Indefinite New York Jets Official thread - **2025 season** - The indefinite rebuild continues (3 Viewers)

I think the low ranking is more than fair. I don't know what else to say other than that. Our DEs are either hurt or got pushed around last year. Q is alone in the middle for the most part. Sauce can't tackle. Our LBs are very good, but it's not a premium position. So we have a NT or DI and a good LB corps with one CB and one nickel back.

On offense, we have a QB nobody seems to think can hack it, an RB coming off a questionable year, one WR1 and then nothing at 2 or 3, what seems like a very promising OL, and a promising TE draft pick.

There's a lot we don't have cemented. No offense to you and optimism RAGE, but I'm not sure I can get too worked up about ESPN's ranking. I don't see more than a six or seven win season. I also see the organization turning around. We're going to have to take our lumps this year. That seems apparent to me. The real question is how do we handle it? I think patience is in order. Instead of a knee-jerk reaction, we need to trust Mougey and Glenn for more than a year before Woody comes stomping back in and ruining continuity and chain of command stuff.

That's going to be the real test—not whether we win eight or six games.

No offense taken and I'm not worked up at all about it. I'm usually pretty ----------------------------. That's how I describe my heartbeat.

Someone commented on our talent, so I thought of this article that just came out. I just disagree with it and some of your takes.

E.g. I noted that we either have someone returning from injury like Jermaine Johnson or we drafted a replacement for some of our weaker spots, but I don't want to re-hash/re-write everything again.

Regarding Hall, I have to laugh at the criticism I have seen this year. Sure, he's a tick down since coming back from injury or whatever and may not break a tackle, but he's still one of the most talented overall backs in the league. He can run and he can catch. If anyone thinks RB or him specifically is a concern, then I don't know what to say. The only concern is if we are going to give him another contract since you can always draft a cheap one.

Toe injury. Severity unknown yet.
So that sounds like missing some of camp/preseason but likely ready for Week 1.

We can thank Connor Hughes for creating panic. Glenn thinks the toe was stepped on.

To be honest, Fields probably can't afford to miss any camp time. I actually think the offense would run better with Tyrod, but the problem is that he old and there is no future with him. Not to mention that he always gets hurt. Fields at least offers the possibility of being a long-term answer although the odds of it are probably not great.

And he's back already - victim to the minute by minute coverage and clickbait era - when i was a kid it would have been a casual mention on the 6pm news as no big deal. We all love the news on demand era but sometimes this is the problem. Regardless - bullet seems to be dodged.

Despite this, I still think the best course of action is to jump to conclusions and panic when things like this happen.

And while there's no reason to panic, I thought it only prudent that we make preparations to panic

I quickly sold Russell Wilson to the Fields owner.

Remember the discipline of “Kremlinology” that existed before the fall of the Soviet Union? This minute-by-minute injury reporting reminds me of that.

Will McDonald looking great so far - reporters notices him using new moves - asked AG how that happened - he smile and goes "coaching" - man Im optimistic they finally have a competent HC and staff.

That's just the crows pecking at your neck as you fly higher....or something like that.

Fields is back 11 on 11. Live tackling today. Rosenblatt called it the most physical practice in years. Cimini said it has been football like it's meant to be played.

You gotta love AG. Actual fundamental drills and not just t-shirts and slogans.

You had AVT talking about how their has been no accountability from the prior coaching staffs until now. A lot of the players mentioning how different things are now and have everyone has bought in. Even AG mentioned the improvement in coaching (no humble pie for Glenn).

Hopefully this all results in wins, but you can't help believe that we will finally look like a real team after being such a joke year after year.

My favorite coach of all time was Parcells - you can see his influence all over AG and staff.

There is going to be a learning curve and far from being a contender from the start but from where they were last year - looking like a well prepared and coached team.

Little things like bringing in refs to work on penalties - down and dirty teaching technique - having players buy in - no leaks or drama - handling the media while not coming off like a jerk.

compared to last few modern Jet coaches:

Ulbrich - no offense to him and he may be a decent DC/position coach but he was so in over his head it may have been the worst coaching ive seen since Kotite

Saleh - could put together a solid D but way over his head - came off as more of a car salesman with cliches - ignored O - penalties galore and couldnt coach down stretch - constantly outmatched.

Gase - Just awful - trying to block this era out

Bowles - Knew his x/os but complete lack of personality and fire - as we've seen cant handle the O at all and only did well with Brady and expert OCs.

Rex - best since Parcells but obvious huge warts - sideshow drama - no interaction with O and hired awful OCs - awesome D tho

Mangini - another Parcells disciple and not coincidentally a real solid coach. Admits he acted like a jerk and made too many enemies.

Herm - too much of a players coach - another Def HC with no input into the O - complete lack of killer instinct in close games

I have no doubt that the prior regime was awful for various reasons. But I kinda wish the players would just kinda shut up about it.. I know that they're being asked questions, but they should be deflecting rather than explicitly throwing them under the bus.

Focus on the positive and moving forward, not taking shots at the fired coaches to cover up your crappy performance

They're (mainly saleh and ulbrich, who were good dudes) not able to defend themselves and the players lost those games too.

But feel free to crap on Hackett. That's fine.

Reminds me of the early practices here under Dan Campbell.

