Javon Ringer - Keep an eye on him (1 Viewer)

Smells like chicken
I always thought Ringer had the "one-cut" look to him a tema like Denver (LOL) or Houston would be looking for:

from PFT:

A couple of running backs might be moving in different directions on the draft board after this week’s Pro Day workouts.

The prospects could be rising for Michigan State’s Javon Ringer. Per a league source, 24 teams were represented at his Wednesday workout in East Lansing.

He improved his times in the 40-yard dash from 4.50 and 4.53 seconds to 4.42 and 4.47 seconds.

He generated a 6.68 and a 6.75 in the three-cone drill, 3.72 and 3.83 in the short shuttle, and 10.92 in the 60-yard shuttle.

Ringer’s slower three-cone time was still 0.07 seconds faster than the best result generated by a running back at the Scouting Combine.

He didn’t re-do the bench press, vertical, or broad jump, resting on his Combine results.

We’re told that Ringer has a handful of workouts scheduled for the next two weeks and four team visits set for April.

In contrast, Pitt’s LeSean McCoy could be on the way down.

He didn’t work out at the Combine due to an illness, so it placed even more pressure on him at the Pro Day event.

According to Tony Pauline of SI.com, McCoy ran the 40-yard dash in the low 4.5s.

Writes Pauline: “Scouts have said McCoy is skinny up top and may not have the body type to take an every-down pounding at the next level. McCoy likely watched whatever slim chance he had of being a first round pick vanish this week.”

Did he run on a conveyor belt?
LOLI always though Ringer would be a solid back in the right system. But I thought his measurables would make him a day2 pick. He probably still is, but to me after watching alot of his college career, he is a taylor made zone blocking scheme back

i see a group of 4 or 5 backs outside of the top 4 that could end up as pretty good fantasy backs...this class seems to be getting stronger, but I'm not gonna make any knee jerk reactions based off pro days. If Pro Day performance=draft picks/opportunities, then Jackie Battle would have been a 1st round pick

Who would be those 4 or 5 backs? Any examples?
glad you asked to get me thinking about it more, it's probably not 4 or 5. Actually 2 then 3. I knew it was more than a few. I think there is some value here. Based off Bloom's rankings, which are similar to what I've seen from research. Most drafts today would look something like this:GreeneJenningsPeermanA. BrownGoodsonI like Jennings as the best 'value' of this bunch. Peerman, Brown, and Goodson appear at those spots or near them on most peoples rankings. I am not sure I like any of the latter 3 at the value they are going to come off in drafts (if they happened today). Unless they end up in decent situations. Actually where it gets interesting when the wildcards start to come in:Bloom has: Gartrell, Ringer, and Bernard Scott coming off his board next. I kind of agree, but Ringer may have leaped up into the next tier. I also think the following guys are right there (and it's never set in stone):Ian Johnson James DavisTyrell SuttonSheetsJeremiah JohnsonDevin MooreJavarris WilliamsCoffeeA. FosterI could see any of those guys producing in some sort of role if they fall into a good situation.

Thanks Loose Circuits - I have some late 2nd and early 3rd round rookie picks in a 16 team league so am hoping to be able to pick up some backs that are not the top few names.

From all accounts Ringer has excellent character and he played through an injury last season. In the right situation he's the type of player that can easily move up some fantasy draft boards. At this time last season Mel Kiper had him as the top RB prospect, so it's not like he came out of nowhere to make a name for himself at the combine.

Mid-season, there were threads calling Ringer a top 10 dynasty rookie and a sure-fire 1st rounder. Back then, I was arguing that he was being overrated, but by this point I'm certain he's being underrated.

Thoughts on this guy vs. Dallas last night. To me, he showed:

1) excellent burst,

2) good balance, and

3) great hands (esp. on an off-target throw from Collins, I think).

I would love to draft him and bury him on my bench for dynasty, but I don't think I have enough room. Any chance this guy has value this season? I guess I just don't see much of an opportunity for him in Tennessee this year... But I did think he looked really good (and Buck/Aikman were fawning all over him). What did you guys see?

I would love him for dynasty. He may not be in a perfect situation due to opportunity and the fact that he'll be 2nd fiddle to CJ. On the plus side he goes to a coach who loves to run, had a very successful RBBC last year and White is gone next year IMO so he'll be the #2 next year at the latest. I know he was playing against some softer defenses for some of it but this week and last week he looked dynamite. Strong, fast, and has nice hands. He and Chris Johnson could be a ridiculous combination if he is as good as he looks. This was Week 1

I wasn't as high on this guy as some other folks were. In his final year at Michigan State he posted huge numbers against bad teams, but was rather pedestrian against good teams.
