Jake Delhomme this season (1 Viewer)

What are your thoughts on Jake Delhomme this season? He had a pretty huge week one with 201 yards and 3 passing TDs. Think he could throw 27-28 TDs this year?

My thought is that he's a solid QB2, but you'd better be stacked elsewhere if you're counting on him to be your QB1.

I liked him as a low QB1 or a high QB2 before the season and the first week doesn't change things. For me, his value is tied to Steve Smith's health. If Smith is 100%, then Delhomme is a decent option to have. If Smith is less than 100%, Delhomme should be avoided like the plague. He does appear to have a nice schedule this season and should put up some real nice games with SS going off.

You better be specific what you mean because if you mean you had better be stacked at other positions I can understand your logic but you can win a championship as Delhomme being your starting QB and not really have that strong of depth beyond him.

Think he played the Rams defense.

I also think the Panthers will struggle running the ball in the red zone and they'll try and pass it in. He'll probably end up doing better than I predicted he would.

where would you put delhomme's value compared to the likes of kitna or maybe V young?
Kitna>VY>JakeJake is only good in FF because he's got Steve Smith. Otherwise he'd be on the WW with Jason Campbell and T. Jackson.

The very first thing everyone should look at is Carolina's schedule. It is ridiculously easy. Because of that, I am very comfortable having stacked all my over positions to play Delhomme as my #1 QB.

Kitna>Delhomme>VYAs long as Delhomme has a healthy o-line and Smith, there is no reason to think he can't put up really good numbers. VY is still learning to throw to his WRs. The fact that he doesn't have legit threats only hurts him that much more. Kitna has a bad defense and really good weapons. He'll be chucking the ball early and often to stay in games...

Look at Carolina's schedule. They play some dog-crap defenses. With that schedule and as long as he and Smith stay healthy, I don't see why he won't be a top 10 QB.

Not at all surprised - still think 27-28 is a ceiling and wouldn't hold my breath on it, but he's a solid QB to have. lol @ the "Carr will take over by Week X" people. He's fine.

What I mean is that if Delhomme is your QB1 in a start-1 league, then you should expect to be outscored at the QB position most weeks. Easily 6, and comfortably 10 QBs will put up weekly average PPGs that will exceed Delhomme's.Therefore you need to be stacked at other spots, with guys that will normally be outscoring your opponents at their respective positions, if you want to win with Delhomme as your starting QB.

Or perhaps more to the point, Delhomme will be your weak link if he's your starting QB in a start-1 league.

FWIW, I have Delhomme in 1 of my 2 leagues, backing up Roethlisberger, and I'm quite comfortable with the situation.

If you take away 2 of those 3 touchdowns and 40 yards, his game was sub par.
And if you take away 24 of Ladanian Tomlinson's TD's last year, he had a sub par season. You can't take them away....risky logic.

If Delhomme plays all year he's top 12 easy, probably the lower end of the top ten. If you're playing him as your QB1 in, say, a 12 teamer you likely ARE stacked at other positions because you got him as one of the last "first QBs" available. Not much respect for Jake this past offseason. He hung around a long while in my leagues.

His schedule is shockingly easy vs. the pass(on paper) and that team has never really shown that it is a "run first" team anyway. Their best player is definitely Smith so Jake will get his. As mentioned, even without him that offense has put up large passing #s in the past.

In my main league a year ago Jake finished as QB20 while missing 3 games. Had he played all contests his FPPG would have had him right at QB10, within 10 points of being QB8 or QB13 respectively. Pretty much where I think he'll fall again this year: Anywhere from 8-12. He was drafted in the QB mid-teens in most of my leagues on teams that are loaded for bear, depthwise, at WR/RB. The rub is those teams don't have a whole lot to write home about behind Jake, but if he's healthy they should be in good shape.

Jake is probably going to be good value this year unless you totally ate paint chips and took him as the 7th QB off the board in your draft.

I think he was drastically undervalued because:

1. Carr was brought in - made people think Delhomme is on the way out.

2. The Oline last year lost over 30 games to injury. If memory serves both the tackle and guard on one side of the line were lost for almost the entire season. Delhomme was under a lot of pressure last year, combined with Smith losing time led to a really bad year. He should end up QB 10-15 range, and players in this range aren't that far behind QB7, making him a value pick for those that grabbed him.
