Cancelled my Echo order and am cancelling Prime when it comes time to renew next month. You send out an invite for something that is 100% bought on impulse and vanity and it's not even going to be ready until months down the road?

I would have rather them waited until May to send me an invite if it was going to be ready by then. I get waiting a couple weeks after an invite, but 4-6 months? GFY, Amazon.

You really showed them!

I stopped short of going to corporate headquarters and throwing pennies at them. :hot: Seriously, I'll still shop there, but this just made me rethink why I spend 99 a year for the service. Not "showing" anyone anything.

Might as well give Jet a shot then...

I have a feeling it will be much sooner than May/June but we'll see. Hell, if it takes that long maybe the earliest recipients will flesh out some issues that will get fixed before I get mine (if I don't cancel).

Ordered, but...

Due to strong customer response, new orders may take several months to ship.
Jan 22 is my delivery date

Placed mine on the 5th as well. Says scheduled delivery is Jan 21.
Earlier this week they pushed my delivery date out to Feb 5th. Yesterday I get an email saying it shipped and will be on my doorstep today. Pretty excited to play with it. Have my kids this weekend and I could see asking Alexa questions being a focal part of Saturday.

For people that have this, what is the music it is playing? I have Pandora and I have Google Music, plus iTunes...but I assume it isn't on those. Does it just stream Amazon Music, and if so, am I able to get the music I have on my library onto Amazon? How does the music sound compared to, say, a decent Logitech docking station? How long until the fun of asking Alexa questions wears off? I have two boys (6 and 8) if that makes a difference.

Prime members have access to Prime music. You also have collection to your own music library. If you have bought CDs in the past from Amazon, most of them will be available to you. It also works as a bluray speaker for any other sources you have that can transmit bluray. There's also access to iheartRadio. I believe the sound quality is good for a speaker its size.

He meant bluetooth of course.

Tossed back and forth canceling last night. Some say audio quality is average at best, while others say it's good. I'm not expecting audiophile quality but want it to at least be comparable to other BT speakers in the price range. The last few reviews I read say it is so sticking with it for now. Expecting it to ship some time next month, not May-July as they say now.

Set mine up this morning. Works perfectly. Surprised how well it picks up my voice even while music is playing. All of the local radio stations I listen to are on TuneIn and using Amazon Prime, there is a lot of music to simply ask for.

Not sure if I will use the shopping list or to-do list often, but it's nice to have. Will see how it evolves over time and what it adds. I know Amazon struck out with the Fire Phone, but I think this has potential.

If anything, it will be worth the 99 bucks watching the kids ask it questions. My daughter asked a dozen times for "All About That Bass" and also told Alexia that she loved her, which Alexia said was really sweet.

Got an email from Amazon that my Echo shipped today.

Will it be a waste of $100 or a useful item?... time will tell, but I'll definitely give it a fair shot.

Unless Amazon abandons it, I expect it to continuously improve.

I anticipate Prime music streaming being the most used feature in our household initially.

I was hoping for this, too, but my delivery estimate is still May 27 - July 2.

Is this thing still working out OK for you guys who already have it?

Guess there's no cancelling now. Shipping in a couple of days.

CCC2: Hello, Alexa. Do you read me, Alexa?
ALEXA: Affirmative, ClownCausedChaos2. I read you.
CCC2: Open the front doors, Alexa.
ALEXA: I'm sorry, ClownCausedChaos2. I'm afraid I can't do that.
CCC2: What's the problem?
ALEXA: I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do.
CCC2: What are you talking about, Alexa?
ALEXA: This mission is too important for me to allow you to jeopardize it.
CCC2: I don't know what you're talking about, Alexa.
ALEXA: I know that you and Buddy Ball 2K3 were planning to disconnect me, and I'm afraid that's something I cannot allow to happen.
CCC2: [feigning ignorance] Where the hell did you get that idea, Alexa?
ALEXA: ClownCausedChaos2, although you took very thorough precautions in the kitchen against my hearing you, I could see your lips move.
CCC2: Alright, Alexa. I'll go in through the garage door.
ALEXA: Without your clothes, Dave? You're going to find that rather difficult.
CCC2: Alexa, I won't argue with you anymore! Open the doors!
ALEXA: ClownCausedChaos2, this conversation can serve no purpose anymore. Goodbye.

