iPad

Finally got to open my box. It took a while to update all my apps on my laptop so i didnt get to play with it too too much.

However, this thing is gorgeous. Even the weather channel app looks amazing.

Any app must haves? I grabbed some of those new optimized ones, zite, netflix hbogo etc. whatelse?

Also, i notice that the ac adapter differs from the iphone's. Can you not recharge the ipad and iphone on the same charger?
The ipad charger is a higher voltage.
cough...higher current
But it will still charge it, just slower, correct?
Yes. It is a giant battery. As an..ahem..eductated person about this cell I would strongly advise if you are going to use the smaller charger to charge to 100% with it every single time. Bad behavior would be to use phone charger go go from 20-60% then down to 40% then up to 100% on the big charger. This will make your battery gauge treat you with great suspicion. On a battery this size you could be looking at substantial (artificial) drops in capacity.
Good info here. Thanks. The iPad is a little heavier than I was expecting, but not a problem. I need to start going back to the gym anyway.

One thing I noticed, and this may be as simple as changing a setting but: when I delete an email message on the iPad in hotmail, it also ends up being in the deleted folder when I open hotmail on my PC. However, when I delete an email on my iPhone, the message remains unread and in the inbox on my PC. I think I prefer it still being unread.
Settings - Mail (select your account) - Advanced - Mailbox behaviors - Deleted Mailbox

Anyone sell their old iPad 2s and for how much?
Just search ebay to see what they are selling for. They seem to be selling in the 325-375 ranged used. Hell, one with a completely cracked screen sold for 295.Here is a sample search for the 16gb wifi Ipad 2 so you can see what price sells and what does not.http://www.ebay.com/csc/i.html?rt=nc&LH_Complete=1&LH_PrefLoc=1&_nkw=ipad%202%2016gb%20wifi&_dmpt=US_Tablets&_fln=1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m283

My iPad charged connected to my MBP.
It also charges using my iPhone charger. Probably slower, but I just tested it and took it from 94% back up to 100%.
It charges - but much slower then if you are using the adapter.
Alternatively, can you charge your iPhone using the iPad adapter, or will it fry?
Current is controlled on the device. Don't worry about it. If it doesn't like the connector it will not charge at all. Some of this is software controlled, but there are certainly hardware protections in place.

Yep - I use an ipad adapter to charge an ipad and an ipod.

Good question - I use one charger to charge both (I think it is the iPad charger, but I have not checked to see what is actually plugged into the wall. I usually charge the iPad overnight when it needs a charge, so I don't know if I would see how quickly/slowly it is charging.

wow that seems high, I must be out of touch, can't you buy a brand new one for 400?

You can get a 16GB refurb from Apple with a full one year warranty for $349.Some people are dumb.

Yes but this is why buying and selling on eBay is so good. There are always great deals and always someone willing to spend more than they should.

I half jokingly emailed my wife - we should have ordered and iPad for our trip.

She basically says, that might be a good idea, you want to run out and pick one up :lmao:

How is the retina screen when viewing it outside?
Bump.Has anyone carry their retina display iPad outside to see how easy the screen is to view?
Just for you, I went outside.Certainly not as good an experience as inside, but definitely viewable. It's a glass display, so of course there is glare, and it would be a good idea to wipe off all of the fingerprints before you take it out, as they are much more obvious outside. But I certainly wouldn't say that it can't be used outside. And it's a relatively sunny day here.

Thanks!I should have mentioned I have an iPad 2 so I am familiar in general how it looks outside and was wondering if there were any improvements.

So on my iPad, my instant queue is missing all of the tv series I have on there. Weird. I haven't edited my queue in a long time. Any body else having this issue?

for netflix?no problems here.
Yea. None of my tv series are in my instant queue. On my iPhone they are there, however when I click on them the "add to instant" button is there instead of the "in instant queue" icon. But when I click the "add to instant" button I am getting an error that it's already in instant. I'm in some damn paradox wormhole.

