Jeff Fisher out (1 Viewer)

A lot of good coaches available. Dynasty owners may want to buy low for guys on coachless teams or teams with coaches who will be on the hot seat next year and hope for some big turnarounds.

Curious, guessing he won't be a coach in 2011. Have to think under contract, if he is, he may have some restitution to pay the titans if he signs a deal immediately??

Too late for him now to find anything for next year. All the head coaching vacancies are filled, and I think all of the Defensive Coordinator spots are too, aren't they?

I assume he'll just take a year off, get some media gig, and wait for the Houston job (or something similar) to open up in 2012.

Right now they are yes, but who's to say that a team won't replace someone who was sorta on the hot seat with Fisher knowing he's now available. I wouldn't be surprised if Indy takes a look. Maybe Detroit will decide on a new D coordinator?

After firing Fisher's former teammate on the Bears, Chuck Cecil they've been interviewing DCs- There were recent interviews with Eric Mangini who always seems to stir stuff up so I'm curious about that. Dave McGinnis was their assistant head coach and he was interviewed for DC or chatted about it.

I bet this will quickly be a house cleaning as guys follow Fisher.

OC Heimerdinger's family "has to" be telling him to retire.

OL coach Mike Munchak is excellent. That guy is crazy if he doesn't go to the highest bidder. One could totally argue that Munchak and Washburn (DL coach now signed to Eagles) get credit for Titans success.

Fisher wasn't that successful. I think he's a good coach but it seems like he's getting a pass on some pretty poor seasons.
It's that they always let these quality free agents walk and seem to give him some fourth string guy to replace a pro bowler with.He doesn't draft and while it's common in the NFL it seems more apparent with him than any other. They have two tackles that are excellent and neither was a high pick for tackles. Finnegan was a 7th rounder. It's like he had to make something out of nothing more often than most coaches.

I think he's the most over rated coach in the NFL. Only thing really special about him is that he was able to keep the job for this long.

16 years and only 1 SB appearance with zero SB wins

Only two winning seasons in the last 7 years.

Have not won a single playoff game since 2003.

Routinely owned by the Colts and instead of figuring out a way to compete against them for the division he just donned a Peyton jersey instead.

I just don't see what the big fuss is all about. I think he'd be a solid hire for a routinely crappy team like the Bills because he's shown a great knack for at least putting an average team together but I don't see why he would inspire SB aspirations for a fan base.

Fisher was 36 when he was promoted from Oilers defensive coordinator to interim head coach in November 1994. He was named the head coach in January 1995, and went 142-120 (.542) in his 16-plus regular seasons with the Oilers/Titans. Fisher is 5-6 in the playoffs, with one Super Bowl trip after the 1999 season, four division titles and six postseason bidsjust adding to what you wrote. However, he does have a winning record overall (cant say the same for Norv Turner) and is well respected around the league despite struggling the last few years.

Fisher isn't taking a coordinator job folks. He'll sit out, probably do a media gig, and take his top choice of jobs in the next year or two.

as awesome as that would be, it's not happening.I would enjoy seeing Schwartz and Fisher back together.

He's above average but just good enough to keep his job. He did everything fairly well but nothing more than that. I like the guy enough but the Titans will be fine without him. I'm just not happy that they waited this long - although they probably weren't getting Harbaugh anyway. While I'd love to see Gruden or Cowher come to Nashville, I expect to see Gregg Williams in town. ETA: IIRC, he's conservative on offense and knows defense well, which would suit Adams.

Glad I'm not a Titans fan. They will stink for years now. Poor Bud Adams is trying before he dies. I guess I can't blame him.

If McGinnis is assistant head coach then Munchak will be nothing like hiring a guy like Mike Tice. That could work.I saw Williams and Singletary were tweeted and both were followed up with others saying they would want to clear that with their friend, Fisher, first.

After the Browns and Jets, I don't see why anyone would hire Mangini.

Couple interesting tweets were that Bud Adams had no idea this happened and that Washburn wouldn't have left for the Eagles unless he knew Fish was leaving.

This isn't all that surprising. Must have been hard for Fisher to stay after the issues surrounding Young/Adams, if he felt he couldn't trust the owner it was for the best. As many say it's not like he won't find work elsewhere.

Whawho?
I thought he was on Bears as was Fisher. It was the Pack. I'm kinda shocked by that. I read it a few times and have just been repeating...for years. duh! Sorry
Fisher played for the Bears and only the BearsChuck Cecil and Jeff Fisher not only never played on the same team, they never played in the league during the same season. Fisher last played in '84, Cecil's rookie year was '88

Mangini needs to go back to being as asst coach for a while and then earn his way back.

I don't think anyone assumes Fisher will try and be an asst anywhere but as an owner no matter what I had already done I would eat that contract to get Fisher on board. Especially one of the dog teams because Fisher might not win a Super Bowl for you but he will make you respectable quickly.

Shame for Fisher and the Titans as both kind of lose out by the process taking so long. Any chance someone involved in the Super Bowl is on a short list? A Pitt asst, or GB asst?
