Jadeveon Clowney DE South Carolina (1 Viewer)

Clowney is interesting. Along with Cam Newton, and maybe Jason Peters, he is 1 of only 3 FA's remaining, who will make a gigantic difference to a team next season.

I see Clowney's side for sure. He's better than Frank Clark, Yannick Ngakoue, or Dee Ford. Why should he be paid less than them?  They are all making 17 million or more, and he doesn't cost draft capital like they do/did.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports the Browns had interest in free agent Jadeveon Clowney.

The Browns were willing to offer more money than other teams, but nothing ultimately got done. It's possible Cleveland has moved on from Clowney after signing Adrian Clayborn, though they can still clear $15.5 million in cap space from releasing Olivier Vernon if they want him. In addition to the Browns, Clowney has been linked to Tennessee and hasn't ruled out re-signing with Seattle.

Free agent Jadeveon Clowney has lowered his asking price.

Clowney is asking for around $17 million per year after seeking $20-plus million annually. Re-signing with Seattle remains one of his top options, but the Seahawks may only be willing to pay him between $13-$15 million AAV. The coronavirus pandemic has worked against Clowney, with teams unable to bring him in for a physical. Clowney's best bet may be settling for a one-year, prove-it deal.

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo believes the odds that free agent Jadeveon Clowney re-signs with the Seahawks are "slim to none."

"I don't know if he's going to be back in Seattle," Garafolo said in a radio interview before ratcheting up the certainty. "The chances are slim to none." Clowney has already had to lower his asking price, but it seems that ship has sailed between both sides. There has been increasing chatter that Clowney could wait months to sign. The Seahawks got a trade bargain on Clowney last year. Perhaps they will come through again if Clowney's demands continue to recede.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports free agent Jadeveon Clowney is willing to sign a 1-2 year contract.

Clowney has already been forced to lower his asking price. Now he seems to be trending toward a one-year, "prove it" type deal. Fowler reports the Browns may have come the closest to signing Clowney to this point, but that nothing is imminent.

When asked if there's still a chance the team signs free agent Jadeveon Clowney, Titans GM Jon Robinson responded, "You never close the door on anything."

"We'll see," Robinson said on potentially adding Clowney. "Like I said a couple of weeks ago, we've had some discussions there and we've had some dialogue back and forth. You never close the door on anything." ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported that Clowney is willing to sign a short-term deal, but even that may have to wait into late spring. The Browns have also been linked to the 27-year-old EDGE as a potential suitor.

Speaking after the draft, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said the team is "staying in touch" with free agent Jadeveon Clowney.

"He's kind of patient with the time frames that are out there and all that,” Carroll said of Clowney. “But he knows that the Seahawks are a place that he had some success and that he had a really good time and he contributed to our club and all of that. That’s a pretty good feeling for him being out there still." Carroll's words come three days after GM John Schneider said something similar. The Seahawks did not draft a Clowney replacement. This move might eventually fall into both sides' lap.

Speaking in a Thursday radio interview, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll confirmed the team is "not shutting the door" on re-signing free agent Jadeveon Clowney.

Carroll was simply building on remarks he made during draft week. The Seahawks are clearly content to wait out Clowney, who is reportedly willing to sign a short-term deal. The fact that Clowney's market has remained at a standstill even following the draft suggests that no one is remotely close to meeting his asking price. An in-house physical could also be a sticking point for teams considering Clowney's injury history.

ESPN's Dianna Russini reports the Seahawks and Titans have made "multiple" offers to free agent Jadeveon Clowney.

And none have reportedly met his desired price tag. Russini was also told the 27-year-old EDGE rusher is "just not in a hurry to sign" considering organized activities are still up in the air. With no mandatory workouts in the near future, Clowney's market will likely remain at a standstill until he budges from his own requests. This situation could last well into the summer.

Free agent Jadeveon Clowney said he "loves Seattle" and isn't ruling out a return to the Seahawks.

Clowney declared himself 100% recovered from sports-hernia surgery, which he had in February, and is doing all of the drills required of him while training down in Houston. Clowney is chalking up his slow market to teams not being able to get their hands on him for medical and physical purposes due to the pandemic. At this stage of the year, it would seem inevitable Clowney is going to have to take a short-term deal and take another swing at free agency next March.

ESPN's Brady Henderson reports free agent Jadeveon Clowney would have to take "significantly" less money than what Seattle previously offered him in order to re-sign with the team.

