Interviewing rules (1 Viewer)

I asked this in the Falcons thread, but it doesn't get a lot of traffic for some mysterious reason. :lmao:

Can Pats/Giants staff be interviewed this "bye" week before the Super Bowl? Obviously, I'm curious as to whether or not we can interview Spagnuolo. I'm sure he would decline/Giants would block as before, but maybe we could at least find out if he's ultimately interested in the job (as could the Redskins).

Depending upon the level of the candidate, a believe a team would need permission from the team that he is currently with to speak to him. If his team is still active, I would think the chances of him getting permission would be very slim.

In the case of the Falcons and their new GM Thomas Dimitroff. who was the Patriots Director of College Scouting, he did not fall within the rules of having to get permission to be interviewed. IIRC, on-the field coaches as well as GMs fall under the permission rule.

I believe I remember playoff coaches being allowed one interview, then being available for a 2nd and or hire after the pre-season is over.

If i recall correctly, there have been instances in the past (Patriots perhaps?) where one of the coaches went on an interview during these two weeks. For most teams they take a couple days off before getting into gear say Wednesday, so Tuesday could be a day where a coach could take a quick flight, interview, then return or something along those lines.

FYI, for those who were interested in the real answer, Pasquarelli answered the question:

League guidelines allow teams seeking a new coach to meet with assistants from the two Super Bowl teams in the week after the conference championship games, but only as a second interview. Since the Falcons did not conduct a first interview with Spagnuolo, he is off limits to the team this week, a league spokesman confirmed.
