Gage has a great matchup, statistically and personnel-wise. I just don't think the opportunity is aligned with the matchup angle. He's more of a guy to roll the dice on than a must start (and that applies to any week regardless of the matchup).
Teams have stacked 7-8-9 guys in the box to stop the Titans run, but even if the Lions put all 11 guys in the box, I don't think it would matter. Gage may need to make a big play in the first half to be a real factor in your lineup. That could come on a play-action, broken play or something like that. I definitely could see the Lions selling out to stop the run, forcing Collins to throw early, but ultimately this game has 28-0 written all over it.. by the 2nd quarter, not the 2nd half.
White and Johnson are "must starts". Collins, Gage, Scaife and Brandon Jones are gambles.. if the Lions actually do something to prevent this from being a blow out, then the passing numbers may be solid. The problem is that Culpepper may generate as many points for the Titans as he does the Lions, so I think this one gets ugly. We may see a big play, like a 50+ yard TD from C-Pep to Calvin, but I also expect C-Pep to turn over the ball 2, 3 or 4 times resulting in a TD or more for the Titans defense. If Drew Henson gets into this game this game could become unwatchable.
I just want to give my thanks to the Lions, for being perfect this season so far..