Seahawks GM John Schneider reportedly remains open to re-signing Clowney, but it seems unlikely to happen since the latter rejected the team's last offer. Clowney has since dropped his asking price to around $17 million to $18 million annually with no dice. With the Browns and Titans having seemingly moved on from being linked to the 27-year-old EDGE rusher, it could be well into the summer before Clowney finally puts pen to paper on a one-year 'prove it' deal.

ESPN's Dianna Russini reports the Raiders aren't interested in free agent DE Jadeveon Clowney.

The Raiders certainly can use all the help they can get on the defensive side of the ball, but it appears Clowney is neither in their short- nor long-term plans. Reports this week have indicated the Titans and Seahawks are the top-two teams vying for Clowney's services. The talented former No. 1 overall pick hasn't put up the biggest sack numbers during his career, although consistent double teams and disruption have been a staple of his game since entering the league.

Looking at the post-draft updated unit rankings from Mike Clay both the Titans and Seahawks need help at EDGE but their are other teams who could use help at EDGE and Clowney would fit their scheme.

LINK to graph of NFL unit grades >>  📊 >> Post-draft 2020 NFL Unit Grades

You can see that in addition to the Titans and Seahawks that both New York teams have dire need at EDGE as do a few other teams who may not have the cap-space or be proper fits to scheme with Clowney but its puzzling why he hasn't gotten picked up yet.

Mike Vrabel told reporters he has not spoken to free agent Jadeveon Clowney.

The Titans and Seahawks have been the two teams consistently linked to Clowney, with ESPN's Dianna Russini reporting both have made "multiple offers" to the pass rusher. Vrabel was on the Texans' coaching staff starting in 2014, the same year Clowney was selected No. 1 overall. This is all trending towards Clowney signing once players report for training camp.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Browns have offered "the most money to date" to free agent Jadeveon Clowney.

"It's the richest offer on the table and he hasn't taken it," Schefter said in an appearance on The Next Level with ESPN Cleveland. "So why is that? I don't know. Is that not wanting to be in that city? Is that a lack of belief in the organization? I don't know what it is. But there's no doubt Cleveland has offered the most money to date." It's possible the 27-year-old free agent is simply holding out until players report for camp before signing. Whatever the case, Clowney has reportedly received "multiple" offers from the Browns, Titans, and Seahawks and has not agreed to any. We would expect this drama to end in the early summer.

Speaking Thursday, GM Jon Robinson said he believed the Titans were a "pretty good fit" for free agent Jadeveon Clowney.

"No conversations of recent," Robinson said of talks with the blue-chip free agent. "I think we're going to continue to monitor it and see. ... I know he wants to play. I think we would be a pretty good fit for him." Clowney's market remains at a standstill as the NFL tries to figure out the next step in its coronavirus-affected offseason. Clowney's over/under date for signing is July 28, which is the uniform training camp report date this year.

The Cleveland Plain-Dealer's Mary Kay Cabot reports the Browns "haven't given up on" signing free agent Jadeveon Clowney.

Clowney and current Browns DE Myles Garrett share the same agent, Bus Cook, and Cook has been talking with the Browns about both players' contract situations, as Garrett is seeking a long-term deal. Clowney reportedly received his best offer from the Browns earlier in the offseason, but it wasn't close to what he was looking for, which is believed to still be around $17-18 million per year. Clowney is staying patient and playing the long game as the country continues to deal with bigger issues outside of sports.

ESPN's Josina Anderson reports free agent Jadeveon Clowney intends to sign with a team "before the season starts, if everything still goes on time with the season."

Clowney also told Anderson that he "has not narrowed down a final team" and is "still open" to any suitor. The 27-year-old is still believed to be looking for $17-18 million per year; the Browns were previously thought to be the highest bidder but were shot down since their number didn't rival that requested mark. The Titans and Seahawks could also be his final destination if his desired amount comes down.

The Seattle Times believes the odds that free agent Jadeveon Clowney re-signs with the Seahawks are "likely increasing."

When the Browns opted to restructure Olivier Vernon's contract rather than release him, it might have removed Cleveland as a suitor. The Raiders have apparently made a lowball offer. Reporter Bob Condotta does not expect the Seahawks to offer the $15-$16 million that was originally on the table. Clowney is a good player with no good options.

Following the restructuring of DE Olivier Vernon's contract, a source told Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio that the Browns are likely ending their pursuit of free agent Jadeveon Clowney.

