Indefinite New England Patriots Thread (14 Viewers)

If they had lost because of that Kearse catch....

Bill Simmons' dad said something like, "This will sound crazy to anyone who's not a New England fan but, don't you think we were due?"

We were due.

Patriots announce special teams coach Scott O'Brien to retire. Assistant Joe Judge named special teams coach.

Mike Reiss@MikeReiss 7 minutes ago
Similar to Dante Scarnecchia last year, the retirement of Scott O'Brien was fully expected by Bill Belichick throughout 2014.

Patriots special teams ranked No. 3 in annual Dallas Morning News rankings. Scott O'Brien an excellent coach. Joe Judge has been groomed.
Hes been a hell of a coach, hopefully he groomed Judge well enough, the transition after Scarnecchia left was rough.

Just saw this on Reddit.

Holy #### am I pumped to have this kid.

Jamie Collins on 3rd and 2 stands Max Unger straight up, pushes him back then tackles Lynch behind the LOS.

Also big papa Vince crashing through the right side.

Love this. Good to see Dilfer add a different voice. By the way, Carter has been relentless over this.....and his son just signed with the Colts. Coincidence or conspiracy?
He blasted Steve Young and Ray Lewis as well during one of the pregames, ill see if I can find it.

Hes really trying to make up for his stupid comments earlier this year and I hope he really feels that way.

Couldn't find a better video, but its good enough

Did you see the NFL Network segment where Rapoport reports the PSI of 11 balls were either at 1 psi or a few ticks under? Rich Eisen started trolling Warner and Faulk right after that. It was hilarious.

Edelman to Belichick

Waiting patiently for someone to upload the Inside the NFL from tonight it has so much stuff from the game - including this.
Edelman spoke for all of us didn't he. I would have run through a brick wall for Belichik on Sunday. I was never so pumped for a game my whole life. It was almost unhealthy. The way Belichik handled deflategate - putting the quarterback, the team, the city, and the fans on his back - was the stuff of legend.

Inside the NFL of Super Bowl 49 (60 mins)

Has a lot of really great shots, watching through it now, will post back with timeline.
Watched this last night. Great shots throughout, and as hard as those two teams went at each other throughout that game, I thought some of the interaction post play ( Brady with a "Nice hit,72" and Kearse telling Butler "we all just compete" was much more respectful and sportsmanlike than I would have thought. Same with Sherman / Brady at the end, which they caught perfectly ( though I thought the dramatic slo-mo with Sherman offering his hand was a little heavy-handed )

Loved the Brady pregame (screamed) message.

Yes, starts at the 30:30 mark, its part of a couple of moments lasting about 2 minutes. Super emotional.

Also, getting rid of Mccourty is like the worst decision the Pats can make, the kid has been one of the best safeties in the league since moving to safety full time.

Gotta keep Mccourty and Revis, make the rest work.

You watch that fourth quarter again, and Butler played a hell of a game. We'll be seeing more of him next year. Great to the ball. You wonder if the game is moving past small DBs, but really impressed w/21.

Great stuff. So awesome. Man, did Edelman come through.

So looking at the 2015 Cap

A lot of big names to resign:
Revis
Mccourty
Connolly
Gostkowski
Vereen
Ridley
Ayers
Casillas
Develin
Siliga

The FA market is gonna be nuts this off season as well.

Is there like any chance at all they resign Revis, Mccourty, Conolly, Vereen, Ayers, Develin, maybe Casillas and Siliga - and can still afford to go after someone in free agency? Id like to see the Pats add another TE, Rob Housler, Jordan Cameron, Charles Clay - play heavier formations try to balance the offense back out.

well, miguel has us 4m over, but that's with revis at 25m which won't be happening

I think revis and mccourty are the only pending big tickets -- the rest of those are smaller $ guys

Looking over that spreadsheet leads me to believe that they will cut Vince.
Can't decipher this spreadsheet, I was under the impression that if Wilfork or Mayo were cut it would still cost them like 66%+ of their cost anyway?

I read it that if they cut Vince by June 1st it only costs them 433K and they save 7.5M towards the cap. I love Vince but seems like the obvious move thst would allow them to hold onto Revis and McCourty.

first of all, I don't have any idea why people would think about cutting vince.

he extended last march, I think it was, and looking at miguel's stuff just now it looks like he's due a 4m roster bonus on the first day of the 2015 league year, so that'd be the relevant number on that situation.

looks like you had it pretty much right on mayo --- they really couldn't save much by cutting him.

looks like it'd be a few million savings if they waited 'til after 6/01 to push some of the hit into next year, and I'm assuming this also involves him passing a physical, which apparently gets them off the hook on guaranteed salary.

I expect mayo will have recovered and be back with the team next year.

My god...

Hightower, Mayo, Collins, Ayers, Nink, Chandler Jones, Wilfork and hopefully Easley (he looked okay in the few snaps he took, snagged a pick on the line)

I was really impressed with Ayers this year, he didn't see a ton of action, but when he was on the field he made his presence known. Also, where was Chung on Sunday? I don't remember seeing him at all.

first of all, it's all about that 4m roster bonus due at the start of the league year.

they aren't cutting him, but if they did have some kind of plan to do that they'd just do it before paying out on that and save the 4m right there, I'd assume, plus the 3m in upcoming salary -- but they aren't doing that.

they aren't cutting a key player that they just signed to this deal less than 12 months ago, and they don't need to cut him for any of these signings, anyway.

as I mentioned, these figures are all accounting for revis at 25m which will never happen.

if they extend revis out it will be a huge cap savings, not an additional cap hit.

there is no possible scenario where they actually need more cap room for revis as he already accounts for an unreasonable chunk of it.

I found the defense disappointing in these playoffs. Maybe Baltimore was just finding that old magic, but I thought they moved the ball way easier than I was anticipating. Even the Seahawks -- a lot of catches made by those no-name WRs. I know Wilson throws it beautiful deep, but those are still low percentage plays.

I'm more worried about D than I thought I'd be.
Name me one defense that played lights out in the playoffs? I agree there is always room for improvement but they held their own as well as any other defense did. They had a solid SB IMO other than the deep balls that Seattle converted. Teams are going to score, it's just the way the league is with all the rules slanted towards offense.

I love Vince but he fits the profile of a guy hey look to cut a year too soon instead of a year too late. While I understand if they sign Revis to a multi-year contract his cap hit goes down but that still doesn't give them enough money to retain all the other guys they probably want to retain. Also, they could run into issues trying to sign Revis to a new deal and if that happens they would be wise to suck up the big cap hit and pay him the money next year on the current deal.

they are currently, like, 4m OVER the cap and you think they should soak up 25m in cap on a corner?

revis is that good?

I'll tell you right now if it comes down to keeping revis or vince, it'd be vince -- but it doesn't have to be one or the other

I think they should work out a long term deal with Revis but worst case would be letting him walk. Again, I love Vince but he is far more replaceable at this stage of his career than the best corner in the game and it isn't even close.

While I agree with the sentiment towards Revis, there isn't a replacement for a guy who commands two blockers on literally every snap.

the curse of logan mankins --- drafted a few months after the last sb, traded a few months before this one
Ouch.

Mankins probably played the worst game of his career in SB42. He probably played his 2nd worst in SB46, but he was playing with a torn up knee.
