Yes and no.Madden commented on it all night...Manning just did not seem right.I think the Bears played well, but were fortunate to go up against the Colts with Manning only practicing for about a week.I think you will see that offense get much better as the year wears on if Manning can keep going and does not have a set back with the knee.
Bears fan here and I have to say I was pleasently surprised how well the D played and the whole team in general. Its only one game but it was against the best QB in the league at exposing D's.
2 out of the last 3 years before this year, the Bears D has been elite. Only time they were not is when they were hit with injuries last year (lost Dusty D for the year in 1st game; lost Mike Brown for year in 1st game; Tommie + Urlacher were dinged; lost Kevin Payne SS for year; lost Vasher for most of the year; lost Tillman for 4 games etc).....guess which is the exception and which is the rule.
This is what it is all about. Last year, the Bears were just on the field far too much in most games. If the offensive line can continue blocking like it did last night, then the Bears D will be right up there (barring too many injuries). If they go back to blocking like they did last year and the D is on the field insane amounts, then they will certainly not be.
If they can stay healthy they will produce turnovers and get some sacks. That's all you can really count on with defensive teams. I think they are a top 5 defense in 2008
it's actually a pretty decent division. Minny, and GB? the lions looked pathetic, yes. Forte/Grant owners gotta be salivating at the thought of playing the lions twice.

I don't think so. The Packers went to the NFC championship. They are minus Favre, but everyone else on that young team gets a year better, with a talented D and lots of talent at the skill spots and oline. The Vikings are the best in the division to me, with the #1 run defense, a top oline, Chester/AP, Berrian, and an improved defensive backfield. Their only weakness is at QB, so we'll see if they were smart to stay invested in Jackson. If the Bears surprise, then this is better division than 2-3 others easily.
Yes really. The winner of any division could be 8-8 after week 1. Packers were in the NFC Game last year. Bears just handed the Colts, yes the Colts, their lunch. The Vikings have the most explosive player in football behind on of the best lines and with one of the best defenses.
