This has only been my second year of playing fantasy football, and obviously I have become addicted. For the second straight year, I have reached the final game in my ten player league, but this is hardly a result of genius on my part. It's a combination of all of us being newcomers, me paying attention (and belonging to FBG) while the others don't, and luck. Mostly luck.
Which leads me to my question. Luck does seem to be the overriding factor in winning, so much so that sometimes strategy seems worthless. Going into last week, I would have been a little nervous having Brady or Anderson as my QB, because I speculated as early as week 5 that the weather situation would limit these QB's during the FF playoffs (see my earlier threads on this subject). However, I would have been very confident owning Romo.
So my question for long time players: Of course you can't win every year. And there's no way to stop luck, and this may be a highly unusual year, from what I've read here. But what are the best strategies for beating back luck on a consistent basis? Are consistent numbers preferrable to high-reward high risk players? Should we avoid QBs and Wrs that play in cold weather, knowing that at some point in the FF playoffs, they will fail to deliver?
How do we win over luck?
