ESPN SportsNation survey names Cutler "Least Likeable"

I dislike Cutler every bit as much as anyone. But, to dislike him more than a rapist and a dog killer? Damn...even I didn't think being a brooding, pouting punk was that bad.
That's what I was thinking. Ben out raping underaged girls, players drunk driving killing folks and Vick killing animals viciously. How in the hell is Cutler the least liked? Good Lord...

This poll ranks right up there alongside the Dewey beats Truman Headline

Just b/c the media spoonfeeds a certain narrative and some 'knuckleheads' that need to be told what they must believe go ahead and log onto ESPN and regurgitate what they've been taught, doesn't mean it's an accurate picture of football fandom.

Well at least outside of the 'knuckleheads' anyways, the majority of 'knuckleheads' probably think they're supposed to dislike Cutler more than convicts and alleged rapists...

Vick and Roethlisberger had better seasons than Cutler. Sadly, that's the legitimate explanation.

That's part of it. I also think Geoff8695's reason is most of it though. The media doesn't like Cutler, so they paint him out in a certain light. Highlighting stories about his "body language" or his "facial expressions" whilst minimizing other positive aspects (his restraint in throwing his surrounding cast under the bus, his positive work in the community - of which there is a lot, the fact that he is working on his footwork several times a week every week to correct his poor throwing mechancics, etc.) Sadly, people believe the media-painted picture more than the real person.

Add to that, Vick and Roethlisberger are so yesterday. People have moved on. Cutler is the flavor of the day. Recency effect.I don't buy the "media hates Cutler" argument. Maybe the Chicago media do, because they're around them. The national guys, though...they don't have enough data points with him. The fact is, Cutler is unusual in how he comports himself, and it does come off to outsider eyeballs as though he doesn't give a damn about what he does. Even if his mental approach doesn't jive with his body language, the latter is what people see, and I don't think anyone can deny...his body language sucks. So, people make interpretations (i.e., he doesn't care, he's a quitter, he's soft, etc.). It's not hate--certainly not from the national media. It's just that he's an unusual dog.

But, I'd still root for him before I ever rooted for Vick or Big Ben.

Cutler isn't well-liked at all, but yeah, these results are more about the timing than anything else. Had last week's NFC title game happened a year ago and Roethlisberger's problems happened last week, Roethlisberger would be winning this by a large margin. It is all about timing.

Cutler can take comfort from this poll. If Roethlesberger can wash away his grotesque behavior in nine months by playing well and pretending to be nice, Cutler should be able to as well. He really has to play well, however. This manufactured slander against his toughness has put him on a much shorter leash.

There's no "case" to be made. It's a Grade II MCL tear, not a broken leg.

Rick Rielly down?

#1 ignorance must be bliss: a grade II MCL injury doesn't prevent one from walking around, nor does it require crutches or limping to get around...#2 You already indicated that you are going to believe what you want to about Cutler based on his "appearances" (I'ld link to your post here, but unfortunately the recent thread about "Cutler's injury had better be a serious one" has already been purged from existence - boy that was fast!), and now you are using anything no matter how weak or irrelevant to justify yourself... Are you sure really a Switz alias?

I don't doubt he has an MCL strain, but while it's not as severe as a broken leg, it's very painful nonetheless. To each his own, but I wouldn't be going out to eat with my famous girlfriend the same night that my team was knocked out of the playoffs after I tore a ligament in my knee. It just seems like a bad idea and bad judgement on his part.

I guess we will just have to disagree. Not an Alias of Switz: he and I disagree pretty often TBH. I was just sharing video of the injured star walking around without a limp less than a week after he couldn't play because I thought people might want to see. I didn't really make an argument per se.

I find it sad that two of the most storied franchises in NFL history are about to square off for the Lombardi trophy, yet the biggest "story" is Cutler.

Walking around <> can play NFL football - especially the QB position. There are plenty of 80 year old men that can walk slowly after their wives in a shopping mall. I don't want any of them QBing my team in the NFC Championship game either. I'm sure Yahoo appreciates you acting as a shill for some silliness they hope someone will mistaken for "news" on the subject. BTW, posting a link to a video and then stating "This video doesn't strengthen your case" is arguing...per se - especially when you specifically bold (i.e. call out) the part of the post you are arguing with.

Keep up the fine work.

That's ESPN for ya. They'd rather talk about a controversy (or blow up one far past the point of what it really is) non-stop than focus on just a big game. And with Favre now retired (probably  ), they need a new guy to focus on all of the time for such things.