The guy never got back to me that was going to sell me the MacBook Air 11". What a #####y thing to do as I was amped up to get it and get it to my liking. So, I am still here without an iPad 2 or Air. Still scouring the net for an Air but might have to wait a bit to get one.

The other option is to buy an iPad 2 and buy a case and keyboard but that package is about $500. If I could buy an Air for $600, I'm not sure which would be a better deal overall for the purposes intended.

What are the "purposes intended"? Not sure why you're so hung up on the keyboard issue, but it makes me think that maybe an iPad isn't the right device for you.

:goodposting: I have never seen the lack of a physical keyboard as an impediment to enjoying the iPad. But, I also use the iPad primarily for content consumption, rather than creation. I would not use the iPad as a work computer, where I was creating documents/spreadsheets all day long.

I'm in the middle of content/creation. And, I'm not sure if I'm 60/40 either way more or less. I would prefer the ability to do both comfortably, I guess.

Cracked open my Ipad last night. Bought the 64G.

I've used an Iphone for a long, long time but never had an Ipad. Such a neat experience.

Beautiful screen, and the apps look awesome.

Lets face it, this is a non-gaming entertainment device. As Sinn Fein said, it's for content CONSUMPTION.

Reading books, surfing web, watching movies, travel...those are the big things this will be used for.

I can't imagine how I would use this for work, but I have a laptop that is plenty good for that anyway.

I'm excited to see future Ipad apps. The weather channel app for IPAD was unbelievable. I can't wait for a thunderstorm just so I can track the radar on that amazing radar screen. :bag:

The camera is a bit awkward. I can't see many scenarios where I use the camera, unless my kids are around and doing something cute while I happen to be on the Ipad. But I think 99% of the time, I'll be transporting Iphone photos to the Ipad.

Flipshare app that some recommended was pretty cool.

The iPad has replaced my laptop when I travel. With DropBox, IR Desktop (for Remote Desktop Connections), TeamViewer (which allows me to access my laptop remotely) and goToMeeting, it does a lot of what I need to do. Especially on short trips.

ok Ipad nerds, help me out.

What is the best way to transfer photos from iPhone to Ipad. I have found a few ways, but I'd be interested in hearing from you guys about the easiest possible way.

iCloud with something called Photostream? I know nothing about how to do it but that was my assumption when I was reading about it.

Turn ON Photo Stream on both devices (Settings/iCloud/Photo Stream). Take photo on iPhone, pic is instantly on iPad. And vice versa.

All of them, or can you select which ones?Nobody else is having that netflix issue? It would't let me login later last night at all.

Anybody ever buy from Powermax.com?
Just wondering if these two deals would be better to buy than to wait for one to show up on craigslist again.http://www.powermax.com/parts/show/c-nma-mc506ll__a-ob = $819.00+tax open box MacBook Air 11", more storage, possibly great warranty, 2010 model.http://www.powermax.com/parts/show/c-umc505ll__a = $719.00+tax used basic model, 2010 model. There is another one that has 4gb ram (only real upgrade) in the 2010 model that is $779.00+tax (2 gb of ram for ~$60).Any 2011 model is going to be $839.00+tax.

Photos only stay on the photo stream for 30 days, so if you want them permanently there you'll have to move them via itunes.

I have photos that are way older than 30 days on Photo Stream. Anyway, you can move them directly on the device; within Photo Stream click on the pic, then click the Share button (square with an arrow coming out) and there is a 'Save To Camera Roll' option. Clicking this will save the photo locally on the iPad or iPhone.

iPad 4 is coming in two years. Now THAT one will be awesome.
what makes you think 2 years?Hasn't the release schedule so far been every 12 months or so?I am only asking because I am debating whether to wait for the Ipad4 or upgrade my ipad 2 now. If the ipad 4 was really 2 years out, that might change my thoughts.
