IR Rules - Clarification (1 Viewer)

My dynasty league allows for 2 IR spots when players are actually on IR but no other time.

Someone just picked up Hardesty and Ben Tate from the FA pool and slipped them onto their IR giving them an 18 man roster instead of 16. The IR is intended for players who go on IR that you own to give some allowance for injuries. We keep 2-7 players a season so these guys might not even be kept next year. They are essentially stashing players on IR to increase their available pool of players to protect for next year.

Do you guys think this should be allowed? We don't have any specific rules governing our IR List other than the 2 spots.

The bolded says it all. Our rule book says that a player has to be active in an NFL game and on your roster for 1 week before he can go to IR.

Thanks, I think I will recommend that rule but not retroactive. Any other ideas?

Easy rule in our league, If a guy is inactive and does not play a snap, he is eligible for the IR slot. Once he comes back and plays, he would then need to come off the IR after that Sunday game. Plays Sunday = no IR slot, Doesn't play Sunday = IR slot OK.

I don't even think that's a loophole. That's how IR normally works unless you wish to set it up differently.

If a league only wants players already on your roster to be eligible for the spot, no problem, word your rules that way.

But to me that is an exception to how IR normally works that you say explicitly, not the norm. I don't think anyone should get upset when they see someone picking up a player to fill an IR slot. Doing so is just good use of your roster space.

You need to define a rule stating what injury status categories are eligible for your league's IR. Mine says "Doubtful" or "Out" is eligible to be IR'd.

We also have a minimum of 3-week stints on the IR, to prevent this kind of temporary stashing.

If your league does not have anything defined for IR eligibility, take advantage of it yourself.

To many rules just play the game and stop whinning when other people think of something to better their team withen the rules that already exist.
