Is It Unethical For The Commish To Ask A Team To 2nd Guess A Proposed Trade?

This came up because the assistant commish in one of my leagues asked me to do that. He felt like I was going to make a contender too strong, and that contender, coincidentally enough, was the AC's biggest rival. He had actually done this several times with proposed deals between me and that team, some went through, but sometimes the deal fell apart after I looked at it again.

What do you think? Is this ethical? Is it fair game for the Commish and/or AC to do this?

You need to flesh this out a little?  Are you saying the assistant commish used his access powers to see an offer you made to another team?

My bad, I was trying to make it short. But sometimes I THINK that happened, but I'm not 100% sure. I think the Commish may have done that too.

I will also say that sometimes, I have asked him to help me out. I'm not asking about those trades though, because I voluntarily sought his assistance.

Just asked him to take a look at some trades to see if it was fair. That was before I started to put more confidence into trade trackers, PFF rankings, and such.

So let me get this straight:

You asked him to take a look at some trades to see if they were fair

He gave you an opinion that it made your trade partner too strong

So now you want to take a vote on if this is unethical behavior by him?

I guess. My issue is that the Commish and AC are possibly undermining the integrity of the league by not processing trades right away.
Change settings to automatically process trades.

Sounds like you’re guilty of the same thing you’re asking advice on.

I think you, the commish and asst. commish should probably leave the league. Let the rest of the normal people enjoy a dynasty league.

One of my leagues, we have this problem with the commish, and one other owner. They both get butt hurt over every trade because “so and so got ripped off!” Or “so and so is making buddy’s team unbeatable”

its gross. And it all boils down to a couple weirdos that just can’t handle competition the right way.

They want EVERY trade to go through “them”

its the typical doooooosh that always sends you a text after a trade saying “I would’ve given you more”

GTFO

Who has an assistant commish? Is this an office league, and do you work at Dunder Mifflen?

If the commish or the assistant to the commish are using their powers and trying to manipulate trades with no transparency then once again the answer is to leave the league.

If you are asking people in your league if what you should do with your team you should find a new hobby. That may seem harsh, but wtf?

That's actually not what he said. He even pointed out that "I will also say that sometimes, I have asked him to help me out. I'm not asking about those trades though, because I voluntarily sought his assistance." So he is obviously referring to unsolicited advice here. Apparently there is an axe to grind against this guy and that's fine. But making up narrative is just an annoying feature of this board at times.

I wasnt makin up a narrative. I was asking him to clarify.

If you've been around here you know what this guy's schtick is... this is par for the course. I was asking him to clarify because he often talks himself into circles and no one can make sense of his question

If you don’t know who the OP is and why he generates the reaction he does, then you must not stop in here much.  That makes it interesting that you see yourself in a position that you’re passing judgment on others.

I wasn't passing judgement. I was reading what was written, and pointing out the the fact of what he said versus what the response asserted. But no, I don't know the OP from the man in the moon. If he doesn't post in the Skins or Browns threads, then I'm unlikely to read his stuff.

Yep, you got me. I'm an alias. My history of responses in his threads, which now likely totals one, is a dead giveaway. You got me/him/us. Surprised I even remembered to change log-ins before posting.

IMO, the commish or AC shouldn't get involved unless collusion is obvious.  A lop-sided deal is still a deal.  However, if someone asks them for advice AS AN OWNER, no problem, inasmuch as they also wear that hat.

I'm stunned at the results here.  IMO that's part of the commishes' job.  I'm not saying to scrutinize every trade but if it's a lopsided trade the commish should at least ask both parties their thought process behind the deal.  Almost impossible to prove collusion but you can't prove it if the commish doesn't at least ask a question or two.

This one time I had a trade offer and i was just like "nah", but then i was like "well maybe". After a while i was like "aight".

After I was like "aight", I was like "im not sure anymore, what even is real?". So, I made a thread. The rest of the humans were like "meh".

So here i am like "meh".

He asked "Is It Unethical For The Commish To Ask A Team To 2nd Guess A Proposed Trade?"

Commissioners have no business reviewing PROPOSED TRADES for collusion.  They should only do that with accepted trades. Commissioners have no business looking at proposed trades under most circumstances.  Being able to see proposed trades gives them an advantage over the rest of the league. So they should not be looking at them without a legitimate reason. Let alone lobbying the owner to decide a certain way as is implied by "2nd Guess".

An example of a valid exception on viewing the proposal might be an owner that is part of the trade asking the commish to confirm the trade doesn't violate other rules (salary cap, keeper leagues, etc) that the website's trade proposal doesn't enforce on its own.  Even then they should be answering the rules question, not lobbying the owner to react a certain way.

I can see where this might be a result of vetoing unbalanced trades (something I disdain).

I think there may be times where its appropriate, like if one of the owners is new to dynasty and/or fantasy football. But in that case, I think the best thing to do is to give that person a trade calculator or some sort of valuation system.
