Is Cam Newton a Buy Low? (1 Viewer)

Mr. Mojo

Footballguy
I haven't watched a full Panther game all year and see that he is struggling compared to 2011. However his upside makes him a tempting QB to trade for in my league where rushing TDs are extra valuable.

I appreciate any insight from the folks that have watched him this year. I saw he fumbled on a big hit at the 1 yesterday, but then the Bears have a top defense.

Thoughts?

Swapped Fitzgerald and Cutler for him Saturday. Not a great game by any means, but 317 passing yards vs. the Bears makes me optimistic, with matchups against WAS, TB, KC, SD, OAK and NO ahead.

I think he might be the best buy low in fantasy football rt now. Everyone is so down on him. His schedule is about to open up. He is very talented.

Buy now before the Washington game. I said this in the other cam thread.

I like his schedule and might hold. Any Cam owner with half a brain though is gonna wait until after skins game to move him.

Count me as one of the owners without half a brain. I traded the bum last week.

I meant this week. Foregoing the impending Bears disaster was very full brained of you.

While buy low appeal does exist here, Cam aside from the first 4 games of his career, has simply not been all that prolific through the air. Doesn't throw for many TD's. Absent his prolific rushing TD totals from last year, and you've got an average player.

When you also take into account that there is a decent possibility that the coaching staff will reach lame duck status, coupled with Cam's inability so far to this point in his career to deal with adversity or such a situation...I tend to think that he won't be recapturing any 2011 magic on a consistent basis. Could actually see a mailed in December.

While I don't agree at all that he's an average player, I do agree with your assessment about the remainder of the year. New GM's like to hire their own coaches. Hopefully, whomever gets the reigns on this team for 2013 will also be able to give Newton a better chance to succeed. Its easy to forget that Aaron Rodgers was awful in his rookie year. (preseason action). He was immature as well. There's about zero chance he would have put up numbers anything like Newton did last year. But he got some quality coaching from McCarthy and Philben, grew up a lot, and now he's the reigning MVP. (One of the reason's that there's a lot to like about Tannehill. Philben is a very good quarterback guy).Newton is 23 years old, and has the physical tools to dominate at the NFL level. The work ethic is also there. Its the mental side of the game where Newton is lacking right now. Get in a quality offensive minded HC and OC, and Newton will be one of the very best players in the league IMO. It probably wouldn't hurt to get him a top notch WR1 either. Smitty isn't getting any younger. So yeah, dynasty buy low. Redraft not so much.

finally - a thread about Cam!
you just gave someone a hard time about providing nothing in the brees thread and here you are doing the same thing. thanks for all of your positive contributions.
This board needs policing, some of the mocking is what keeps people from posting crap. I am sure one of the other 45 Cam threads could of helped. No one really cares if you are trying to trade for him. Do you care who I'm trading for?

Another useless post.

Eyeballing Cam's stats from this year to last, it's basically the TDs that are "missing" (rushing/passing). If some second half uptick were coming, that's where it would need to reside I think but I just don't see a miraculous lift in those two stat categories...

5 previous games NY ATL SEA DAL CHI (QB12 in FFPG)

remaining games WAS DEN TB PHIL KC ATL SD OAK NO
