It appears that the time may be now for David Carr (1 Viewer)

If Delhomme is out for next week, which is possible (I'm hoping for at least 2 weeks inactive), :lmao:

About those gloves: Carr only began wearing them full-time this year. In five years at Houston (where Carr was 22-53 as a starter), he didn't use them in games. But he likes the grip that gloves provide. And, because he's fashion-conscious, Carr wears different-colored gloves to match the Panthers' jersey colors. :lmao:

Carr was Carolina's most important offseason upgrade.

Just...WOW.

Downgrade the #1 team in our league, downgrade Steve Smith to the bench. Please be inactive for 2 weeks minimum.

No way. Carr will lock on to Steve Smith like he did Andre Johnson. The difference is that Smith can take a 3 yard swing pass to the house much easier than AJ can.

That will remain to be seen. The difference is that Andre is huge and could grab those horrible timed passes of Carr's and take the brutal hit that was totally the fault of David Carr. 1 of those and Smith will say, 'screw this'. Forget the big plays. Andre never had a big play until Schaub arrived.

Sounds like another guy over there with the chocolate and strawberries.

is there a real purpose this thread in here? Are you trying to say downgrade Smith because Carr is going to be passing to him behind the Texan's line because it has yet to be seen what he can do behind a real nfl offensive line.

I am not one who thinks you should bench Smith. But to your point, are you referring to the same O-line Schaub is passing behind?

No you don't bench Smith in reality but Carr really will cut down his big play potential. Anyone still blaming the OL in Houston just doesn't get it. I've known for over 3 years that the whole problem over there was always Carr. Schaub has proven it.

Smith's only reception yesterday came with Carr at QB. If there's a positive to come out of that putrid production maybe that's it.

I do agree that you upgrade the defenses facing Carr if you get points for sacks. Carr is a statue in the pocket and makes terrible decisions. He's good for 3-4 sacks a game against even the worst of defenses.

Back to Smith, my guess is that after his horrible Week 3 we see the Panthers make a concerted effort to get him the ball - much the way the Seahawks have responded to Deion Branch getting shut out in Week 1. Smith is by far the Panthers' best offensive weapon so it's safe to say what we saw yesterday was a fluke that won't happen again anytime soon. I do agree that going from Delhomme to Carr is a downgrade for Smith, but not enough to knock him out of anybody's fantasy lineups unless they have ridiculous talent at the position. In my opinion he goes from the No. 2 WR in fantasy with Delhomme to the 8-10 range with Carr.

For what its worth, Smith did have at least a couple bad drops from Delhomme that were definitely Smith's fault. I'd be curious to see how many targets he had...

Yup. I thought it was one of the worst games I've seen Smith play in a long time.

Uhh...its not the same line Schaub is passing behind. At Houston Caar had a different OL than Schaub did.

Carr doesn't ned a betetr grip on the ball, his problem is that he doesn't get rid of it in a timely fashion. He will play badly, but that doesn't mean Steve Smith won't get any looks. AJ did fine last year.

What would those differences be? "Schaub's 111.4 quarterback rating ranks fifth in the NFL, but in Houston the statistic that really matters is he has been sacked only twice. That's a seismic shift for a team that saw Carr sacked 249 times in five seasons.

That pummeling of Carr, now a backup at Carolina, made Houston's offensive line one of the NFL's most mocked units. Before the 2003 draft, an ESPN commercial used doctored film that showed Carr lined up alone for a snap, with no offensive line, and posed the question, "What does your team need?"

But Kubiak and Smith have stuck with three offensive linemen from Houston's original roster. In addition to McKinney and Weary, guard Chester Pitts also is enjoying this season of redemption."

A magician waved his wand and all of a sudden the OL is now good. Hmmmmm......

I admit to knowing almost nothing about the Houston line, but this says that they stuck with 3 guys? Doesn't that mean there are 2 new guys? Isn't that a 40% change?

Yes, it is. Carr finished last season behind the same line Schaub started behind this season.Salaam - Pitts - McKinney - Weary - Winston

The differences between week 1 of last season and week 1 of this season is Charles Spencer, rookie starting LT, who went our for the season in week 2, Zach Weigart, starting RT, who went out for the season in week 10, and Mike Flanagan, starting C, who also went out in week 10.

i'd have to assume that carr downgrades the entire offense, especially going against a tough bucs def. hard to sit steve smith (never bench your studs, and as stated above, he at least can take a 3 yard slant to the house) but i would recommend benching foster despite he's great performance in week 3 (vs ATL)

Actually, isn't it the second season in the zone blocking system that works so well in DEN?Not that it makes much difference, but the line is playing better because it's more comfortable in the scheme.

Carr's lead weight mobility aside, you would have seen better play from the O-line anyway this year, if I'm right with the above. They had already let up a tom less sacks last year - even if they still gave a ton more up.

Houston actually runs a hyprid zone-power blocking scheme. They have taken elements from Kubiak's zone blocking scheme in Denver and elements of Sherman's power blocking scheme in Green Bay.I, and any other Texan fan, can vouch that FavreCo has been dead on Carr's horrid pocket presence. The rep that the Texan o-line gets comes from Carr's inability to (1)sense pressure (2)make quick decisions and (3)throw the ball out of bounds. People would be amazed at the ammount of "sacks" Carr took which were actually him run out of bounds behind the LOS.

Carr stinks. He reminds me of Rob Johnson who used to play for Buffalo. He's just a sack waiting to happen on every play.

Ya those type of things sorte of disapate when you are on your back 96 times a year, especially when you enter your rookie season and all you see is your linemen staring at you from above, asking themselves "what the hell happened"

I think I remember Carr being higher than #5 through four weeks last year. In the 116 range IIRC. Week 1- 102.1

Week 2- 140.2

Week 3- 95.2

Week 4- 95.5

Not sure what that computes out to, but it's damn good IMO.

Moot point?

No Tear In Elbow For QB Delhomme; Could Start Sunday

Darin Gantt, Rock Hill Herald - [Full Article]

According to Carolina Panthers HC John Fox. the MRI on the right elbow of QB Jake Delhomme showed that nothing is torn. He said it wouldn't require surgery, just some rehab, and he didn't even rule out him playing this week against Tampa Bay.
