Jack Nicklaus makes Johnny Miller's 100+ foot putt (2010) (1 Viewer)

I should also point out, Johnny Miller is one of the biggest a holes on Earth.
Other than his Billy Packer-like style of broadcasting, I don't know what you mean.
He's extremely pretentious. I don't mind that he calls it like he sees it. But he's a total contrarian who likes to act like he's so much greater than others. One of the small things he does that really bothers me is when he calls woods "metals." When asked, he said that they're not made out of wood anymore, so he's going to call them metals. So high on his horse. Yet I still hear him call irons "irons" even though they're not made of iron anymore.

He's such a doosh.

I get that, just thought POS was a little harsh. I was wondering if he took your mom out to a nice seafood dinner and didn't call her back.

Well that makes sense. He could have at least sprung for Red Lobster.

POS was mainly because I knew that wouldn't get filtered.

He's not the only guy who calls them metals. I don't care for his style much myself - I think he is overly negative - always commenting on what could go wrong or someone's error, but I wouldn't call him a doosh. He's one of the better commentators in terms of useful information.

Actually it was. Jack didn't line it up. He just belted the thing. Jack tries that shot 100 time without lining it up he misses 90.
No way he makes that 10% of the time without lining it up.
Agreed. From a percentage view, it isn't likely for him to make it again in another 100 tries. But its Nicklaus, and it is the same putt so it isn't unreasonable to think he could jam even a couple home - but I wouldn't bet on it.

The tour has a pretty cool, relatively new stat called "putts gained," this chart shows that 25 feet is the breakpoint for these guys on tour to be expected to make 10% of their putts. It drops pretty quick with it going to 3% at 45 feet.

After 70 feet it drops to 1% expected to be made.

Rory leads the tour to date for putts made over 25 feet at 12.2%. Only 3 other guys are over 10% from that "over 25 ft" distance.

Just awesome...90% of the people on this board could spend all day attempting that shot and never make it. The nonchalance of that was perfect.

Agreed he'd prob not make it again in 5 tries, but brilliant that it dropped that once.
I dont know

I take my boys to the putting greens at the local golf courses and I find the longest/stupidest putt I can come up with on the green. And I hit it over and over again until I make it (while my 2 boys tap in 9,000 1 footers). Point it, I think give even anyone who plays golf all day a putt and they will eventually make it.

On a side note, I found a putt last week that I had to hit in the rough to make...after about 40 minutes I made it. Had to go through the fringe and use the rough to slow it down. It was glorious.
