Jane Came By With A Lock Of Your Hair (1 Viewer)

My imploring isn't so much to get people to listen, it's just a shirt I saw somewhere and this song always gets stuck in my head.

It's four in the morning/the end of December
I'm writing you now/just to see if you're better
New York is cold, but I like where I'm living
There's music on Clinton St. all through the evening
.

fyp.

and if yer going to Cohen up the joint- beard or otherwise- it's customary to put up the @krista4 bat signal

Jane says, "I'm done with Sergio"
He treats me like a ragdoll"
She hides the television
Says, "I don't owe him nothing, but if he comes back again
Tell him to wait right here for me or,
Try again tomorrow I'm gonna kick tomorrow
I'm gonna kick tomorrow"

My sweet Lady Jane
When I see you again
Your servant am I
And will humbly remain

Just heed this plea my love
On bended knees my love
I pledge myself to Lady Jane

My dear Lady Anne
I've done what I can
I must take my leave
For promised I am

This play is run my love
Your time has come my love
I pledge my troth to Lady Jane

Oh my sweet Marie
I wait at your eaves
The sands have run out
For your lady and me

Wedlock is nigh my love
Her station's right my love
Life is secure with Lady Jane

Ah, the last time we saw you you looked so much older
Your famous blue raincoat was torn at the shoulder
You'd been to the station to meet every train, and
You came home without Lili Marlene
And you treated my woman to a flake of your life
And when she came back she was nobody's wife

Well I see you with the rose in your teeth
One more thin gypsy thief
Well, I see Jane's awake
She sends her regards

Seeing the Coach Beard reference, was this on Ted Lasso too?

Watching this week’s Succession and Alan Ruck does karaoke of FBR.

"Everybody Knows" was played one episode. Looked it up. That's what I thought PIK95 was referring to.

I still have no idea what this thread is about. I thought Coach Beard because of crazy girlfriend Jane

This is the occasional rockaction thread about nothing but whatever flew into his mind. It's about Leonard Cohen and how "Famous Blue Raincoat" gets stuck in my head and won't leave me for days because of the melody line of "And Jane came by with a lock of your hair"

Elton John cribbed it for one of his songs, and the similarity has never left me. Cohen's was '71, I'd assume John's was later. It think it's "Little Jeannie" or something like that. Totally cribs the melody from the Jane line and uses it throughout his own song.

Thanks, for the trouble you took, from her eyes
I thought it was there for good, so I never tried

and, Jane came by with a lock of your hair
she said that you gave it to her
that night that you planned to go clear

Sincerely, L. Cohen

Ah, ok. Thought maybe it had shown up in both, which would have been pretty coincidental.

Anyway, the Succession scene with it made me laugh. Maybe one of those things where need the context, but if you can imagine a depressed character going to a karaoke bar and belting out Famous Blue Raincoat…

I'm a fan but was kinda late to Cohen. Completely unaware of him until the Pump Up the Volume movie which used a cover of Everybody Knows. So glad it did.

I don't think I even know a Leonard Cohn song fwiw. Always thought that was the guy that played Spock.
You probably know the song Hallelujah. Maybe.
I think I read somewhere that he wrote something like 75 verses for that song, never performed or recorded all of them together.
Yep. The lyrics of Cohen's recording weren't in the liner notes, so when John Cale decided to cover it, he asked Cohen if he could send him the lyrics. Cohen sent him the whole thing and Cale picked and chose his favorite verses, which were different from the ones on Cohen's recording. Jeff Buckley's version uses the Cale version's lyrics.

I checked that out. It was funny without context.

"Can we put on Desperado?"

Or something like that. LOL.
That was funny because Roman said what I was thinking. Never heard that song before, and just assumed it was some random rich guy tune they were using to make Conner seem even more out of touch. Huh.

That Jeff Buckly song yall wouldn't shut up about when he passed? I think I saw someone do that on American Idol back in the day. Meh.

he really nailed this cover, too ... although with an unfortunate lyric passage of "the sea wants to take me ... "

28 yr ann'y of that live performance.

Speaking of coach Beard, they did Nightclub Jitters on his Lasso feature episode which was way cooler than your guy here with the pointy ears tune. FWIW, Lasso usually has some good tunes.

Y'all? I like Leonard's original better than Buckley's, but I think more people feel the opposite.

Ah, yes. Nothing like a new RA thread immediately veering off topic right before a long weekend. Life is good, fellas.

ETA: @PIK95 your Spock quip was fun.

I meant Y'all? as in I wasn't part of the people talking about Jeff Buckley's version when he passed. I definitely use the term Y'all. Do Rhode Islanders say Youse Guys? My friend from PA says Yinz.
