Well, kept waiting for one of these to appear...Combine week is my limit. So, off my lazy #### and here's a start.

OK, this should get the discussion going. On my own speculation/hopes...

Edit 3/27/08: Polian extended. Good news, this guy has been money with his approach. Think I heard on the radio yesterday that his record thus far with the Colts is like 105-50... :money:

Some critical points of discussion:

1). Marvin Harrison

Personally I think he'll hang it up; and should. Marvin handled his injury extremely poorly by all accounts of folks I've spoken to. I really don't think his heart is in football, and it certainly was NOT last season. Perhaps that will be a wakeup to him and he'll come back as strong as ever. In my opinion, it'll be a wakeup to him alright. That it's time to hang it up. Time will tell.

2.) Clark

Well, that issue just got solved! Hoooowah!

3.) Dungy

I'm of two minds on this. I'm glad he's back as it all but assures that the Colts will win 12 games again this season. We'll almost assuredly win the AFC South - quickly becoming the undisputed best division in the NFL. On the other hand, I really think there's something to the fact that Dungy and his staff just do NOT know how to "peak" the performance of the Colts into the offseason. Yes, we were horribly riddled with injuries, but the gameplanning and level of play in the playoffs has been abismal in all seasons save the 2006 Playoffs. I'm just not sure a change would be such a horrible thing. If Manning and Moore are still around, this will almost always be a 10+ win team. BTW, Colts fans are spoiled.

4.) FA Market

Meh, we'll pick up 2 or 3 "bodies" late into the FA season, as per usual. What I'd really LOVE to see? I'd love to see Marv's $7.6 Million come off the cap (less what's left of his bonus; 3 years left) as he retires. Then I'd love to see the Colts continue to be aggresive with their draft picks; knowing that they will be late in the draft. Pony up next years 1st and maybe a 4th this year for Ocho Cinco. Persnoally I'm of the belief that Chad feels the pressure to generate some press and energy on that team in Cincinnati. The pressure would be completely removed paired up with Wayne, Manning throwing him the ball. I know, pipe dream.....oh well. Hell, I'd "settle" for trading for Javon Walker

Wait, we have picks. W/o that first rounder, the Colts have very little buzz/energy going into the draft. Honestly I think this draft stacks up pretty well for us. I'd guess we're looking at adding OL with the 2nd rounder, more depth at LB/DB with the 3rd - possibly 2 of them from supplemental picks. 4-7 rounds will see adding depth as well as getting another developmental WR, blocking TE, mabye take a shot at a QB (I'm dreaming here, as the staff seems to just love Sorgi...but I've always wanted them to have a guy backup Manning that maybe "could" win a game if he ever went down). I've still got some hopes for Roy Hall, he had some good contributions to ST late in the year. Hopefully Wayne can take him under his wing.

I think the DL depth is solid with the development of players as we lost Freeney, Mathis, McFarland to injuries last season. I'd think that depth for DL comes from FA, while depth for OL comes from the draft.

I don't think Dungy adds 2 wins to the Colts record. I'm not sure what he does for the Colts. I think bringing him back was 100% PR move on Irsay's part. Going into Lucas Oil Stadium with an unknown assistant does nothing to create a buzz.

I guess you'd have to hear what I've heard to understand. Huge fan of his. But I guess it just sorta rubs me the wrong way when players take the "it's just a paycheck" attitude. Edge had that mentality. Don't misunderstand....these guys are all time greats at their positions - Harrison and Edge - but there's something special about players like Manning, Rice, Favre, etc etc. Guys that both excel at the game and truly LOVE playing the game. Guys that you know will just die inside a little bit when they realize that they can't play anymore and have to hang them up.I sent some PM's during the season to some of the FBG staff about Harrison. I know no one like this, but through the "grapevine" I was informed that Harrison really handled this injury poorly. PM me if you want a better description. Anyway, I just really get the feeling that he's got other priorities. And they're probably the "right" ones; his family, not being a cripple. Sorry if I'm sounding very "down" on Harrison, I'm not really. No, I think he is that way. Sure, he may tone it down for a while, but I've seem him undress Carson Palmer coming off the field. He is a TO wannabe, and I think the Colts brass will pass. I hope so anyway!You've seen the extent of the Colts celebrations over the years, and now you think someone who has "excelled" at celebrating would be welcomed here? I don't.

I'd pay the same money for Housh and get no stupidity.

any thoughts on how freeney comes back with that lis franc injury? i think they have to look at getting some depth at DE in the draft. it was clear in the SD game that the lack of speed from the ends was too much to overcome, even against rivers.

he can run, but his pass catching is atrocious and his blocking isn't very good either. if they don't draft one, i expect they will pick one up before camp and at least have some competition for the spot.

K. Keith sucks too. He is a 1-trick pony.

I'd rather have Dom Rhodes back.

I'd guess they go OL, DE, DL, RB.

But with Polian, it's anyone's guess.

I think a high priced wr such as Chad Johnson or Javon Walker should be the last thing the Colts should look at.......if the Colts were going to use the off-season market at all it should be towards defense or decent #2 rb...even then the Colts will prolly use the draft instead of free agency or trading.

I think I read somewhere that all of the core players on last years team had never played a down for another team,and only 6 players on the whole team had ever played a down for another team (Vinateirri,Boiman,etc.) The Colts are strictly draft-based.

