Are you just wealthy or FFA rich?

What method, in his opinion, is the best/most effective in regards to shamelessly pitching/hard selling oneself to potentially be a new addition to the writing team? For instance, who would be the best person to contact for this? Should one approach whomever is the best to approach with this entire situation with an article feature or series idea in mind? Or is several hundred thousand words of samples enough to show what they can do? Did I exceed the number of allowed questions yet? Because I certainly hope not!

Anyway, for the record, I'm asking these questions for a friend. He was too shy to come on here and ask them himself for some reason. His name's uhh... his name's Gary. Yeah, that's it. Gary. Just in case you wanted to... you know... know.
