This was probably an appropriate move for legal reasons.People think the uproar was about the Who's Hottest threads, but that's not really the case. It's because of the simultaneous stealth axing of the Yoga Pants thread, Over 5 thread, and female avatars, among others.
homer went ballistic over that one. This was probably an appropriate move for legal reasons.
I was going to post this exact same thing. Be careful what you wish for @Joe Bryantacarey50 said:The boards over at The Huddle should be referenced as a cautionary tale.

I can handle the take it leave it attitude. Its the pandering 'we' crap that comes along with it that irks me. Its one or the other. Its what you want or what we want Joe. Pick one.Plus the take it leave attitude. That's the real kicker for me.
I wanna see Joe's face when he's sitting in HIS house all alone.
But I've been told by the experts that traffic doesn't matterI was going to post this exact same thing. Be careful what you wish for @Joe Bryant
I was a long time member of the Hiddle and MANY of us left there to come here. The same can and will happen here. It’s not like FBG is the only FF content on the web. Ask David Dorey how much revenue he lost. If you lose the forum it WILL trickle into memberships. I promise.
Ha ha. Right!!But I've been told by the experts that traffic doesn't matter
Unfortunately it sounds like it went down with The Who’s Hottest. The yoga pants thread got axed?! :(
I can’t recall the specific details but one of the owners (not Dorey) started pulling a Joe Bryant, essentially. The Huddle is now a ghost town. Like for real! If JB and team think traffic doesn’t matter, they’re in for a rude awakening. I’m guessing their confidence stems from their partnership with Fan Duel. Maybe they’re right... maybe they don’t need all of us shlubs. What’s the story behind the Huddle?
Well if that's the case, they should take pride in making profits off something that ruins people's lives. That and keeping guys from making comments about women's physical appearance.I can’t recall the specific details but one of the owners (not Dorey) started pulling a Joe Bryant, essentially. Thanks for this info. I’ve never checked out the Huddle.I can’t recall the specific details but one of the owners (not Dorey) started pulling a Joe Bryant, essentially. They started over-moderating - in the eyes of many - mostly related to political threads/posts. Mass exodus ensued. What’s the story behind the Huddle?
Who's there to say no?Think the huddle would welcome FFA refugees?
I started there in '04 or '05. Alot of the regulars were there before me.What’s the story behind the Huddle?
Yeah. I post like 4x a year there now. Dorey is a good dude and his analysis is tops, imo.Think the huddle would welcome FFA refugees?
Could the guys from Fan Duel had some feel for the gambling ruling & pressured JB? Coincidental timing of his message.I can’t recall the specific details but one of the owners (not Dorey) started pulling a Joe Bryant, essentially. The Huddle is now a ghost town. Like for real! I had never checked it out, the non football especially on there looks like a ghost town. That’s what has been really cool over here is pop on FFA real quick and you’ve got at least a few cool threads to check out.....see what’s up with stocks, finance advice, who’s looking strong on the Offdee scale, and yes maybe some yoga pants.I started there in '04 or '05. Alot of the regulars were there before me.
David's partner Whitney would stop by every once in awhile and act like an ###, tossing timeouts around.
Political threads were banned permanently eventually, Whitney pissed off a couple regulars to the point where most everyone said screw you and left for good.
Fwiw I never had any problems with Dorey, I don't think anyone did really, he seems like a good dude.
Also fwiw, I don't remember any mods at the Huddle ever having a problem with something as silly as who's hottest, over 50, yoga pants type threads
The tailgate used to be pretty busy. Tighter knit group than here imo, but probably because it was smallerI had never checked it out, the non football especially on there looks like a ghost town.

I'm sure that a ton of people pay for the subscription and don't bother to post here ever and/or just lurkI was going to post this exact same thing. Be careful what you wish for @Joe Bryant

hundreds of Harlan Peppers. It'll be sad if this place goes. The only other forum I even go to is a fly fishing forum.
Unfortunately, the demo is easily 50+ and not nearly as diverse as this place. Oh well.
Link?I think the bigger question may be are message boards dying, full stop. Not just this one.
Much easier for the participants to go to some nonsense like Twitter/Facebook where you can filter who you interact with and simply reinforce your own world view. These "free" services stand to gain a lot more $ by scraping your data and packaging you to advertisers than the profit Joe ever got by providing these boards.
Joe is a genuinely good guy from what little I know of him. I have no problem if he turns off the PG-rated-porn spigot.... we are all on the internet for god's sake. I always thought it was kind of quaint anyone thought any of this stuff was all that "sexy" in the first place. You can thumb through a sportswear catalog at a dentist's office and see things just as racy. (... and yes that is a dig at Dentist because we all know he wouldn't pay for a subscription to a magazine for his waiting room)
I just think the broader problem is that we as an audience feel like we are only comfortable spending time around folks that agree with us online. Agree where "the line" is between vulgar and not. Definitely agree with regard to politics. The world is becoming a more and more polarizing place and the death of message boards is only contributing to that. The only "discussion" that may happen between people that disagree in the near future are in the comments of Youtube and people using a megaphone on twitter because people should listen to them as they pay no attention to all the other people that only want to use twitter as a megaphone.
The problem isn't with Joe and the fact he feels uncomfortable facilitating some of the things that are posted here. The problem is with us as a community for getting indignant that we are somehow "owed" a backroom with a beaded door... at a site created to talk football. There are lots, and lots(oh and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots) of places to go where you can get cleavage shots(AND MORE!) all day long. Maybe we should just have two bookmarks on our browser instead of just one. A "football forum" bookmark and a "boob forum" bookmark.
They must love your political agenda there. It'll be sad if this place goes. The only other forum I even go to is a fly fishing forum.