The Browns were among teams linked to Clowney throughout the offseason, joining the Titans, Raiders and the Seahawks. In fact, a report from beat writer Mary Kay Cabot claimed back in June that Cleveland "hadn't given up on" the idea of adding Clowney to their roster. There was previously very little guaranteed money tied to Vernon, but the re-work in his deal now adds over $10 million in guarantees. By their actions, the Browns are telling the public they are out of this race. The wavering status of training camp likely continues to delay Clowney's signing.

Titans GM Jon Robinson said the team is "still monitoring" free agent Jadeveon Clowney.

Robinson also more or less admitted the team has spoken with Clowney within the "last week." It's a not-so-subtle public recruitment of the big fish free agent whose market went haywire after the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Training camp supposedly begins in 12 days, giving Clowney another deadline to aim for.

Appearing on Sportscenter, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler stated the Seahawks are "all but out" on re-signing free agent Jadeveon Clowney following the acquisition of Jamal Adams.

Seattle has to pay Adams big money on a long-term deal now, leaving no real room for Clowney's anticipated big salary, even if it comes via a one-year deal. The Seahawks had been entertaining the idea of bringing back Clowney in recent months with his market not shaping up as he would have expected in March. The Browns are also out on Clowney after restructuring Olivier Vernon's deal this summer. That leaves the Titans and maybe even the Saints. Players in New Orleans have been campaigning for Clowney in recent days.

The Titans were able to structure and re-sign Henry in order to afford Clowney.

The love between he and Vrabel is a bit much at times but what players doesn't want to play for a coach that thinks he hung the moon?

The GM keeps talking about Clowney

Lots of Titans started following Clowney on IG the other day

For a team weak at DE/OLB, they just cut a special athlete that needed time to get it together in Amani Bledsoe. (Good for him, he needs to go to a 4-3 team and all you IDP folks need to put him on your radar)

Any tryouts, reported interest, etc have not been for OLB, nickel end types.

**************

I don't want him! I think the addition of Beasley was stupid if Clowney signs and adding Clowney + Beasley is not better than Ryan and Casey.

The Titans love their depth and are built very well in that regard. They can put speed out there, coverage ability, hustler, gamer....you name it, the depth at LB is well built.  They just need a special starter at a position that demands it in the NFL.

I doubt they can trade Beasley with that new big contract, but I wouldn't be surprised if Landry is traded (if) after Clowney is signed. Or maybe this is how the former LB turned coach wants his team, to have an extra stud backer? The next two years will bring Jayon Brown and then Rashan Evans' new contracts so that would be a ton of coin spent on backers, not to mention adoree's new deal and butler being expensive, Byard got paid....The Titans had some success last year and oh so many teams in NFL history have overspent and had to eat it for a few years. They gotta be real careful to keep this winning window open and not mess it up.

I am super afraid that Clowney slams that window shut. He makes too much, plays too little, and appears to also get too much attention for a unit that should be screaming team unity.

The Titans don't have stud starting OLBs but they added LB/S tweeners and brought back Lebeau's 3 safety set that does a nice job of bending but not breaking. Yep teams will run there and throw short outside to the TE and it's a gimme play, but they're ready for it and nail em'. The extra wheels on a safety don't hurt when facing a running QB either. It was manageable and they did real well with it last year.

Casey was OMG solid and should be a HOFer by opposing players and opposing coach speak. If anyone played the Titans honest and ran up the middle, he could fend off blockers and make it so difficult. He was such a gem, so underappreciated elsewhere, but such a gem. Simmons looked real good at times, real tired other times. He came off an injury and may turn out to be a stud, you can see it's possible, but that was another reason teams ran outside- good luck blocking Casey and Simmons. I think it's totally different and now Simmons has to see if Casey left his cape in his locker for him to use. The other lineman perk up every now and then, but are essentially good to below average. None special. They'll be exposed plenty with just one 'name' for OLs to deal with.

For so long, the Titans struggled to get a nose and they had quite a few solid to excellent MLBs that were asked to do way too much and fend off a lineman while making a play where as on most teams the NT can occupy one, at least one.  Now, they have some big tough guys with some fight to em' but not special NTs. If their (true) base becomes a 3-4 rather than the nickel, what's Simmons gonna do as a nose? It's totally different with a nickel and two gems inside. We got to see Evans and Brown blossom where they could just play the game and not have to deal with OL and it was so much better.

