It's all over for Joe Morgan (1 Viewer)

Jon Miller gone to, but the speculation there was that it was Miller's choice since he prefers radio.
Miller does the Giants play by play (both TV and radio), he probably doesn't need the aggravation of ESPN anyway. Not a huge Joe Morgan fan, I think he's better fit as a #3 guy throwing in info here and there. Morgan does do his research though, and he really gets into interesting details at times. Then he ruins it all with some outer space comment that no one gets.

When?Worst announcer in sports. Glad he's gone, the telecast was unwatchable with him. His ESPN chats were horrific as well.

Doosh in NY: Joe, best player for the next 5-8 years: Jeter, Longoria, Votto or Mauer?

Joe Morgan: Well Doosh, Longoria, Votto and Mauer are nice players and all, but they haven't won a title. Give me the guy who has won the rings.......that's who I'd want on my team for the next decade, because he's been there and I know when the chips are down, he's going to get the big hit in the big moment. And really, that's what this game is all about.

Almost all these jagoffs spew crap like this, across almost all sports. I heard Gruden tonight saying "Terrell Owens has 150 TDs and 12000 yards, you give me two guys like that, and I'm going to win". And when was the last time T.O. was on a winner? There is no acknowlegement of time and place. That said, I don't know why, maybe its as simple as being used to him, but I liked Morgan. He was with Sunday Night Baseball since the beginging and I liked having him around.

He wasn't even just willfully ignorant. He was actively stupid. Our long national nightmare is over.

There is a God. Joe Morgan was TERRIBLE. Some of his quotes:

A lot of star players get booed in opposing stadiums

I dont deal much with stats, Joe. All I know is he's got those INTANGIBLES!

Without their star players, the Mets lineup isn't as strong as it is with them

Hanley Ramirez is an excellent defensive shortstop.

There comes a time in every baseball season when anyone - even hulking sluggers like Sammy Sosa or Carlos Delgado - should bunt. For example, say you're playing a game that decides whether you or your opponent clinches a championship. You come to bat with the winning run on first and nobody out in the bottom of the ninth inning. I don't care how many home runs you hit all season, your job is to bunt that runner to second base.

Everyone believes that a .300 hitter is a good player and that a pitcher with a low ERA is a good pitcher. That belief is not necessarily the case. . . A .300 hitter makes seven outs for every ten at-bats, and if his seven outs come with men on base and his three hits come with no one on base, these hits are not very productive. . . Likewise, many pitchers pitch just good enough to lose. . .Run production is how you measure hitters. Wins and losses are how you measure pitchers. Batting averages and ERAs are personal stats.

This stat (WHIP) tells you how many base runners a pitcher surrenders for every inning pitched...A WHIP below 1.50 is outstanding in these heavy-hitting days.

Milledge may not take off, but with two strikes, he may take off.

Jon: "Curtis Granderson hitting that first home run in his first at bat of the season."

Joe: "That's better than starting 0 for ten before you get your first hit."

Finally somebody that understands the game. You’re right. Statistics are overrated. What you do to help your team win is what it’s all about. These stats like OPS, it doesn’t tell you what you do for the team. To my opinion, to help the team, you drive in runs or score runs. That helps the team. That’s how you should be judged.

And I've seen much worse from the guy, I just didn't stumble across it in my brief search. My favorite quote of his is when he's telling us he just learned a new stat the other day, that there's a difference between a 95 mph fastball and a 90 mph fastball.

Joe Morgan never met an umpire who made a bad call. He was painful to watch as is joe buck and mccarver. I would rather listen to Theisman!!!

But ihave been spoiled listening to the best that ever was: LONG LIVE VIN SCULLY

I liked Morgan back when he was on the NBC broadcasts with Costas and Uecker. Didn't care much for him with Miller though.

(Maybe I just liked Uecker.)

Always hated Morgan, always found him to be an obnoxious blowhard who favors the older players.

Seemingly racist in the way he gushed over any black player that stepped foot on the field