I get that, but for a lot of these players, they haven't known anything except gimmicks and bad coaching since joining the NFL. Lots of frustration with losing and realizing that they have been bamboozled with coaches that didn't put them in their best place to succeed.

Imagine players from other teams hating on coaches like Carter, but then then we hire them and force them to play for a dbag who couldn't coach. Or clueless coaches like Hackett who get hired for being the QB's buddy and whose film review was actually Hollywood films? Everyone knew the coaching staff was beyond a joke.

Now they are finally being coached and feel like they are part of a real team again that actually wants to cater to their strengths instead of forcing them to mesh into some terrible system that doesn't work. It's better if they don't talk, but they are excited and feeling confident. Ultimately, they will have to back it up with wins.

I know they're just silly rumors, but man would it be sweet if the Jets could somehow get McLaurin

Totally impractical with them just paying Garrett and not likely to be a contender,(the much more sensible choice is to just spend a high pick on a WR next year) but it would certainly would make things more interesting.

This is of course assuming that Fields is at least decent....which is probably 50/50 at best.

They have cap room and im sure Wash would prefer possible Jet draft position in 2026 vs most. That would be an amazing addition - ala Braylon Edwards or Santonio Holmes....im sure a long shot as I doubt they even trade him but thaty would be a perfect addition tot he O - id def trade a 2d....1st would be tough along with the monster deal it would take to sign him but def 2d and more

Pretty insane that the Jets have 30M in cap space with almost 70M in DEAD. Wish they could just roll most of Rodgers 2026 hit forward and eat it all this year.

Jets sign GW5 and Sauce without issues. Now other teams come off as dysfunctional the way they treat their stars. We're in the Twilight Zone.

What's the difference other than removing Rodgers's name from the dead cap list next year? The unused cap rolls forward. I guess it was smart to leave cap space if we needed it. You never know what opportunity pops up. If not, it gets added to next year's cap space.

Yikes, that's about 3 bad practices in a row for Fields and the offense. Olu getting sacked by Clemons is a little scary. We might have to run on every down. It's early and hopefully things come around, but....

This isn't because he's been bad the past few days. If we see any viable quarterback anywhere we should sign him. Sign seven of them. I don't care. Your job is to find one or you won't have a job. We don't need another defensive coach pacing the sidelines because his quarterback sucks. I don't want the whole, "let's hang on and hope our defense wins it." It hasn't happened since '02 or whenever that was. Had to be either '01 or '02. About twenty-five years. It's ****ty, awful football. Cot dam, Brick, get in grandpa's ear and let him know.

Signed,

Longsufferer

Considering the latest practice reports , I think every jets fan should be happy with how fields looked against the packers 1st team D. It was awesome to see him run for that TD. Hope we see a lot of that this season. I know it’s one series against a vanilla D in preseason but it’s better than looking out of sync. I think because of Fields elite athleticism we should try and be patient while he hopefully keeps developing as a passer.

I know it doesn't count, but I can't the remember the Jets looking this good in any game in recent memory. Hopefully a sign of things to come.

Some minor (or not so minor) things I liked about this game:

They look prepared for a change.

They seemed to tackle better.

Offensive scheme looked like a professional NFL scheme.

The o-line looked good. Kept the QB clean.

They ran the ball well, especially Allen. Donavan flashed.

A QB that is actually mobile.

They utilized the TEs.

On that play that Fields scored the rushing td, look at I. Davis faking the LB as if the ball was getting thrown to him in the End Zone which took the LB away from tackling Fields. An actual smart play from us? Previously unheard of.

A coach that didn't look comatose with "dead eyes". When Clemons took that penalty, whether it was Wilks or Glenn, they pulled Clemons. When McCrary-Ball had that undisciplined penalty, he was removed from the game and got a "talking to" from Glenn.

Good pass rush without needing to blitz.

Jay "Superstar" Tufele looked like a capable DT.

Arian Smith blew past cornerbacks. We will see a long td or 2 at some point this season.

I liked what I saw from Stone Smartt last year and he looked good on that td. Could come in handy this year.

Other things:

If Glenn is serious about cutting down the penalties, shoot Clemons into the sun. He's as dumb as it gets. That would mean adding a free agent DE or trading for one.

It's only one series, so could be just a limited sample, but for fantasy, it looks like they will utilize all three RBs. Not good for Breece. Fields likes using the middle of the field. Too bad Mason is losing valuable playing time due to injury. I would like to see him in this offense. I have a feeling they will rotate a lot of players at RB, WRs outside of Wilson, and at TE.

Agree with all Rage!

Its preseason of course but the seeds are there -

Coaching staff looked great - completely agree with not only solid coaching but the enthusiastic vibes - no confused glazed looks - and loved them actually pulling guys after dumb penalties!

O looked competent - OL looked very solid - Fields did what he needed to do - have a feeling Breece/BA is going to upset a lot of Breece owners...BA is gonna get time - loved the I Davis play - smart football has been rare here

Sauce looked so much more physical - he avoided contact last yr - here he was laying hits in a preseason game. Maybe its the security of the new deal but i think its mostly coaching.

Great start - but its preseason - just stay healthy and look competent. My optimism survives another week....

I'll give him credit for the effort, but he still looks like a little kid jumping on an adult's back and getting carried before the ball carrier goes down. But hey, that's still better than last year.
