Appetite for Destruction debuted at number 182 on the Billboard 200 in the week of August 29, 1987. It did not top the chart until August 6, 1988, after the band had toured and received radio and music video airplay with singles such as "Welcome to the Jungle" and "Paradise City".
Nevermind is the second
studio album by American
rock band
Nirvana, released on September 24, 1991 by
DGC Records. Produced by
Butch Vig,
Nevermind was the band's first release on DGC. It was also their first album to feature drummer
Dave Grohl.
Despite low commercial expectations by the band and its
record label,
Nevermind became a surprise success in late 1991, largely due to the popularity of its first single, "
Smells Like Teen Spirit". By January 1992, it had replaced
Michael Jackson's album
Dangerous at number one on the
US Billboard 200 chart.
so Nevermind wasn't really an instant success.
I will agree that GnR really didn't spawn a movement. Don't remember too many followers. To me the were a culmination of what VH, Crue, Aerosmith, etc did. They were the end game.
Nirvana changed the music world.
