James Jones UFA next year (1 Viewer)

If I'm looking at this right, James Jones will be an unrestricted FA next year. Any whispers/rumors on where the Packers stand on possibly extending him or is it likely that he will no longer be in their long-term plans? As a dynasty owner, I'm not really sure what to make of this guy as a long-term hold - and I'm not entirely convinced that Donald Driver has received the memo that he's supposed to let Jones replace him!

Back with the Pack in 2011?

With Driver ailing, he'll have opportunities the next few weeks and, depending on what he does with them now, will determine his future, IMHO.

He's probably going to be looking for a payday and I'm sure some team will project him as a starting WR and pay him on the low scale of #1 WRs. Kinda how David Givens got a payday the same way years back. I doubt the Packers match any kind of offer and I think they'll be OK with Jordy as their #3 WR ready to take over Driver's spot whenever he retires.

I figure he'll be foolishly loyal and accept (far) less to continue to play for the Packers instead of going out and pulling in a truckload of money on the open market.

Not sure where the David Givens comparison comes from, Jones has done very very well with the opportunity given to him and it's no disrespect to sit behind Driver and Jennings.

As a player James Jones and David Givens don't necessarily compare, but the situation does.

And David Givens did very well with his opportunities in New England, that's what got him paid. Then he went to a lesser situation, got hurt, and flamed out. He wasn't exactly tearing it up before he got hurt anyways.

And most Packers fans will tell you James Jones has gone through bouts of fumbles and drops in between some flashes of being a good player, so how well he's done with his opportunities is debatable.

Gotcha, that's a fair point

I'd have to guess Thompson would try hard to resign him. He hasn't done a whole lot so his asking price shouldn't be that high. Plus Ted likes to keep his own guys.

I wonder if his recent "James Jones needs the ball more" comments are a hint of his desire to get out of the shadows of Jennings/Driver/Finley next year. You've got to believe someone will be willing to give him more money and a chance at a starting job - it would be hard to turn that down.

How will be unrestricted at the end of this year? This is his 4th season. He would be restricted.

Well, Blackmon is not even on the team, neitehr is Barbre.

There is no Tyrone Williams but Tramon will be a UFA (they have been in talks with him and supposedly offered him something close to what Harris got).

And I don't think Hawk will be a UFA...I think he has another year left with a huge bonus that he won't likely see (though, he is playing better these days, I figure he gets renegotiated).

Agreed...if he keeps dropping balls though, I don't see some huge pay day.If he is a UFA, I see Ted offering a lower but fair deal for him and he may think he is worth more (and someone might pay him) so he would test out the market.

The link is from August, so while it's not a current list of guys on the team, you would think the info regarding Jones being a UFA is factual. Good catch on Tramon, though, that's a definite typo on their part. If you click on the link, you'll also notice that they put the disclaimer in on Hawk being a "free agent" due to the fact that his $10M price tag next year will essentially void his contract - so they basically included him in the mix as well since the writing's on the wall.

ahh...hadn't clicked the link. Not sure what they will do with Hawk. The way he has played recently next to Bishop, they might be playing Barnett out of a job.

I agree with sho nuff here.James Jones has been shown the bench twice already this season due to his inconsistent play. Why? Bad drops, a fumble in the last few minutes of a game that cost them a win, and another play where if he'd have put in even a decent effort, he could have broken up an interception. His four seasons with the Packers have been dominated by inconsistency. He's not going to break the bank in GB. Some other team may look at his flashes of good play and over pay him. That would be my best guess. My feeling after watching him his entire pro career is that he doesn't have the talent to be anybody's WR1. If he could ever become more consistent he could line up as a respectable WR2.

So says rotoworld. Nelson pretty much played in place of Driver last week as well once Driver left the game. I swapped Jordy in at the last minute.... which means James Jones will go slap off.

is nelson starting over jones?
Jordy Nelson-WR- Packers Nov. 7 - 7:30 pm et Jordy Nelson, not James Jones, will start in Week 9 in place of the injured Donald Driver.Jones has more upside than Nelson, but he's also had problems with drops and is coming off a catchless game last week, while Nelson had five grabs for 55 yards. Expect both players to be on the field quite a bit.Source: Green Bay Press-GazetteRelated: James Jones

Jones sucks...he will be replaced by some draft pick. No need to waste money on him.
And that's why they will probably keep him on that TD.
WTF are you talking about?
James Jones...the guy that just scored? He is not great...but doesn't just suck.
You claim to follow the Packers. So please report back to us how Jones has done this season, his drops and how Thompson handles keeping a player like that instead of replacing that player with a draft choice.
