James Jones (1 Viewer)

grind

Footballguy
I've heard a lot about this James Jones character. Since it is preseason, it is very hard to differentiate between real stuff and fluff. That said, any Packer insiders/homers/fans/etc have any idea as to what role Jones will play on this years team? Any chance of beating out Jennings for the #2 WR job? Is he definitely the #3, assuming he doesn't start? I'm thinking Green Bay may pass enough to warrant some consideration for their #3 WR. Thoughts and opinions please. Thanks.

I don't see him beating out Jennings but he's looked good in camp and should lock down the No. 3 WR job. Given how his main competition is Ferguson (who pretty much sucks) it'd be a huge disappointment if Jones couldn't be the No. 3 WR. The Packers have a lot of bodies in camp at WR but precious little talent at the position.

He's already locked up the #3 position. Jennings is the deep man so I don't see him beating him out. Jones and Driver are possession receivers and need Jennings to compliment them (stritch the field). That being said I think he will see a lot of 3rd down and goal line targets as he is always open.

Favre said, "he reminds me of Sterling Sharpe."

He's been catching everything they throw to him. So, I think the chemistry between him and Favre is growing, however last night when the 1st string offense was struggling (and Jones was in the game) Favre began looking at Driver and threw to Jennings once on a miscommunication.

If you're going to draft Jone, do not play him vs a 3-4 defense (I know they play SD week 3) or against any other top pass defenses.

Otherwise, I think he's just as good a late round sleeper as anyone else(Except for David Boston that is). He could possibly catch 3-4 balls as a bye week filler, and like the other poster I expect many of his catches to come in the red zone so a TD isn't completely out of the question either.

As someone that's followed Camp, Family Night and the first preseason game, I think it's safe to say the hype for Jones is nowhere near the hype for Jennings of a year ago. Jones has looked good, but he has ZERO chance of taking over for Jennings, imo, as an earlier poster asked.

If my math is correct, all 8 of Jones' targets last night came from Aaron Rodgers. 4 of those were in the 2 minute drive before half. Those two seem to have a good connection going. Rodgers has looked really good this preseason which I think is of note in this and any other Green Bay wr thread. It seems to me that the biggest dynasty knock on Driver, Jennings and now Jones has always been..."what happens when Favre retires?". Granted, it's a small sample of meaningless games and practices, but Rodgers certainly seems ready and able to step in to the starters spot in the near future.

The Packers gave Ferguson some early looks with the 1's last night, fwiw, but from a production standpoint, it certainly seems as if Jones has already locked up the #3 job. It'll be interesting to see how Jones and Rodgers respond when given more of a chance to play with and against the 1's.

Jones will win the #3 job for Green Bay. Ferguson sucks. But Jones won't be a viable WR3/4 for fantasy purposes until 2009, unless Driver/Jennings get injured.

Biggest concern with owning Jennings or Jones: how does Aaron Rodgers perform once Favre steps down?

They will all likely improve, Favre is washed up

If you have Jennings or Driver grab Jones. I did in a recent draft I did in the last(18th) round. If they don't he may be a good slot receiver. With Rodgers they'll be fine. Fewer broken fingers.
