IRS Apologizes For Targeting Conservative Political Groups In 2012 Ele (1 Viewer)

“But poor management is not a crime,” Kadzik wrote. “We found no evidence that any IRS official acted on political, discriminatory, corrupt, or other inappropriate motives that would support a criminal prosecution.”

“We also found no evidence that any official involved in the handling of tax-exempt applications or IRS leadership attempted to obstruct justice,” Kadzik said.
During Lerner's time at her position at the IRS exactly one of these conservative groups got their status. One. It is fairly evident the SOP here was to keep adding to the blizzard of paperwork these places needed to fill out - infinite hoops.

Keep the faith!

Obviously this one has slipped past and nothing more will come of it. But to think this wasn't a deliberate bureaucratic snow job is pretty silly.

The entire rise of the Alt-Right movement can be contributed to the IRS not being allowed to investigate these groups.
This has existed for about a month.  Not sure who coined that, but they need to be flogged.  Such a stupid label.

So it looks like these groups, despite all protestations, were admittedly targeted due to political affiliation.  One of those cases where these FOIA lawsuits really works.

It's about time - this was an obvious conclusion from the start and it's good to finally see internal corroboration (in the form of incriminating emails that are directly on point).

Is there a link somewhere to the actual email quoted in the article?  I’m not doubting it exists it’s just hard to understand the context without seeing the full email and what it was responding to.

That's what was reported.  I did see another article that recompense is upcoming for these orgs for suffering through the IRS political targeting that they did.

Executive branch abuse is very scary, and very real. I watched the EPA literally deleting things from their website when I worked in D.C. You really needed screen caps to prove it. We'd print stuff out just to have it on record.

It was about reducing carbon emissions of lawnmowers, but I remember how quickly it disappeared to this day. I don't trust executive power. I'm with Bannon on this.

Kind of weird seeing this bumped on the day it is announced that the Assistant Secretary of Tax Policy will add Acting IRS Commissioner to his duties when Koskinen's term ends, as the controversy was caused by the purported interjection of politics into the IRS.  Nothing against the guy named (he's got a good reputation), but he will now be wearing both hats at once:  policy side at Treasury, and administration side at IRS.

(That's putting aside that both are full-time jobs.)

Nothingburger.

An apology from the DoJ under Jeff "Reefer Madness" Sessions? Laughable already but also giving them a "generous" settlement too? Ridiculous.

No, this was big news and an admission at the time it happened. Obama even apologized for it, IIRC.
