Jamal Lewis vs Larry Johnson (1 Viewer)

Almost every mock draft I do has these two guys falling to the early 2nd round, and sometimes later in the 2nd. Both will be the focus of their teams offense, and should get close to 300 carries.

Niether of these two horses have any competition for carries. Lewis plays on a better offence, but has a BRUTAL schedule and a hammy issue. LJ will probably get more carries and a few more receptions, and the KC run schedule isn't bad at all....but KC has a putrid offence.

With those facts in mind....

Which of these guys do you like better this year? And why...

 
I thought this would garner more attention. I'm faced with this decision in a lot of drafts, and many of you may face it too. Wouldn't you like to know what others think before going into your draft?

 
LJ way before JLew. Lewis is old. I was surprised he did anything last year. Who is behind him? I see Cleveland airing it out alot.

Lewis is old, huh? So the 3 months difference in age between the 2 is a deal-breaker, right? They were both born in 1979, J. Lewis in August and LJ in November. Lewis just turned 29, LJ will turn 29 in mid November. Still amazes me how people post things like this without even bothering to check if what they are posting is accurate.

Was gonna say the exact same thing.I will say that JLew has over 2100 carries while LJ has 1050, so in that aspect he is quite a bit "older." But I like JLew on a better offense that will be able to dictate tempo over LJ mired in a pathetic offense.
 
Agreed, a lot of guys spout off before checking the facts.

And I take Jamal before Larry Johnson. Lewis has a terrific young offensive line anchored by Joe Thomas, who should be in the Pro Bowl for the next 10 years. There's no Willie Roaf, no Will Shields (future HOFers) in front of Johnson anymore, and no powerhouse FB like Tony Richardson either.

I was surprised and very pleased to get Jamal in the 3rd round of my 12-team draft to serve as my #2RB with Westbrook as my number 1 in the 4th slot.

 
I like Lewis over LJ. Better OL, better O in general. LJ still has the big name and people will continue to overpay for him, some still taking him in the 1st round while many will pass over Lewis for a top tier WR.

 
Actually think this is very close to a coin flip. It is easier watching JLew though, as it seems LJ needs 30 carries to get 90 yards with that line.

 
While I agree that it may be closer than a lot of people believe, I would choose LJ if deciding between the two. Jamal has twice the amount of carries that LJ does, and has had 2 major knee injuries. I am thinking that could be the reason people are referring to Lewis as "old", rather than simply actual age.

What I have been finding in my drafts is that you can get Lewis a round and a half or more later than LJ. By skipping on LJ in the 2nd, you can select a WR1 and still wind up with comparable RB2 stats in either the 3rd or 4th round.

My vote is for JLew. Talent is similar and the Cleveland offense is way better than KC's. I'm assuming we are talking redraft here. In a redraft, forget about mileage and get the one on the better O.

 
Tomlinson is older and has a lot more carries then Lewis, and he is the consensus #1. Take carries with a grain of salt.

Probably will be in the 10 of RBs at seasons end regarding #of carries. I don't care if he comes out on 3rd downs as long as he's involved in the red zone.

Based off mocks and actual drafts Lewis is also cheaper

LJ might be more talented but this is fantasy football not real football

Lewis has more in his favor from a fantasy drafting perspective

Both are workhorses although LJ will get more touches due to his receiving ability. LJ has a much better schedule, Jamal has the better line, LJ has the better talent at this point. If you look at the stats from last year Lewis tore up the softies and he doesn't have nearly as many on the schedule this year. I think LJ finishes 5-6 spots above Lewis.

LJ has more upside but Lewis is a safer bet running behind one of the best O-lines in football. Lewis may be a better value b/c you can get him in rounds 3 or 4, but LJ won't slip past the second.

I think last year was more of a sign of what's to come for LJ. His OL just isn't what it used to be. Their offense can't come close to giving LJ the scoring opportunities that the Browns will give Lewis. I see him with a lot of 25 carries for 90 yds games with no Tds.

Opportunity is a huge factor for RBs. They both get a ton of carries, but Lewis has the better offense, better OL by a BIG MARGIN, and that leads to more scoring chances.

 
Last year the Chiefs signed LJ to one of the richest contracts ever for a RB after a lengthy holdout. And he then went on to get injured and have a down year. I think KC is going to get their money's worth this year and run LJ into the ground. Jamal Lewis still has some gas left in the tank but LJ is a beast. LJ is a great value in Round 2, but I wouldn't touch Jamal until round 3/4.

 
No matter who you like better... don't take Jamal in the 2nd round. He should be a 3rd rounder and you're not getting value for him in the 2nd.

I drafted from the 11 spot and took Moss in 1, LJ in the second and Lewis in the third.

I like JLewis but look at that schedule this year!!! OUCH...he won't do as well as last year. JLewis has the better off team and better O-line but I think there's more upside to LJ. LJ is well rested with a new OC who loves to run...no holdout either this year....something to prove and has less mileage than JLewis in career carries...

 
They are comparable this season, because of draft position. You will have to spend a late 1st rounder or early second on LJ realistically. JLewis is a few to several picks later. So, for that reason I see them as equals. Now, draft positon aside I think LJ has Lewis edged. As the EvilOutsider said, you saw LJ's floor and JLewis' ceiling last season. I actually like LJ better because of the fact that Cleveland's offense is better, contrary to the other posters. If you see/hear that the Chiefs scored on the FOX ticker, you can feel pretty good that it's LJ. On the other hand if you hear the same for the Browns, is it going to read Braylon, Winslow, Stallworth, etc. Are there enough TD's to go around?
