Is Reggie Bush being keyed on to the point of lessening value? (1 Viewer)

I'm getting the feeling that teams are going to game plan against New Orleans with Reggie Bush as the primary target. If NO is going to win, they will do it without Bush going off. He will have defensive players trailing him like flies on ... you know.

This is great for other FF players -- McCallister or Colston, for instance -- but it seems to make Bush a less than stellar option in non-PPR leagues.

Am I overreacting here? Or is it possible that most teams will focus on shutting him down to the point that they're relatively successful and he has a rather mundane rookie year?

I ask because I see him ranked above non-RBBC situations like Thomas Jones and DeShaun on the weekly cheatsheet, yet feel like I'd start either one of these guys over Bush this week against Atlanta. I have this feeling that Vick is going to put on a running show while Bush gets stuffed all day.

I don't think it's a great matchup against Atlanta, but I like Bush going foward becuase he will be relied on even when the Saints are down. I think Green bay will the last team they are two tds up on. I think Brees/Deuce/Horn/Colston is enough to keep defenses honest. I would rather have Jones then Bush but Bush is much better then Foster at this point.

I think it will eventually balance out.

If the others players are being productive because they are targeting Bush, Defs are going to have to adjust a bit.

Again, potentially a monster in PPR leagues, pretty average elsewhere for now.

8 receptions a week in INCREDIBLE. He hasn't scored yet, hasn't broken a big play, and hasn't run much, and he's already a solid RB2.

However, the non-PPR leagues need to worry about the next few weeks. The schedule is pretty brutal.

I just traded S.Smith to get him.(redraft non-ppr) Hate his schedule but he is a homerun threat everytime he touches the ball. Won't be top ten but great shot at top fifteen. Plus when he has a big week, his name value will probably bring more in trade then what he is really worth. Solid #2.

I think this is the key. He is already a solid RB2 and he has a TON of potential. He can break one any time he touches the ball. The fact he hasn't scored yet and still is fairly solid makes me very comfortable with him as an RB2.

I just don't agree that he's a solid #2 in a non-PPR league.

He's just not going to get the touchdowns necessary for that.

I dont understand this type of thinking. If teams were simply able to "game plan" against Reggie Bush, wouldn't temas be doing such a thing to players such as LT2, or Alexander, or TO, or whomever??There is a reason why teams can't do sucha thing. Mainly, because most if not all NFL teams have enough quality, that if you focus too much defensive energy on one guy, the talent of the others...which may have seemed minimal before, shines on. And secondly, teams can't gameplan against players such as the ones mentioned, because they are freak athletes. They are good enough to beat coverages rolled their way, or beat 2 guys.If you start putting a corner on Bush, and having the safety roll his way, you are screwed. The problem Bush presents is he is a really, really good WR. He is going to beat any outside linebacker, or strong safety who is covering him.The Saints are going to be tough to defend this year

Exactly. If Green Bay keyed in on Bush, then they got burned by Horn and Colston. Brees is a smart QB and will spread the ball around untill they loosen up on Reggie.

I'm a big Bush fan, have him in a .5ppr and 0ppr leagues--both as rb2--and he's kind of hurting me in the non-ppr. Have Deuce in that league as well, and will likely start him moving forward over Bush. (Not chatting my roster, just giving an idea of my opinion of his value in non-ppr)

In the ppr, as other have said, even in two weeks with no TDs and 1 week with 6 yds rushing, he is still putting up solid rb2 numbers. Those numbers will only improve with TDs.

To answer the question of will he be double-teamed to the point where he becomes inutile? I don't think so. First off, he is a monster talent and will still get his.

Second on, he hasn't really done all that much at the NFL level, so I'm not sure teams will start double-teaming until he starts to show the skills of a Faulk Jr.

Third up, with Colston emerging and Horn showing he is not totally done for, you simply can't put a DT on Bush in the slot or out of the backfield bc Brees will kill you with the other two.

IMO, if Bush starts getting consistantly double-teamed, that's good news for Bush owners, as it means he's been tearing up defenses for 3-5 games. :)
