Jahvid Best - Concussion Concerns? (1 Viewer)

Per PFT:

With second round pick Mikel Leshoure already out for the year, the Lions are counting on Jahvid Best to stay healthy.

The second year pro, who battled turf toe last year, suffered some sort of injury Friday night.

The Lions would only say that Best was taken to the locker room for observation. It appeared trainers may have been giving Best concussion tests on the sideline, but that has not been disclosed. Best had a lot of concussion issues in college.

Best returned to the sideline with his helmet off after halftime.

Major bummer that Leshoure went down for Lion fans. That will definitely prevent major progress, any other injuries on offense and you can kiss the season goodbye.

Please don't tell me Best is out for a chunk of the season with this.???!!! I have him as my 2nd Rb in a 10 team PPR league redraft. No please no. This is not my year. :bag:

This seals the deal on me not considering drafting Best. I love the situation, and want to give him a 2nd chance after the turf toe, but no way I consider him after this.

Just read this. So I feel a little better.

Jahvid Best said it was "no big deal" and he did not undergo concussion tests. Would have continued playing in regular season game.

I hope everyone in my drafts feels the same way you do.
Not saying Id never draft him, but I wouldnt consider Best before the 5th...Dude is walking crutches.
Sorry. I was thrown off by the subtlety of your phrase "no way I consider him after this."

Rotowrold bit from mlive.com

Jahvid Best spoke with reporters following Friday night's preseason game, and assured that he's "not concerned at all" after it was originally believed he may have suffered a concussion.

Coach Jim Schwartz confirmed that Best was "woozy," but the fact that the running back conducted post-game interviews is a good sign. "It was nothing bad, but I just wasn't feeling right so they told me to sit down," Best said. "I'm not concerned at all." Schwartz even hinted that Best has no injury.

I guess I was strong. What I meant to say was "Im sure he gets drafted before I even consider taking him", and Im pretty sure thats what happens.

Damn the guy's a magnetic for injuries. I really want to take him this year cause I feel he's good value for where he's getting drafted if he only stays healthy. I'll take him at the right round and eat the risk of him getting injured.

injury prone... "a magnetic" for injuries... meh! every single player in the NFL is injury prone. this is the NFL. the contact is unavoidable and inescapable. as are the injuries. imo, best has that "it" factor... and i hate the lions for it. i wish we had a kid like him running the ball in green bay. concussions happen and i agree it's concerning if best gets another... but the risk is > reward imo.

I'm a bit concerned about the concussions - bad one in college. Have him in two leagues and will look to back him up with Jerome Harrison I guess.

I disagree a bit here - seeing Best's college concussion was awful, and it put him out for the rest of the year. It's an added risk for sure -- there's a reason Austin Collie's ADP dropped, it's because people think he could be out with one shot. In redraft I wouldn't be worrying about this as much, but in dynasty I would have a "mild" concern, because concussions are serious and get progressively worse. Best's prior concussion was a major injury - it needs to be taken into consideration IMO.

Are you sure Harrison is the play? In the end I think it will still be Morris...and don't sleep on Aaron Brown.

I'm not sure Harrison is the play at all. My thought process is that Harrison's skill set is relatively similar to Best (not as explosive obviously) and he has had some prior success. I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't the answer, though I do think he's a better player than Morris.

Agree on Harrison's skill set being most similar, and I think he could do well in that offense. It's crap shoot at this point. Wish I had a crystal ball.

It looked like Best popped right up after the play. Doesn't seem serious. I doubt the Detroit running game has much fantasy value outside of Jahvid.

Yea he got popped by Joe haden on the swing pass.. I was always a Best fan and a Detroiter here, but this is concerning as it Looks like Best can't take a hard hit. It seems to me everytime he gets hit hard he is having some kind of wooziness or concussion symptoms and to think he will last a 16 game season as a feature back where he will be getting hit much harder then the CB Haden laid on him, I would be hesitant to take him before the 4th round in ppr 12 team league.

If I can get Foster, Rice, Peterson, or Chris Johnson in my draft with my first pick, then I will strongly consider Best in the 3rd round. I really think he has tremendous upside. However, if I can't get a AAA running back to start out the draft, then I will pass Best up and take somebody around the same ADP who will probably be more consistent and less of a gamble, say a Hillis or Bradshaw.

I like the guy, but I would never get on board with his ADP. He either gets injured and misses time or gets nicked and is ineffective. I am not an insider but it doesn't look like he works well with pain. I would prefer a safe bet because I don't really think hat even at best case scenerio for Best he gets more than a half round profit for where you draft him.

I like Harrison. I think he will put of decent numbers with Best healthy and real good numbers if he is out.

Heard on The Ticket that Best is concussed..only was in for three plays and banged up again.

Doubt we see Best ino another preseason game. Concussed but they want to call it a bell ring.
Best will be OK....got his bell rung and needs to clear the cobwebs.
Cobwebs are adding up for Best. He had major 'cobweb' issues in college.
This is why the Lions drafted Leshoure so early. Pretty sure they were going to limit Bests carries. There is no way Best can take the pounding of a bellcow RB.

Concussions and turf toe. No other injuries are more frustrating fantasy-wise. Wouldn't go near this guy where he's being drafted.
