Panthers | J. King to see some work at fullback - from www.KFFL.com

Pat Yasinskas, writing for the Sporting News, reports Carolina Panthers rookie TE Jeff King will get some work at fullback in training camp. He could earn some playing time at the position, if he shows he can handle the blocking assignments. Starting FB Brad Hoover has had a heavy workload the last few years, and the team would like to keep him fresh by letting King take up some of the blocking responsibilities.

Seems to me I read in Coyle's Predraft guide he could be a good starting TE eventually. Good H-back type player. Gentle hands, good receiver and deep sleeper. I drafted him with the hopes that he could earn the starting spot at TE as Carolina are are shallow at that position. This sounds like he would be used more as a fullback. What is the difference between a fullback and a H-Back? Football 101 type of question I know but I don't think I've ever fully understood. Is he comparable to Kris Wilson is more of an H-back for KC with hopes of being the heir apparent to Gonzo. Both players in a contract year for KC. At6'5" 245 lbs seems a little big to be used as in a traditional fullback position and if that is where he ends up unless you need a fullback on your squad - I would think he wouldn't have much fantasy value. If used as an H-Back - (going out for passes as well as blocking) he in my thinking might have more value. Coyle had him as an Anthony Becht type player.

Thanks guys

Pretender,Had this moved here from the IDP Forum as you'll get better responses here on the prospects of Jeff King.

The "H-back" term goes back to Joe Gibbs Redskin teams of the 80s. There's really not much difference between an H-back and a solid pass receiving FB who will get even fewer carries than the traditional FB. I think a H-back may align a little wider in the backfield, but for all intents and purposes, I'm pretty sure there's no other major difference.

Sure some other guys in the Pool will have a better answer than that.

Think, Keinsasser of the vikings. I'm pretty sure thats how he was lining up quite often. As for King, I drafted him on my rookie taxi squad, so I'm hoping for the best. Realistically, I don't expect too much this year. Perhaps career-wise too. He's a longshot darkhorse but may not even warrant a taxi squad spot.

I hesitate to say the name, because some will read it and either expect similar production, or just laugh at that thought, but isn't this role similar to Chris Cooley in his rookie year?Obviously not the same caliber, but how are the roles different?
