Jahvid Best (1 Viewer)

There will have to be a consensus among Jahvid Best's doctors before he's cleared to return.Best will undergo a battery of concussion tests this week to determine whether the Lions will active him off the PUP list ahead of Week 7. He's seeing multiple local and national specialists and they'll all have to sign off. For what it's worth, Best says he's in the best shape of his career. The Lions and fantasy owners are anxiously awaiting his possible return.Source: ESPN.comOct 8 - 11:34 AM
IF Best gets cleared by ALL of those doctors AND he can show some effectiveness THEN he will have been worth holding on to/picking up. I tend to think it was the plan to hold Best out for a year, get the medical attention/treatment he needed so he can continue his career. I am cautiously optimistic.

I saw on twitter that Best went through his concussion tests on Monday and is supposed to get the results tomorrow.

There are several other reporters tweeting info. Guess he must have just held a press conference or something?

But it sounds like we'll know tomorrow.

If he's still available in your league I guess this would be the last chance to pick him up.

On board.

FF is also more fun when you can actually pull for the players on your team on a personal level. Best seems like a good, tough, hard working guy who is trying to overcome a major obstacle and live the dream.

>>>Based on Jahvid Best's comments to media today, I'd be shocked if he isn't cleared to practice next week -- and play at Chicago on MNF.<<<

A poor man's Sproles? Sounds good to me. This is the ww. Best has shown that he can put up some very good numbers. Definitely worth the minimal risk.

Rotoworld:

Jahvid Best (concussion) will not be ready to hang up his spikes if he doesn't gain clearance with Friday's test results.

Best hasn't even thought about retirement, preferring instead to "cross bridges when I get to them." If Best does gain clearance, coordinator Scott Linehan suggested he will return to a significant offensive role. "You've all seen Jahvid when he's played," Linehan said. "He's as explosive of a player as I've been around. We're excited about the prospect of him coming back."

I have him on a bunch of my dynasty teams, but had kind of forgotten that he even exists. It will be funny if he comes back, rips it up, and leads my teams to some titles.

Of course he will probably go down in a heap the first time a defender lays a glove on him, but it's always nice to dream...

Hes worth a pickup because its only costing you a waiver spot and if you are carrying a 5th RB or 5th WR or extra kicker or Defense then no biggie. ofcourse you dont drop anyone of value for him . (Example Look at it this way. If he was healthy where would he have gone in your draft. Round 4-6 maybe as a RB2 . You can pick up a PPR machine for nothing. And if he last 3 weeks and gets injured , what was the cost. A waiver wire pickup. You get off cheap.

The results from an MRI or CT scan might take a couple of days, especially if he was seeing multiple doctors. They probably already got the results and are just waiting until Friday to release it.

Just picked him up....you are welcome for the update. In PPR everyone should stash this guy.
He was on my WW and I took a pass. Remaining games include @CHI, SEA, @MIN, HOU, PHI and Wks 15 and 16 @AZ and ATL. Combine that with Bell having a similar skill set, remaining injury risk and GL looks likely going to Leshoure and not much there IMO.
Bell has a similar skill set... U are joking right?

Best has won me a lot of games & $$$ in the past, but unfortunately unless he's wearing a steel cage around his head & the NFL is now flag football, I'm going to have to pass. Wishing him all the best in his future, but I don't foresee him making it past 1 game.

Just need him for week 7 and 8 for bye weeks. Are we thinking he would be ready for a decent offensive load that quick?

Hey just speculating here, but I have him and am not planning on starting him week 7, if he does decently in week 7 and gets a score & perhaps some decent workload (10 touches?) then I would think he's startable. the Lions need to get some scores and I'm thinking they know they need to get a spark.

In the same boat. I LOVE that this kid has a passion for the game, but I have no doubt his playing days are limited. If Detroit is smart and only gives him about 5 "swing for the fences" type touches, he could be a very useful member of the team. Not sure I'd want the boom or bust fantasy play though.I've got to think his next big hit just might be his last in the NFL.

Just heard on The Ticket this afternoon that they are still not sure Best will be cleared to play as of yet. Best had some tests done this week and they are still evaluating him. This has been almost one full calender year and things are still dicey? I hope he can play and be his old self..but am really concerned what the next big hit wil bring.

If/when Jahvid Best "show's effectiveness", you will not be able to pick him up; he will have long been rostered.

