Jake Delhomme (1 Viewer)

How quick of a hook do you think the Panthers coaching staff has on Delhomme this year? I think he can be the same solid if unspectacular QB he's been the last two years, but obviously they didn't bring in Carr for nothing. What say you? Does Jake hold onto his starting job all year? What's the over/under on Carr getting a look (barring injuries)?

If he struggles, and the team struggles, he'll get benched.

He was awful last year. And in 2005 playoffs he cost them the game with a 15 for 35 3 int game.

I heard rumors they were tempted to take Quinn, but feel like they have a team that can compete so they passed. But Delhomme is on a short leash.

The shorter "leach" doesn't suck as much blood, I hear.

y0 momma.

He'll be the QB this year unless he gets injured. Throughout OTA's, he was consistently superior to David Carr (who was wildly inaccurate, but still learning the offense). Next year, all bets are off, but I imagine with a mended offensive line (3 or 4 starters missed significant time last year), new zone blocking scheme which word from camp is that the line was very favorable to it, and hopefully, better play from the RB's, then Delhomme should have some of the weight lifted off his shoulders. I expect a top 15 year for Delhomme this year with a most likely rating in the 12-14 range for starting QB's.

Interesting local update: Carr and Casey Mears played football together in HS....Carr was at a race recently and hung out in Casey's pit. According to Mears, Carr told him that he expects to play this year.

I don't think Jake is on a short leash at all. His struggles last year were not all his fault, and Jake isn't the reason the Panthers lost the 2006 NFC Championship game. The Panthers were down to one running back in that game with Jamal Robertson (after Nick Goings got a concussion in the first quarter and DeShaun was out with a broken ankle), the defense played like doo doo, and the Seahawks did a great job of covering Steve Smith by quadruple teaming him. The Seahawks tore them up on both sides of the ball.

Lots of missinformation here. Jake is the QB regardless. I dont forsee him having 2-3 bad games in a row. Last year the line was abysmal and he tried to do way too much, thus the reason for some interceptions. Carr is not even close to being the QB Jake is. What has he won? Jake has the drive to win. Carr was just brought in to be a backup, plain and simple. After watching the Weinke disaster they had to get somehting.

As for the Panthers looking at Quinn, that is just incorrect.

Carr was brought in to be a backup this season, and also to put some pressure on Delhomme, because he did not play well last year. I think Delhomme is fairly secure, but nowhere near as much as he has been in past years. I also think Carr will have a chance to compete next year unless Delhomme raises the level of his play. But this year, Delhomme would have to play bad to be replaced.