Is he debating retirement, definitely coming back, willing to renogotiate his cap $$? I'd also thought that the remaining overhead from Corey Simon was gonna come off the books this season? Is there still some residual cap loss from that pile of poo? I'll have to dig up the old articles.

It's just scary when he is out there blocking. And the pass has to be perfect eye level in front of him for a catch. But they won't spend major resources here too many options generally available at RB for backups.

You're quite welcome. As for Booger, I don't think it's that big of a loss. I actually liked the interior line rotation this season. I think the money is better spent at DE and reserve OT.

I think Simon is off the books now, but I stand to be corrected.

With the big question marks coming off of injury in Freeney and Harrison, I feel like this is where the Colts focus with the addition of the Off. Tackle position.

We'll see.

Actually, I think the schedule makers did the Colts some favors. I dislike the early bye, playing 13 games straight w/o a break after the bye....um, sucks.

But, as far as cold weather games; we could have had GB and/or Steelers much later. Nov 9 is late, but occasionaly still hanging onto decent weather and 50 degrees. Anyway, I like the primetime games, I like having lots of good offenses on the schedule (make sure our D is up to snuff by playoff time), and I like having the schedule close with Jax and Ten. Those 2 teams may be in hunt for the AFC South title and wildcard spots. I hate when the Colts go into "let's rest everyone" mode and aren't fully geared up for the playoffs.

This hard schedule might actually keep the Colts working throughout and limit them to 11-12 wins. Give me a hungry and pissed-off Colts team going into the playoffs and I'll show you another trip to the big game.

Some people will look and say taking 3 centers was stupid, but it sounds like they will all move to guard and then one of them (likely Pollak) will replace Saturday when he retires or prices himself out of the Colts' plans

Jacob Tamme is a perfect TE for the offense... a receiving threat downfield just like Clark

Don't know much about Wheeler, but I'll trust them on scouting the linebackers

Marcus Howard sounds perfect for the Colts as a Robert Mathis type player to provide a 3rd pass rusher behind Mathis and Freeney

The WR from Mount Union is explosive.. put up great numbers and should at the very least offer more big plays than Rushing as a returner

I'm very happy with the draft. I would've liked a RB picked higher, but Mike Hart could very well surprise. Most of the guys will contribute and feel a need, and unlike many years, I've actually heard of most of the players picked.

Don't they have Johnson, Brock, Pitcock and Dawson at DT? I know they aren't great, but for the system they run, rotating those guys will be solid. And Howard seems to fit the bill on the dline as another pass-rushing DE

As a Ky fan I was able to see a lot of Jacob Tamme. I'm telling you guys he is going to be very good. Tamme is a WR in a TE body. In fact, he was a WR with good speed and good hands. The Hart pick in the 6th was pretty damn good too.

Polian said the DTs they wanted were all taken before their round 3 pick. They got a couple of DLs in UFA to compete for spots. I really do like this draft overall - and I'm excited about the Howard pick and the Curtis Johnson UDFA pickup - two guys to help work on their biggest problem - getting a pass rush when Freeney and Mathis are on the bench.

I like Mike Hart. Watched almost every Michigan game in his career and one thing is for sure........he'll give you everything he's got.

If he has the talent, he will give it to you. I say he makes your team and becomes a real nice backup and overtime, if Joseph A. gets dinged for a game midseason, he'd be able to step up. He's an extremely loyal, hard working and intense player. I look forward to seeing him in a Colts uniform.

I'd say Wheeler will learn SAM and MLB. He basically replaces Boiman and Morris. I think Dawson will still be a DT until an UDFA DT makes the team.

Agreed with the basic sentiment here. Colts reloaded the interior line positions, and Mudd is pretty darn good at training these guys. From my own tape watching, I could see Justice actually moving outside later on, so we might actually get a RT out of this draft also.

Love the Hart pick. This guy will be great 3D back. I remember him having pretty good hands, but just got out of that role as it was a risk to his health and Michigan needed that guy to tote the rock as much as possible. I think he's gotta be stoked to be coming to Indy and teaming up with Peyton and Addai. My biggest concern is him in pass protection, and I think this guy will absolutely give every bit of himself to get the job done. He's an extremely talented runner and football player. Totally shocked he'd be available in the 6th round. LOTS of teams are going to regret not giving this guy a look.

Personally i don't like the Tamme pick, unless it means we can part ways with Fletcher. That's the exact same guy, save for Fletcher being more experienced in the offense. If Tamme can't pick things up quick, I won't be suprised to see him on the PS. I'm actually suprised that one of those 2 TE's weren't a full time blocking TE. Meh.

I like the Garcon pick as a returner...please, please, let that work out well. I'm sooo ready for the Colts to have a good return game for once.

Another solid draft! Hart was a steal and all I can say is goodbye Kenton (Hands of stone) Keith.

I'm still holding out hope for my guy Jayson Foster from Georgia Southern to be signed by the Colts as a returner/WR/do it all kind of player.

Big Colts and Michigan fan here. Regarding Hart, he should be a great fit in the Colts system and was incredible value for a 6th rounder. I watch about 90% of UM's games and I'd say that pass protection is actually one of Hart's strengths, along with ball protection and heart. I think he only had about 2 fumbles in his 4 years at Michigan. He's definitely not a RB1, but I see him being able to step right in and spell Addai.

Yes, I'm an RU homer, but I agree Colts fans will be pleasantly surprised by Foster. I really thought he'd be drafted, but this is a good situation. Maybe Brackett takes him under his wings.
