Is there anybody here..... (1 Viewer)

An optimist would point out that we were more divided in 1860, but we eventually got over it. (Granted, it took a literal war, so maybe that's not optimistic after all.) We were probably more divided in 1968 as well. Twelve years later Reagan was able to largely unite us. Biden is no Reagan, but maybe somebody like Buttigieg could be... (Or somebody like Ben Sasse?)

I feel like his sexuality would be a hindrance, in that case, but I would happily vote for someone who legitimately tries to work with multiple sides, even having opposing viewpoints in their inner circle. Who wants to hear yes men all the time?

I thought you were going down a pretty dark path there. Not just a civil war but the assassination of a president, btw. If that's the optimistic viewpoint what does a pessimist have left? Chernobyl? Yellowstone goes super-volcano?

Also not so sure if Reagan brought us together so much as it was fun to have the "cool uncle" take us to the mall and max out "his" credit card. People voted for him in large numbers but if you had a friend or relative touched by the substance abuse or aids epidemic I think you would push back against Reagan uniting us. Health related policies made by politicians got us where we are at today.

I wish more people would have given Yang a chance. Of course with that name I am sure this part of the election would have gotten even more ugly if that were even possible.

They are the two words i've used the most in this forum, but worth restating here - we are "rehearsing tyranny". Tuesday wont change that -
