It is very easy to dismiss a player just because he went to a little school and say that he came out of nowhere and had good workouts after his senior year in college and the hype built, but he can't be that good or why didn't he play for USC, FSU, or Texas.

The answer might be simpler than we could even imagine. HE WAS 5'7 & 160lbs. coming out of high school!!!

Although he was a football, basketball, and track star, his size just didn't measure up. I'm not certain of this but if he was recruited by D-1 schools to play football it would have probably been to play CB, not WR.

I knew a guy from my town that was the ALL TIME California record holder for career rushing and TD's. He had amassed over 7,000 yards and over 110 TD's in high school, and if you watched him he looked like a miniature version of R Bush. He was recruited by several Big programs to play CB and not RB because of his size. This was the ALL TIME CALIFORNIA RECORD HOLDER!!!! His name was Domique Dorsey, and he ended up going to play RB at UNLV where he was the 6th leading rusher in the NCAA a few years ago, and now plays in the CFL, but the difference between these two guys is that Dorsey never grew or put on any weight. J Jones grew 7 inches and put on 50lbs.

The point is that there are 1,000's if not millions of guys that play high school football. And the one thing that can be a great separator is SIZE. Surprisingly a team will choose the guy with size over the guy with stats often just because stats are dependent on too many other factors. If teams like USC will pass on guys like Dorsey cause he was too little, surely they would pass on J Jones too.

The fact is Jones turned his weakest attribute coming out of high school into one of his biggest strengths. The fact that others avoided him so he had to go to Lane College because he WAS a little guy, should not mean that you should avoid him now.

I think that he is a special talent and has a very bright future ahead of him!
