About Jeff Legwold

Jeff Legwold covers the Broncos for the Rocky Mountain News. He had been the Tennessee Titans/NFL reporter for the Nashville Tennesseean since the franchise announced its move from Houston to Nashville in 1995. Legwold also has been a sports columnist for the Rochester (N.Y.) Democrat and Chronicle, Gannett Newspapers in Pittsburgh, the Danville (Ill.) Commercial-News and the Saratogian of Saratoga Springs, N.Y. He is a 1985 graduate of the University of Illinois. Legwold has served on the Pro Football Hall of Fame Board of Selectors since 1999.

The interview will be live on Monday, but we can start posting questions for Jeff here.

He has MANY connections around the league, so feel free to ask him about any NFL team.

Status on Walker

The secondary - Darrent Williams to star again?

Engelberger, Lang, Dumervil - what gives?

Who's going to be WR3 in Denver this year ... Watts or possibly Brandon Marshall  ..... (Bloom like squeal)

If Plummer struggles at some point this year, what are the chances of Shanny bringing in Jay Cutler to start?
I'd ask just the opposite. What does he think the odds are Cutler will even be starting next season, and what are the odds he waits until 2008?

how does he think this team compares to past superbowl teams the broncos had? Does he too feel like the offense is possibly the worst since Shanny's been there?

Why is that? what have they done wrong or what positions have they failed to address that they should have?

are there more former Denver TEs in the NFL than TEs in Denver? Which are better? IE did they make the right moves?

Who is the poor talent evaluator when considerring Ron Dayne? Fassel or Shanahan?

How much will Mike Anderson be missed?

Will Champ catch any passes?

Feed back on Scheffler....will he play a roll similar to Putzier? Will he be a factor in the Red Zone?

Just to clarify - It is 3pm Mountain Time that Jeff will join us. The newsletter said 3pm Eastern Time.

Keep 'em coming!

What, specifically was Duke's injury? Did the club arrive at an injury settlement with him? Any chance he will get another shot to come back after rehab or is the experiment over?

Has there been any developements on the Ashley Lelie front? With the Bronco's having set the market for disgruntled receivers by acquiring J. Walker for a 2nd round pick, what are they asking for the disgruntled Lelie, a markedly lesser talent and value even taking into account Walker's injury?

Does Shanahan view Bell as injury prone? It seems the crushed finger was a freak injury his first year. It is not an injury that normally devalues a R.B. like a knee or an ankle so does he recognize it as a fluke or does he take that, along with the shoulder, as some indication of Bell's durability?

How long can the Bronco's keep their offensive line intact? With the exception of Foster the group seems to be aging at the same time, can we expect to see a youth movement, if so when, and will it be contract driven?

How is Carswell's rehab coming? Will he be able to contribute? Will he even make the team, or will age and the injury mean he will be a cut sometime in camp?

Where will the Receivers be lining up? Does he see this as Smith's final year?

How long before he see's John Lynch retiring?

What on earth did Shanhan see in Van Pelt that even remotely made him think he could run the team if he had to last year? After running two naked boots did he really have any plan for what Van pelt's third play might have been had he had to come into the game? Why not keep Mauck around as a develpmental guy?

Will Shanahan keep three Q.B.'s on the roster?

considering the first 4 picks in the draft were used in the passing game, do you see a shift in offensive philosophy, from a very run-dominant offense to a ballanced attack, similar to the SB years?

What are the latest rumors on lelie - trade offers, etc? What are the Broncos expecting? Any chance Lelie comes back for 2006? At this time last year, Pryce was shopping himself around and came back, so it may be possible.

How is the O-line holding up - Nalen and Lespis are getting older, how long until we see Eslinger?

can you please compare and contrast Mike Heimerdinger and Gary Kubiak.

Thanks

How serious were the Broncos in their pursuit of Ricky Williams (or any other rumored RB, for that matter -- Barlow, etc.)? Is Ron Dayne the team's 2nd choice to be their #1 RB? Could there be additional moves at this position between now and camp?

Since you've been reporting for Denver for a while, you're obviously familiar with Alex Gibbs' zone blocking scheming. With many other clubs supposedly incorporating these types of schemes (ATL, WASH, GB, HOU, NO), which of these (or other teams) have the coaching and personnel (OL and RB) in place to most quickly implement these schemes? And, which RBs do you subsequently see as being on the cusp of great years because of this.

BTW, some of those questions about the age of the O-line may be answered here:

It's Legwold's article from today's RMN about Greg Eslinger, last year's Outland trophy winner & Bronco 6th round draft pick, whom I thought was a superb pick by DEN and personally am very high on.

This topic is for posting questions only. It's not to answer Jeff's questions and dialogue about good draft picks. If you have a question, post it. If not move on.

Given that Legwold is on the HOF board of selectors, will Rod smith be HOF material by the time he retires?

The 1996-1998 Broncos hold the record for most victories in a 3 year span, won 2 SB's, and had a 2000 yard rusher. Are there any other HOF caliber players from those teams besides Elway and Sharpe?

Is Art Monk HOF worthy?

How is Tatum Bell looking from the offseason? Has he been doing any strengthening of his lower body to add more power/stamina?

Can we expect the same type of production from Edgerrin James now that he is in Arizona?

Can Chester Taylor be a successful feature RB?

Will the Steelers look to sign a veteran FA because of the injury to Big Ben?

How much longer will Jeff Fisher coach in Tenn?

Any chance Jason Campbell sees the field this year for the Redskins?

Do you expect Todd Devoe to be able to make the final roster there in Denver with all the WR additions?

Do you think KCs new defensive scheme, coaches, and the picks they made will improve the defense enough where a deep playoff run is possible?

Which player from the 2006 draft has the best potential to be an All-Pro?

Are the Broncos willing to go into preseason with oft-injured Stephen Alexander as their only experienced Tight End?

How is Javon Walker progressing? When do you expect him to be up to 100%?
