Jason Taylor rejoins Dolphins

Associated Press

MIAMI. Jason Taylor has rejoined the Miami Dolphins.

Taylor's agent, Gary Wichard, says the 34-year-old linebacker signed a $1.5 million, one-year contract today with Miami.

Taylor played his first 11 seasons with Miami before being traded to the Washington Redskins. He was released by Washington last winter after one injury-plagued season.

Taylor could give Miami's pass rush a much-needed boost at outside linebacker opposite Joey Porter, who led the AFC with 17.5 sacks last year.

The New England Patriots courted Taylor, but he wanted to return to Miami so he could be close to his family during the season.

Taylor was the NFL Defensive Player of the Year for the Dolphins in 2006.

Obviously, being signed to a team will merit him a ranking at least. But, where? If healthy, he's still probably one of, if not the best pure pass rusher Miami has. With Merling, Porter, and Roth taking some of the pressure off him, I'm thinking he could immediately revert to 2007 form. Thoughts?

Hard to see him as more than a situational rusher. And he's clearly not fully invested in football any more. The rumbles about his post-NFL entertainment career, lack of interest in offseason conditioning programs and now choosing to play close to home all call into question his motivation. And he's highly likely to be listed as a LB now, which will also hold his value down in most leagues. He'd be a late consideration for me in big play heavy leagues, but won't make my top 60 FBG rankings at LB.