I am guessing if it was dicey he would not be in there now. I'm guessing he's already had testing on a regular basis for some time leading up to now. And I'm guessing that the Lions and the NFL are being super, extra, very, mucho mucho careful to CYA themselves liability-wise and if and when Best is approved they will be able to say that they have an absolute gold-clad series of test results to back them up.

:goodposting: I know, right?!

This is what cracks me up about how some people approach fantasy football.

And no offense to anyone or whoever was being quoted.

But the goal is to be in before the rest of your league.

If you wait till he is cleared, everyone goes after him.

If you wait till he has some effectiveness, you no longer have any chance of getting him.

Unless you play in a free league with suckers.

He may or may not work out, but during a season when reliable RB's seem as hard to come by as any time in the past decade....and during a week when people are reaching for W. Powell, B. Powell, A. Green....seems silly not to take a chance on this guy right now if he's still there. I play in a fairly competitive league so I jumped the gun and got him last week before he was on anyone's radar. If he's not cleared or he doesn't cut it in a week or two, well I dropped a scrub from the roster bench who probably wasn't going to cut it either.

Wow...is he done?

Updating a previous report, the Detroit Lions are hopeful that RB Jahvid Best (concussion) will be able to return to the field at some point. The team announced a press release after they determined that he will not be coming off the Physically Unable to Perform list this week. 'After today's consultation with medical experts, including representatives from our medical and training staffs, it has been determined that Jahvid will not be permitted to return to play at this time,' general manager Martin Mayhew said. 'Jahvid will continue to work with our medical and training staffs with the hope that he ultimately will be cleared to return to the playing field.'

Lions kept RB Jahvid Best (concussions) on reserve/PUP, ending his season.
Surprised this hasn't been mentioned, but for those of us that are holding onto him in leagues with an IR, is this a different designation?

This is from the NFL Players Association website:https://www.nflplayers.com/Articles/Public-News/Hurt-What-Injured-Players-Need-to-Know/As best I can tell, there is Reserve/Injury, Reserve/non-football injury and Reserve/PUP. All Reserve lists mean you are done for the season, but only Reserve/Injury is called IR on MFL (even though the other two also mean that you are done for the season in the same way as Reserve/Injury, just that in one list, your injury didn't occur playing football, and in the other you started out the season on the PUP). I'm still confused though. I did look up on MFL to see how Sergio Kindle was treated by MFL when he was on the Reserve/Non-football injury list, and they never gave him an "I" designation, always with an "O".So my reading of this is that although all three lists essentially constitute IR, MFL only recognizes players placed on Reserve/Injury as being on IR.Disclaimer: I am not an employee of the NFL that specializes in Reserve list decisions....

It was mentioned in the Detroit Lion thread. Heard on The Ticket yesterday that Best failed every concussion test once again and no doctor will clear him to play football. One year later and Best is still failing concussion tests does not bode well for his NFL future.Best has not been the same since that hit at Cal when he landed on his head.

#Lions Jahvid Best said he was tested Monday and will get results tomorrow. He's optimistic, called himself poster boy for concussions.
LOLNot sure that means what he thinks it means. He's so wrong he's right.
I feel bad for him not being able to play, but just retire and enjoy the rest of your life. I can't imagine a team signing him and having to live with the chance that they may be responsible for causing him to have permanent brain damage.

I agree - if he's cleared, Detroit should keep him and make him inactive every week - or release him. But Schwartz is a big enough jerk to insert him in the starting line up first chance

Big-time gamble by the Lions that unfortunately backfired. I am curious to know what makes Best's situation different from say, Austin Collie's or guys like Polamalu and Harrison who claim to have had numerous concussions, but we won't know that for a long time, if even at all. The Lions offense is missing that explosive back that can keep the defense honest (sure would be nice to have a LaMichael James now).

RB is a sucky way to make a living. It is not the glamour position it once was. Quarterbacks, wide receivers, shut down corners, and pass rushers are where it is at. RB has extremely short careers. They take the biggest pounding. About the time they are eligible for that big contract, they are told they are on the downside of their career.

3 years of service, Best will be eligible for NFL pension. He's not going to suit up again and the Lions are doing right to see he sees his 3 years of service. I think he'll wind up retiring and getting a job within the organization.

Any insight on whether Best will hit the Injured Reserve list this year? He seems to be on PUP but I need him to get over to IR.

Thanks
