So I have an crazy idea for a league I am thinking about starting, want to get peoples opinions if it is just to much crazy...

25 Man Roster Dynasty No IDP

Serpentine Draft (Tired of auction)

All Play

Best Ball

Roster:

1 qb

2 rb

3 wr

1 te

1 pk

1 def

12 teams

Top 6 teams have an all play playoff, top 2 teams get byes in first round.

Starting in year 2 the rookie draft would be 4 rounds non serpentine drawing from both rookies and free agents, followed by a serpentine regular draft to fill out missing roster spots.

Ability to trade future draft picks.

To much crazy? What would you change? Should I add an OFlex?

I'm in a best ball dynasty league, I think its a great format. The studs at each position still give you a big advantage, but depth comes in to play as well. I don't think you need a flex, the best ball format already offers owners options for how to build their teams, but a flex wouldn't stop me from playing in such a league.

It is a small detail, but I would lose the post-rookie, serpentine draft after the rookie/free agent draft. Missing roster spots after the draft are better handled by the regular add/drop process IMO.

So you think it would be better to run waivers every week after the rookie draft instead of having a 2nd draft?

I like the format. Not sure what scoring you will use. PPR makes it more interesting.Adding a Flex would be nice. With the development of top end TE, it will bring more strategy into play by allowing someone to start Gates/Finley without "wasting" points on the bench each week. Gives you a boost and dries up the pool for others. TE often have a premium of 2 pts per catch vs. 1 for WR too.Agree 100% with the WW process in lieu of the post serpentine draft.

Tired as you might be of Auction-Style Drafts, in my opinion, it's the most fair way to do the initial Player disbursement in Dynasty Formats, allowing each individual Owner access to every Player depending on their individual unique strategies, and their fiscal cost/benefit plan to allocate identical budgets to employ said strategies. Maybe it's just me, but I have a tough time with the idea of building a Dynasty Team through a Serpentine Draft, where freedom of choice becomes more limited...

...that being said, if you're committed to going Serpentine, I'd avocate adding a Flex Position, or even two (with a 1-1-2-1 Base Lineup) and giving some thought to the Scoring System that ensures some equality across all positions, like 'scaled' PPR, to allow the Owners more freedom to develop and exercise unique individual strategies with their Rosters...

in this vein, a method used in the longest-running Dynasty (10 Years) that I've helped craft the rules for (and works with MFL), involves RB/WR/TE all getting 1 PPR, but having to hit different plateaus to start accruing the PPR:

TE start accruing PPR with their 3rd Reception, RB's with their 4th Reception and WR with their 5th Reception. As I see it, this requires the Players to accomplish something significant prior to earning their reward, and doesn't cheaply award the PPR...

...just something to chew on...

 With it being a dynasty format it is much better for each team to have a chance at all players with an auction. With a serpentine draft you are at the mercy of which players fall to your slot, not the best situation when the plan is to have these players for years. With that said I like the concept. I've always been intrigued with a way to reward your depth/bench rather than see all those points wasted because you are a better GM than a coach :hot:
