Jake Delhome Injury Update (1 Viewer)

The sobbing in the background is coming from Steve Smith and his fantasy owners.

From RotoWorld:

NFL Network's Adam Shefter reports that Jake Delhomme's injury is more "week-to-week" or even "month-to-month" than the day-to-day outlook given by the team.

Surgery remains a possibility and Delhomme seems unlikely to play anytime soon. Shefter reports that it's contributing to a grim outlook around the Panthers, who may have their doubts about David Carr. It's certainly not good news for Steve Smith owners and Delhomme owners can consider cutting bait.

When your best play by your QB is a flip threw the air on a QB run (hey it was pretty nice looking), you should be concerned.

It can't get any worse for Carr. If it does, put Weinke on speed dial

This probably will end the Fox tenure in Carolina. Carr was horrible yesterday.

I had Delhomme as a Carson Palmer bye week replacement. I guess he is free to cut.

I don't know where Rotoworld is getting their info from. From the Panthers website today:Delhomme interview

On his elbow: I feel great. I really do. I haven’t tried to throw. I’ve taken snaps. It doesn’t hurt at all. I’m not sure when we’re going to throw. I’m going to leave that up to (head athletic trainer) Ryan (Vermillion). I think he has a pretty good idea of when he wants me to. That’s where we are right now. On if he might try to throw this week: I’m hoping so, but we don’t know. We’re going to play it by ear. I did take snaps just in case I would have to go in yesterday. On the diagnosis: It’s a strained elbow. That’s where we are. Surgery may happen. I don’t know. That’s the honest to God’s truth. We don’t know yet. Is it a possibility? Yeah, but it’s not in my mind right now.On why he might need surgery if the MRI didn’t show anything: Well, the MRI showed that it’s a strained elbow. There are a bunch of different things, surgery wise, that you CAN do in that region. We don’t know yet.On if the injury happened last season and was re-aggravated: No. It happened in the Atlanta game. My elbow has bothered me before. My bicep gets sore with camp arm. But once the season starts, it’s fine.On if there is a predetermined time when he’ll make the decision to have surgery: We’re going to give it time. We haven’t set a concrete date yet. I know we have an open date coming up. Just for myself, I want to know soon. I think I know my body pretty well, but we’ll see. I have to trust Ryan and those guys. They’ve been very up front with me. I trust them and we’re doing everything we can and we’re strengthening everything, so we’ll see.On if surgery would end his season: If I have one, yeah. I’m not having one soon so it would be toward the latter part of the season. Like I said, that’s a last resort type of deal. On if sitting out was difficult: It’s hard. There’s no doubt yesterday was tough. It was a division game. It’s Tampa. It was tough. I don’t think there’s any doubt.
John Fox interview:
On the status of quarterback Jake Delhomme: No (new updates). He's day-to-day. Again, it's hard to put time limits on injuries, right, wrong or indifferent. Even doctors can't predict the future. You rehab, and if that doesn't work you pursue other options. I don't know how else to say it, but that's where we are.On his comments last week that Delhomme would not require surgery: Immediately require surgery. There are always options. You have different opinions with doctors. We're spending a lot of time on something that you don't know and I don't know, and that's why it's day-to-day.On if Delhomme had a second opinion on his injured elbow: He had a second opinion. On if he saw the story on FOX Sports reporting that Delhomme would require surgery: No, I have no idea. I've been busy. I think late in the week Jake got put in that position and I'd really rather Jake focus on trying to get well.On what position he is referring to: As far as the options if rehab doesn't work out.On if the Panthers will bring in another quarterback to work out this week: Again, it's day-to-day. I can't say we will and I can't say we won't because I'm sure I'll hear about it.

"From RotoWorld:NFL Network's Adam Shefter reports"While nothing is ever a certainty, the guy is pretty spot on everything he reports. Common sense also tells me it's got to be a week 2 week thing. You don't have a sharp elbow pain and just bounce right back from it.

Adam Schefter of the NFL Network who's one of the best NFL reporters working today. And his report said the injury is worse than what the team is saying.
Delhomme was very upfront and honest about his thumb last year. There is no reason to believe he isn't being honest about his elbow.

As to whether Carr is a viable fantasy option - Harrington looked pretty bad in his first game and he has come around the last two weeks - I think Carr can also be a serviceable QB if given the reps in practice and game snaps. I think he gets better than last week.

I hope you're right. As a Smith owner, the alternative is pretty damn depressing.

Not only that, he didn't hit it on anything.. was just a passing attempt. Not good.

This is kind of what I'm hoping for. Just some jitters against TB.

That isn't true. His elbow got hurt when he was sacked by Abraham. He kept playing on it during the game, and the pain got worse until he couldn't stand it anymore.

Honestly it sounds like the Panthers are playing games. He's fine but he can't throw a football? Give me a break. If you're fine you play and if not you don't. Something's not right. Looking like it's time for me to make a move.

From Sportsline:

Jake Delhomme, QB CAR

News: Panthers QB Jake Delhomme hopes a rigorous rehabilitation program will allow him to avoid season ending surgery on his strained right elbow. A week after it was announced Delhomme would not need surgery, Delhomme acknowledged an operation is possible. Delhomme was injured when he was sacked by Atlanta's John Abraham. He sat out Sunday's 20-7 loss to Tampa Bay, when backup David Carr and the Panthers didn't cross the Buccaneers 45-yard line until late in the fourth quarter. Coach John Fox said last week an MRI showed no structural damage and indicated surgery was not needed. But on Monday he indicated he meant to say surgery wasn't immediately necessary. Later, he said doctors brought up surgery as a possibility after Delhomme had more tests late last week.

Anytime you look to get a second opinion is because you didn't like the first, this is not good (S. Smith owner) :sadbanana:

As a Steve Smith owner, :goodposting:

As a Houston Texans fan, :lmao: to Carolina for thinking Carr would be a good backup.

As someone who would like to see Carr succeed some day, my :hophead: is that playing is about the worst thing that could happen to Carr right now. Guy needs to stand on a sideline and get advice from someone who has had several years experience going through progressions and such, before he gets thrown back into the games.

Amazing, everyone talked about smith possibly being injury prone but didn't think about the QB when they selected Smith...geeez @#$% happens :banned:

Not all leagues are redrafts.Edit to add: Not to mention that there wasn't any particular reason to predict Jake Delhomme would get tackled by John Abraham and miss time, possibly having season ending surgery.

This might sound nuts to some, but after seeing Carr, Harrington is on a different level than him right now. Harrington is honestly better right now as a pure fantasy QB than quite a few QBs. Carr is utter garbage.

I agree. Trust me I have Delhomme and with the way QBs are either playing (Brees, McNabb, Lienart, Rivers, Green) or hurting (McNair, Shaub, Bulger, Delhomme) or out (Losman, Smith) having a reliable QB is a premium value right now.

I guess this means that the Panthers will lean more on Foster, particularly against the weak Saints defense.

I picked up Smith as my #1 WR with Wayne as my #2 and Houshmandzadeh as my #3 :banned: .

Then I thought I was pretty lucky to be able to pick up Delhomme and Eli late in the draft. I figured when Eli had a tough match-up Delhomme would be a great fill in. The first couple of weeks seemed to hold that theory up to the point that Delhomme might even eventually become my #1. Then the injury and Carr. Now I'm stuck with a QB that has shown himself to be inconsistent in past years (Eli) and a WR that is no longer getting any balls thrown his way because the QB can't manage to throw beyond 10 yards without getting sacked. :)

the only staring QBs left are reaches (Huard, McNair, Griese, T. Jackson, Garcia) and no viable WR left (I Bruce, Burleson, Battle) that would barely make it as my #3 WR.

My record is now 2-2 with the two losses coming in the last two weeks.

This is why I have a love/hate relationship with FF. In a way it's exciting to keep juggling things to try and make things better, but at the same time the frustration of a Delhomme injury (surgery, no surgery, feel good, day-to-day, etc etc).

AARRGGHH!

Keep us updated.TIA

The Panthers had a players only meeting yesterday. There are rumors (from reliable sources) of significant turmoil between some of the players. Between that and Delhomme's injury, label me concerned about Steve Smith this year. And I own him in 6 dynasty leagues. :(

Doesn't surprise me. Their defense isn't playing well and they have easily the worst starting QB in the league at the present time so everyone has to be wondering if the offense will score any points at all. The decision to bring in Carr as the backup QB could have huge ramifications on Fox's job status if he's the starter for an extended period of time. Could be a major housecleaning if the season goes in the toilet - which it likely will if Carr remains the starter.

I'm just hoping they get rid of Fox I've got Smith for 5 years and this team will be nothing but mediocre with him at the helm!!

I haven’t tried to throw.
This is the key quote in this interview. Jake is done for the year IMHO, bank it.
Possibly the way it pans out. You are correct that Delhomme has not attempted a pass since the injury. Vermillion favors waiting to attempt a return following the bye, too.
