It's time for DODGER baseball! (1 Viewer)

Cueto and Kershaw were fun to watch and Dee is making some plays, gunned a guy at home (Bruce) on a perfect relay. But the play of the night was a great AB between the two pitchers. Kershaw kept fouling off pitches, 4 in a row after running the count to 3 - 1. On the 9th pitch, Cueto threw a 96 mph fastball which Kershaw again fouled off (5) and Cueto finally just shook his hand, then walked off the mound, haha. Dodger players were loving it, especially Billingsley. They re-do it again and Kershaw fouls back his 6th in a row. On the 12th pitch, he singles to left-center. It was great, and you could see him crack a smile at first along with the guys in the dugout. Good stuff.

That was like his 10th single this year and Vin was saying how he had 10 the last 3 years combined, I think. He went on to say that Kershaw and Bills must have some sort of bet on hitting this year, seriously. Both are up around .270... Scratch that, Kershaw's batting .290 now, Chad's at .280...nice.

Also, there was a very cool "Happy Birthday" sung by the crowd to Don Newcombe. Looked for it briefly on YouTube, to no avail.

Damn, Kershaw with an awesome game. Struck out side in 9th to finish off his 2-hit CG SO. 11Ks. I think he got the last 13 batters in-a-row out. Raised his average to .304 with a big two out, 2RBI hit on a very tough pitch, while putting the game out of reach (4-0). What a stud. He is money at home.

Phew. What a game by the ace. Great 9th all around, an inning that has plagued them big-time...I was surprised. You even had to feel good for Gwynn, of all guys, coming through in the clutch. He fought back from 0 n' 2 with a rope to win it. I gave him no chance at that point. Hell, the guy went 3 for 5 (two of those against Weaver) with 2 of the 3 RBIs. Getting swept by the Anaheim Angels at home (again) would've been brutal. And after Kershaw's valiant performance (did I say valiant?), that woulda been so depleting. Only to have to hit the road after, ugh...

Miles was also down 0 - 2, and somehow hit a tough pitch deep enough to center to get Gordon home who, by the way, was out. And what was up with Mattingly's little guffaw during all this? The coach didn't put a pinch runner at 2nd for Navarro until Gwynn was already in the count. DUDE! An assistant coach probly said something...

You could see Kershaw's disappointment when he gave up that dong to Wells, poor guy. Navarro too, throwing some dirt in disgust after. Did not deserve a loss whatsoever, so it was great to see how stoked he was when they not only got him off the hook, but end up pulling out the win. Love the guy. Kemp went nuts, first one out to Gwynn at 2nd, picking him, tackling him, then throwing fake punches, haha...they all did. Good for them after all the crap around them these days. The flight tonight will be a LOT easier.

So aside from the MAN, here were your heros in the 9th today: Uribe, Navarro, Carroll, Miles, and Gwynn. Typical.

BANKRUPTCY!!!

What a mess. I get that Frank McCourt feels he has been wronged (don;t agree though) but at some point he has to realize this all hurts him in the long run.

Thank GOD Mark Cuban isn't allowed to buy this once-proud franchise.

They might actually become relevant and competitive. :coffee:

So LA is 60-69, 11 games back of first, 2 games out of 3rd, and 1 game from being in last....

YET they could potentially end up with a CY Young award and MVP???

Kemp:

AB HR AVG RBI R SB

479 29 .322 97 81 33

4th in ave, 5th in HR, 2nd in rbis, 7th in runs, 3rd in hits, 3rd in SB

Kershaw

IP W-L SV ERA Ks BB

189.2 16-5 0 2.51 207 48

Tied 1 in wins and IP, 3rd in ERA, 1st in Ks

Great day for the Dodgers....Kemp, Ethier, & Kershaw win Gold Gloves and McCourt finally relents and agrees to sell the team! November 1 will go down as one of the great days in Dodger history.

MLB would be crazy not to let Cuban get in the mix. Good for baseball when Dodgers are good. Nice balance to NYY/Bosox conglomerates. You don't think Cuban makes the Dodgers a ratings powerhouse within three years?

Looks like Cuban is willing to make a 1 billion dollar offer.

You get Dodgers in the playoffs every year with Yanks and Red Sox and you got a lot to work with.

Was shocking that McCourt got the team in the first place. Where were the bidders? Got to think Cuban has a shot here.

I don't recall who said it but one owner has said something along the lines of it's more than just winning that goes into owning a franchise. I wonder how Cuban would be welcomed into what seems to be a group of old money. That said, I would love to see Cuban run a team in baseball. I don't even care which franchise it is.

The day Cuban takes over a baseball team, that team becomes my second favorite team. The job he has done in Dallas with the Mavericks is one of the greatest franchise changes ever, and that was before they won the championship.

I'm just surprised the powerful MLB union has stood for owners not allowing someone like Cuban entry into the fray because they're afraid he'll raise player salaries.Cuban has been better "behaved" the past few years. That along with his success in Dallas will hopefully improve his chances.Hopefully MLB is smart enough to know the splash Cuban could make in LA would benefit everyone. PR and attendance wise. As the Yankees sellout when they take the road so could LA one day. I could see how N.L. West owners would oppose but not so much the rest of the league. Teams like NYY and Boston drive ratings. Why would you not want another team who could do that. More TV money for everyone.

Cuban has tried twice before and been told no, why would MLB change their minds now? Dont get me wrong, I like the idea of Cuban (as a Dodger fan) but just skeptical of MLB allowing it.

Think I read that Cuban wanted nothing to do with it due to the price tag.

Said he was interested but not for a price tag over $1 Bil. Right now they are saying the sale could be between $800Mil and $1.2Bil.

Does anybody know the story behind Kershaw's hip, exactly? I remember him wanting to stay in when he came back and it just seems to me it wasn't nearly as big of a deal as they might have thought.

They really could've used him down the stretch and it likely made the difference in making the playoffs. This wasn't a Strasburg type thing; why and who was so ### #### cautious?
