Jalen Parmele, anyone? (1 Viewer)

Belief in Parmele could lead to a Willis McGahee trade

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on August 12, 2010 12:05 PM ETFor our next post, we present an interesting line from Jamison Hensley of the Baltimore Sun this morning.

"One reason why the Ravens might be willing to trade Willis McGahee is their growing confidence in running back Jalen Parmele, who should get a large number of carries in Thursday night's preseason opener," Hensley writes.

McGahee's salary -- $3.6 million in what will surely be the last year of his deal -- also makes McGahee a trade candidate, but tougher to move. Would a team like the Seahawks consider adding him at the end of camp?

McGahee has received kudos for a strong month to this point, but it wouldn't be a surprise to see him "showcased" for a possible deal. Parmele and fullback Le'Ron McClain could then handle all the work in Baltimore behind Ray Rice.

We know one guy that would welcome a few extra carries.

Is Hensley a reputable source?

The fact that Cam Cameron drafted Parmele originally seems to add some creedence.

Anyone have any insight into this?

Big Parmele fan, he just needs an opportunity. I'm going to be proactive and add him in my dyno now.

This is all speculation from a writer. No quotes or anything right? Maybe identikit should break this one on his own website

he's a size/speed guy with nifty feet (kick returner) and had good combine numbers

sometimes the small school guys just don't have the pedigree to be offered immediate opportunities and have to bide their time

McGahee being traded could be big too. :hifive:
 indeed.
Who could be possible takers for McGahee?
I suppose his salary could be a hinderance.Denver, possibly...Seattle, maybe (though Leon has been getting some good press of late). The next team with serious injury(ies) to their RBs...
The Saints are likely looking at available free agents and possible players that they can trade for after Lynell Hamilton went down with his torn ACL

Personal speculation - Unless Sean Peyton is 100% sold on P.J. Hill, the SAINTS would seem to be a very nice fit for Willis - and vice versa > goal line carries for New Orleans and solid veteran insurance for Bush & Thomas

I don't see the Ravens getting rid of McGahee who IIRC is in the last year of his contract. What are they gonna do with the extra money...sign some more DBs? McGahee is great insurance for Rice, understands the system well, and Baltimore is making a Super Bowl run. I would think if they wanted to trade McGahee that they would have done it already.

Baltimore still has vets like Heap even though they drafted two rookies, Clayton at WR despite bringing in some fantastic talent at the position, it really appears the Ravens want the veteran leadership so they can make a title run. I don't see them drifting towards a youth movement right now. They are loaded and ready to roll.

Now that I've posted that expect McGahee to be traded within 48 hours. Honestly I think he stays put, he fills a role for Baltimore.

Fair enough evaluation MOP....BUT let me give you the flip side.....they know what McClain can do, and if Parmele is impressing them then think about the number of carries/opportunities Rice will/won't get with Flacco given more weapons (Boldin and Stallworth) and more license to throw and to modify plays. IF Parmele can help they can satisfy Rice with more involvement in the total offense even as they shift to more of a passing team.......so IF they can get something useful for McGahee at this point they might well do it.

The writer started discussion of trade possibility with Denver yesterday before Fargas signing as Raven's depth is at RB/LB/WR . The wish list was for a starting corner and speculating that a package including McGahee and 1-2 others might net them one .Most beat writers play armchair GM .

Parmele has mostly been a special teams guy, only carried 4-5 times last year

Possible teams

NO seems like a stretch. They were perfectly happy to go with Bell/Hamilton the past two years- bringing in a guy who makes 3.6 mill when they didn't offer Pierre that much seems unlikely (unless Bush/Pierre went down). They seem like a scrap heap team for the #3 RB.

Sea- maybe, but they apparently didn't offer much for Lynch and have 3 backs if Washington is healthy. No need for them to rush- I wouldn't expect a trade soon.

My dark horse- NE. They are talking about cutting Taylor and if Morris/Maroney went down with a serious injury they could offer say a 4th for Mcgahee + 6th.

Per Rotoworld

Jalen Parmele carried the ball seven times for -7 yards against the Panthers in Thursday's preseason opener. He couldn't even run the ball when the Ravens went to a jumbo set, and he ended up losing a fumble that was returned for a touchdown. That performance isn't going to leave a potential Super Bowl contender comfortable shopping Willis McGahee.
 Nice post by the OP.
