Is Keenan McCardell all done? (1 Viewer)

Thumper

Is this guy washed up? Or is it simply the P.Rivers factor?

I thought he was going to be the #1 in SD. But thus far he has been nothing more than an afterthought. As a matter of fact he has been the #3 man for the Chargers this year.

Can he turn it around this year? What do you think he will do vs the 49ers tomorrow?

I'm starting him over Bryant Johnson so I'm hoping for a decent game from him. I anticipate 80 yards and a touchdown understanding that is probably high expectations. Who knows, this could be his week to break out, afterall, he is facing the 49ers DB's. There are definitely worse options out there as a #3 WR this week.

I drafted him late & thought he'd be an OK bye week replacement. I dropped him after week 2.

McCardell has very little fantasy value this year. He got old fast, plays ona conservative team, and has too much young competition. If you have to start him, your team better be in dire straits.

Gates is gonna be the main man against the 49ers. Of course I am starting Gates. But, that has nothing to do with my prediction.

He does?Currently #6 in total offensive yards (average per game).

Was #10 in 2005.

If being in the top 10 is conservative, I'd hate to see some of the other teams. ;)
Umm, he's probably talking about conservative as in the passing game. 174 yds/game. Pretty damn conservative if you ask me.The only reason they are #6 is beacuse they are averaging 176 yds/game rushing. Thats right, they are rushing for more yards than passing.

If that is not conservative, well, I dont know what is.

I regretably picked him up off waiver after he was cut after week one and I tought he could help me as my 3rd/4th WR. The problem he has is not just the fact the Charger run often and are conservative but that Gates, Floyd and Vincent Jackson get all the red zone looks. About the only way I can see him having a big game is if the Chargers trail early or he makes a long TD catch and given his age I'm not real positive on that.

He's got 11 touches, which is 2 less than Gates and 1 less than Eric Parker.

The Chargers just don't pass as much as they did last year.

182 yards passing with just 12 minutes left in the 2nd quarter. They weren't passing early on because they didn't have to. When you are up by 20 points on bad teams.. you run out the clock.

Whats your point? So, if they throw for 182 yards in the first quarter, then run every down from here on out, does that not make them a "conservative" offense?Fantasy wise, of course it does.

My point is that all run first offenses are not necessarily conservative. Some might even call it an aggresive offense to do so.To flip the cards, was Mike Martz' offense in STL conservative because they didn't run the ball much?Running does not mean conservative and passing does not mean aggressive. The Chargers have 156 rush attempts compared to 107 pass attempts. That = rush 59%, Pass 41% in 4 games. So far in today's game (9 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter), 28 passes (61%), 18 rushes (39%) The end of the game will have more running involved because they (yet again) have a big lead.Yes, they will try to "conserve" the win, but that does not mean it's a conservative offense.

They have the most rushing attempts per game. 39.They have the third lowest passing attempts per game. 26.8.I dont know what you are trying to get at.They are a great running team. They are a decent passign team because their running game is so good.In general terms, a "conservative" offense is one who rushes the ball alot more than they pass the ball. San Diego does this to more of an extreme than any team out there.

So, to get back on point, McCardell has quite a few things going against him.

1. he's almost 37 years old.

2. his team runs the ball effectively, and often.

3. his team is often winning which only compounds the amounts of rushes per game.

Thru 5 weeks:

146 pass attempts = 44%

186 rush attempts = 56%

With 3 big leads, the rush attemps include running out the clock and kneel downs to end the game.

Conservative or not?

McCardell = an option for WR3 duties this year. Just like you drafted him.

Dynasty league owners already know the answer. A throw-in player or stuck with him to the end.

He's barely a WR4 so far and that's probably being generous. If you drafted McCardell as your WR3 chances are he's been a major disappointment - assuming he's still on your roster. This was the first game of the season where he registered a pulse for the most part and he still wasn't the most productive WR on his team.I continue to say that if you want a San Diego WR on your team this season the WR to have is Eric Parker. He's not a consistent WR3 week in and week out but he's been the top target in recent weeks and he's on a very nice roll in terms of production. The downside with Parker is he isn't going to score many TDs but he's good for decent to strong yardage when the matchup is right and in a PPR league he's even more valuable.

Gates = a playmaker

McCardell = good option for PPR leagues, mediocre for yardage, not good for TDs.

Parker = good #2 WR for NFL reasons, may put up decent points in PPR leagues.

Jackson = still raw, but is wanted to fill McCardell's shoes next year. A good game every 4-5 weeks. Not worth it yet.

Floyd = tall redzone target + gets looks for a deep ball when the Chargers are at mid-field. Not alot of looks otherwise.

Tomlinson = safety valve and the focus of the offense.

Turner, Neal, and Manumaleuna get a few passes thrown their way as well.

Rivers may spread the ball around too much for the WRs to be relied on for fantasy reasons.