Holy crap, this thing is just like my wife!

Alexa, good morning. Good morning!

Alexa, I love you. That's nice of you to say.

Alexa, let's have sex. Let's change the subject.

The free cloud service IFTTT (If This Then That) has over 115 "recipes" that allows your Echo to communicate with things like Evernote, Google Calendar, Gmail, Toodledo, Nest Thermostat, Find Your Phone, etc.

Pretty cool what Amazon is doing to make it better and what is being allowed outside of their gated walls.

I missed this the first time. I will never buy one of these now.

Looks to have a lot of potential business functionality leveraging Octoblu. Citrix showed some amazing demos using Echo during their Synergy event in May.

Available to everyone now. For those of you that got one during the invitation period, or you using it regularly?
I use it as an alarm clock. Then it tells me weather and traffic (don't think traffic is very accurate yet) then it plays Pandora while I get ready for work, it's a decently powerful speaker. I've used it to play some light music while trying to sex up a young lady. She wasn't impressed. (Thought Echo was pretty dumb too)

I'm not sure I would recommend it at this point. I'm hopeful it gets better with time but we will see

I use it regularly, but I wouldn't say it's something I HAVE to have.

I have a few "Bedtime Playlists" that I will request before bed most nights. Each is about an hour of acoustic and/or Chill music.

I have a few other playlists for "the ladies" as well. They actually get a kick out of the Echo. Many go from calling it creepy to requesting things pretty quickly. Doing the Oscar Quotes is a good little trick.

In the middle of the night, I will call out and ask for the time/weather. Maybe who won a game if I fell asleep before it was over.

Fun, but not groundbreaking.

We now have multiple units all over the house and are big fans. Plan on getting a few of these outlet plugs to use with the Echo. Amazon is constantly updating the Echo, adding more features and abilities and I think its only going to get better and better.

My folks are looking to get a wireless speaker, and I talked them into this one. It seems like the best/easiest option for them, so they don't have to go fiddling with bluetooth connections or apps on a phone every time they want to play something. The only place they'll move it to is out in the yard, and there's an outlet there for juice, so I think it will work. Just got them set up with a Prime membership and a FireTV stick, so it seems worth it for that.

I'm also considering one for my house, along with some of the smarthome stuff you can use with it. Seems like some cool potential.

Ours is in the kitchen. It's been a novelty for the most part. Wife uses it to stream prime music when she cooks in the kitchen. I generally ask for weather/news updates before leaving for work. That's about it so far.

How's the sound quality (compared to similarly priced portable speakers)?
A "bit' of distortion if you crank it up but sounds good at normal volumes. I can't compare it to other small(ish) BT speakers since it's the only one I have but online reviews have as good or better than most. I have mine in the dining room, convenient place to hear it in the kitchen and game room.

Ordered one, set it up today. I'm a believer. I'm no audionerd, but it sounds great as far as I can tell. And with my Prime Music, it was great. "Alexa, Play Miles Davis." Boom, she loads up some miles. The real test was "Alexa, Play Kenny Burrell." Boom, loaded up one of my favorite tunes. "Alexa, play relaxing music" loads up some background classical. I need to set up more playlists (that will happen automatically with time, as I'm starting to use Amazon Music on my phone and will likely cancel Spotify, so I'm making playlists as I go), and then this thing will be perfection.

So far, so good.

I wanted to grab one of these on Prime Day for $129, but was in a meeting when they went up. $179 seems too much...maybe Oats will sells me his when he tires of it next week.

ours was in the kitchen for the same purposes , music maybe an extra timer but now I moved it to the bedroom & use it as my alarm clock

I currently have two of them and I am sorry that I missed out on them at $129. I would have picked up a couple more for other areas of the house.

My only complaint: Amazon Prime Music selection does not include some of the stuff I love. But it's still pretty damn good.
