JAX - Jimmy Smith retires! (1 Viewer)

I wonder had he announced this before the draft if the Jags would have tried to trade for Javon Walker.

Maybe there is another #1 WR out there that could be acquired (Lelie?) as I am not so sure about Wilford being a #1.

If nothing else, Jax will present a very tall receiving corp - with 6'5" Leftwich throwing to 6'4" Wilford, 6'4" Williams, 6'6" Jones, and 6'6" Lewis.

Maurice Drew will stick out like a sore pinky in the huddle.

Spike - you might want to edit your title. ;)

As much as I enjoy this board, the "evaluate my trade" stuff has a better place.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I'm not sure why you think I should edit the title!?!?!I don't own any of the JAX WRs in any league I'm in, nor am I targeting any of them.

see the " ;) " Just one of my pet peeves, a thread starts about a player retiring, next thing you know, there's pages of trade evaluations and "bump up X" posts.

With me, I was wondering who would be the WR1 for JAX from an NFL (not FFL) perspective because I really don't see a WR1 on the roster.

Just wondering, totally hypothetically of course...

What would you do with an owner who sends out offers of Jimmy Smith for a pick to almost every owner in the league?

(before you ask, no, I don't have JS in any league, someone does)

Pound on him for being an unethical jerk.

'I have one too! :lmao:

I just posted the retirement story on the front page of the league site. Can't make a trade without seeing that headline.

That said many thought that he would return to the team for the 2006 season as the Jaguars' top WR while younger receivers Matt Jones and Ernest Wilford continue to develop.

:reggiewilliamsowner:  :bag:

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I chuckled at that part as well.

I was able to get Reggie Williams at the end of the 18th round and at 23 years old I still think he has time to develop. Wilford is already 27 so it's no surprise that he'd be farther along even though they both were drafted in 2004.

This is a complete shock to me.

I hate to say it, but it wouldn't shock me to see that illegal drugs were involved again.
I don't think that is the case as word around Jags ville is he was contemplating it at the end of last season. Del Rio told him to think about it this off-season before making a decision and blamo. We'll know more after his press conference at 1:00 pm today.

Trading dishonestly is frowned upon in my leagues. Not illegal but the commish (me) might not allow the trade.

:) I was somewhat looking forward to the fallout if one of the offers had been accepted.

I was too, but I didn't want to to set Raptors off on a tizzy as the commish.

 I think he would have enjoyed it.

I just traded for horn to solidify my starters for the season, Horn, Jimmy Smith, and Terry Glenn...Good thing i have wilford to back up smith. If Horn pulls this crap i'ma be pissed unless my devery henderson backup makes a nice jump :wall:

I'd give a heads up to the Bettis owner to have him offer him up in return.

Someone in a Keeper/Dynasty League I am in recently bought Smith for 2.5 mil.

:lmao:

Yeah I shouldn't mock it but it's still pretty funny b/c it wasn't me. :excited:

I'd better watch it or someone important to me in that league will probably be decapitated in karmic response....

Smith, at his press conference today: "It's best to go out on top."

His team lost in the wild card round of the playoffs.

He had 8 seasons in which he had more catches than in 2005.

He had 8 seasons in which he had more yards than in 2005.

He had 7 seasons of more (or the same amount of) TDs than in 2005.

On top???

He is a HoF. MUCH better in his prime than Jerry Rice was (I wouldn't say he was as good as Tim Brown though)

How many players retire after back to back 1,000 yard seasons? If not for his 4 game suspension in 2003, he would have 10 straight 1,000 yard seasons.

As it is, he's averaged 63 ypg over the last 10 years.

Only missed one game plus the suspension over that time.

I'd say he went out, if not "on top" pretty close to it.
