinals do not have much of a backing, but for an NFL coaching staff this is unbelievable.

Gee, I thought Denny got the job, because all he did was win 10 games a year, just about every year in Minny, and then Tica takes over and they don't sniff the playoffs? Guess I saw something different. Huddling up down by 11 w/ 4:00 valid criticism, and really the only valid criticism I've seen. Nobody has said, they should have done this, because of this. Down by 11 deep in your own territory, there's not a lot you can do. They dropped back to pass, three times, got sacked twice. They ran once on first and ten at the 5:30 mark, and I would guess it was a draw, trying to catch the pass rush. It didn't work. Everything else was a pass. Criticizing all black coaches? Moronic. How aobut Tony Dungy? Or Lovie Smith? I think Romeo is doing pretty good. He's only had two seasons to take a franchise that had nothing. Lovie inherited a great defense. Marv got Rudi, Chad and Carson. Tony got that great O. If you're so ignoranto to believe that that the melonin level effects coaching ability, there's really not much need to discuss it.