I oh so much think adding Clowney is a bad thing and keeping Casey would have been eons better

I'm watching Jalen & Jacoby on ESPN, and there's talk that Jadeveon Clowney might sign with the Jets.  Does that make sense for both sides?

I'm not sure that makes sense for either side actually. The Jets are treading water until they overhaul their coaching staff, whom I'm sure Clowney would love, and he seems to want to play for a contender, or at least that is what he said when FA began.

I actually have been wondering if New England makes sense, now that they just cleared a ton of cap space with Cannon, Hightower, and Chung opting out. He'd probably help, more than losing any of those guys hurt.

Careless in not contacting the team, but we all don't have our heads when we're mourning so...we'll see if it is actually excused when he reports.

ESPN Jets reporter Rich Cimini reports the Jets have "no interest" in free agent Jadeveon Clowney.

The Jets-Clowney connection has been generating some social media buzz in recent days following the trade of Jamal Adams that brought back S Bradley McDougald from the Seahawks. McDougald, of course, played with Clowney in Seattle last season and said he'd be "go to bat" for Clowney to get him to the Jets. However, it doesn't sound like it's in the cards at the moment, per Cimini. Gang Green has long lacked edge-rushing talent, and Clowney would be a huge get for that defense. Clowney has also previously expressed interest in playing in the New York City market.

The Patriots could use major help along their front seven after seeing several of their most disruptive defenders exit in free agency (Jamie Collins, Kyle Van Noy, Danny Shelton) or opt out due to the coronavirus (Dont'a Hightower). Those four players ranked among the team's top six leaders in QB pressures last season, while Collins and Van Noy ranked first (22) and second (21) in hurries, according to Next Gen Stats. Clowney had more than both with 23. The three-time Pro Bowler also had a higher stuff percentage (6.3%) than any player on Bill Belichick's dominant 2019 unit. Although New England has been talking up third-year linebacker Ja'Whaun Bentley, asking a guy with 413 career snaps (per PFF) to fill the shoes of so many productive veterans is a lot, to say the least. Bringing in a player of Clowney's caliber on a team-friendly(ish) one-year deal -- if he'd succumb to taking a bit less money -- would alleviate some of that pressure, giving the Pats a versatile edge presence to team with second-year defensive end Chase Winovich and rookie outside linebacker Josh Uche. Clowney would get to play for one of the greatest defensive minds of all time before earning another shot to finally cash in. Would it really surprise anyone if the 2014 No. 1 overall pick becomes the next passed-over former first-rounder to land in New England?

One of the editors on nfl.com came up with this theory, and after reading it a few times, I'm beginning to agree.  Jadeveon Clowney would definitely benefit from playing under Bill Belichick, at least for this year.

ESPN's Dianna Russini reports the Jaguars are "monitoring" free agent Jadeveon Clowney's market.

That would be the same Jacksonville Jaguars who are openly tanking the 2020 season. Unless the plan is to sign Clowney before trading him in October, color us skeptical. The money would have to blow Clowney away, which would then make him difficult to deal. Per Russini, the Saints and Titans are both putting the hard sell on Clowney. He apparently remains out of the Seahawks' price range. Clowney is quite clearly going to find a new home in the next 24-48 hours.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports the Saints are engaged in an "all-out blitz" to sign free agent Jadeveon Clowney.

ESPN's Dianna Russini reports the Titans are also making a "strong push" to sign the elite free agent. Per Russini, both the Titans and Saints are hoping to have Clowney on the practice field by Monday. Pelissero reports Clowney has spoken "multiple times" to Saints coach Sean Payton. It is absurd that Clowney remains unsigned, but he should at least have a home for Week 1. The question is how many snaps he will be in shape for. Clowney would be a no-brainer signing for the all-in Saints and a huge addition to a solid Titans defense that nevertheless lacks star power.

Vrabel also said the team has "been in contact" with Clowney and his agent. The Titans have always been in the mix, showing interest in Clowney throughout the offseason, but talks slowed once teams were kept away from facilities. Free agent Jadeveon Clowney tells Josina Anderson he has yet to make a decision on his new team.

It appeared that the Titans had won the newfound Clowney sweepstakes with a one-year, $12 million deal, but Clowney is evidently relishing in a bidding war between Tennessee and New Orleans after months of his market being at a standstill. The Titans still appear to be the favorites, but it would seem they are going to have to further sweeten their offer. This could still get done Saturday night.
