Is Shanny really the devil? (1 Viewer)

The Torain issue and the comments I've seen have me wondering if I'm remembering wrong. I've seen many say something about wanting to avoid "another Shanny mess", often followed by a preference to grab a NE running back.

My memory might be failing me, but it seems to me that Shanny's usually pretty good to fantasy owners. Certainly moreso than BB.

Am I wrong? Or does he normally make his plans pretty transparent, ride the horse he picks, and almost never abandon the running game?

Maybe there's some indecision before the season and the names will change from year-to-year, but when Shanny picks a guy, historically, hasn't that turned out to be a nice guy to have?

It seems like there's some indecision early, then BOOM, a bellcow emerges.

The WAS situation certainly has the makings of a mess, but it seems to me that if it were any other coach, I'd actually be more worried. I don't know for sure who it'll end up being, but with Shanny, I feel confident he'll actually make a decision and ride it.

Am I off-base?

He IS a meddler into our FF operations.

Unless someone emerges that simply is ultra obvious that he is the best guy, you always have to worry about him switching it up whenever a guy gets a boo boo, whenever a guy has a bad day, whenever a guy has some fumbles or gets stuffed at the goalline. You just never know. Its a bit better now that he is in Washington because those games tend to kick off eralier and there must be more media there (seem to hear more than you did when he was in Denver). So he doesn't screw you over as bad as he used to.

But overall, it is difficult.

Just today there is a report that laurence maroney worked out for them. I am sure there will be some people picking him up now just off the name. I won't be one of them..had my fill of Shanny and Maroney. But who knows; a month from now maroney may be in the picture too..

Good luck.

Thread

I attempted to address it here but the thread didnt get much traction. In 13 seasons since 1997 the lead back has received 45% or more of the overall carries 9 times. The in season changes usually occur due to injury although 1 or 2 seasons were due to bad play. The FF hate IMO usually is due to the preseason never knowing which back to have, or getting burned by a RB getting hurt and never coming back. Shanny is brutal on Dynasty owners from year to year as well.

Torain has the potential to be a stud BUT he can not stay healthy. When he gets hurt, the merry go round starts again and shanny will get killed in FF circles since you never know whether Hightower, Helu or even Royster or Maroney (who worked out) will be the man to have. Thats why he is the devil.

TDx2, Portisx2, Gary, Anderson x2, Droughns, T Bell all had 1000 yard seasons. Henry and Torain were on their way but derailed with injuries.

Thats my take....

Here's the first key to Shanahan:

- His offenses tend to be GOOD offenses.

- His running attack/scheme tends to be EFFECTIVE.

The fact that he juggles the RBs with little patience for any of them not meeting all of his standards doesn't translate to "No fantasy value". It's just hard to interpret and the picture is ever changing. That said, you get rewarded for picking the guy that Shanahan settles on (until it's another guy).

Keep this in mind and you'll come to find that Shanahan RBs are actually really solid. The situation is just fluid and WILL changes every year.

How many guys has he actually benched mid-season because of poor performance.

Hightower is one, but he deserved it because he was playing like garbage. What are the others?

He has a rep as a fickle pain in the ### and we've seen his ego pretty clearly w/the Fat Al situation. So he's a headache in the fact that he is always a threat to pull the rug out from under your FF RB. But, I've always beleived in the "draft Shanny's RBs" philosophy b/c they tend to pay off. You can get burned if you have a guy in your lineup the week he gets yanked for a fumble, slipping too much, or some other stupid thing, but you'll likely have a bell-cow RB w/solid ZBS blocking while Shanny is happy w/a guy.

I added Torain b/c I have Hightower. I'm confident of three things:

1. The 'skins will have a studly RB down the stretch.

2. I probably won't know which one in time to start one of mine coming off the bye week.

3. It may not be either of "my guys" that becomes said studly RB down the stretch.

Looking back, I would have to say the 2008 season where we saw carries by Pittman, Hillis, S Young, T Bell, Andre Hall, PJ Pope, and Torain, although Pittman tended to get dinged up. Hillis ended that season strong giving us a glimce of what he could do pre cle.Other then that it may be injury that gets you removed.Although it is sketchy as to whether Hightower was removed for poor play or a bad shoulder, remember that had Torain not broken his hand in the preseason he would have been the man going in.
