News: The Dayton Daily News reports that a league source said the 49ers have expressed some interest in acquiring Bengals WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh before the Week 7 trade deadline. According to the report, 49ers offensive coordinator Mike Martz would like to upgrade at the wide receiver position. Roy Williams is also allegedly on the 49ers' radar. Both players are scheduled to be free agents after the season.

I think having a legit WR significantly upgrades J.T. in a Martz offense but does this story have any legs? Any San Fran or Lions homers got any more info on this?

Minimal impact. JT's yardage isn't the problem. He's thrown 6 picks, lost 3 fumbles and been sacked 20 times in 5 games. Until he settles down and gets right between the ears (which I think will happen) having Housh won't mean a serious uptick in terms of FP scored.

Considering how well Ike Bruce and Bryant Johnson have performed, a trade for a star WR improves J.T.'s value immensely in dynasty leagues.

For this year, I am not sure of the impact. It will take some time for TJ to get up to speed - Roy would have a shorter learning curve as he has played in that offense before. By the time the WR can significantly alter the QBs' numbers could be fantasy playoffs time, maybe?

To be honest, I think the trade would have more value for the WR involved than the QB. IOW, I am not sure JT's pretty good numbers would be improved by a star WR, but I think the receiver in question would have better numbers than he has had so far by being the clear WR1 in SF rather than sharing a role with another star receiver.

Picks = Sulivan's fault.Sacks and fumbles are built in for any Mike Martz QB. He REALLY hangs his guys out there.

Picks = Sulivan's fault.Sacks and fumbles are built in for any Mike Martz QB. He REALLY hangs his guys out there.

Respectfully disagree, Marc. Go back and look at the tape. By and large, JTO throws a very catchable ball in good spots. I would also hazard a guess that over half of his picks this year have either been on tipped balls or plays where his receivers let him down. Off the top of my head, 2/3 of his three picks last week were of this variety, and the pick in the end zone against the Saints in Week 4 was a tip as well. JTO is a very accurate passer, even under pressure. TJ has MUCH better hands than Bryant Johnson, and is an infinitely more talented route runner. His addition would be a boon for JTO, and elevate his fantasy value from that of a rotational starter to an every-weeker.
