Jeremiah Johnson (1 Viewer)

He split backup duties for the Texans with Steve Slaton last night against the Cowboys and looked tremendous. At 5'9 220, he reminds me a bit of Jonathon Stewart, which is ironic because he played understudy to Stewart at Oregon. Hes absolutely explosive through the hole and is also extremely powerful, carrying some of the Cowboys defenders at the end of a few runs. I know that Arian Foster is the darling of the FFA, has shone this preseason and has probably locked up the starting position for now, but Johnson is not one to sleep on. he trumps Slaton for the #2 spot, he may even see some carries early in the season. Looking at the big picture, he the kind of guy that could be a star in the right situation if given the opportunity.

I posted in an earlier thread that JJ is the real deal. I watched every college game he played in and he is my favorite Oregon player of all time. He split time with Jonathan Stewart and they were interchangeable. The stars are beginning to line up for JJ to get some playing time. He sat out last year with a shoulder injury. Do not be surprised if he comes on this year like Slaton did a few years ago. Also, Oregon runs a zone read blocking scheme, which is what Houston runs if I am correct. He is a very patient runner and is a winner!

He ran a 4.57 on a fast track on his pro day. Not exactly impressive for a scat back, but he has looked good since surgery. he did have surgery on his separated shoulder, right?

At 220 pounds, I wouldnt call him a scat back. He can run between the tackles much like Ray Rice or Jonathon Stewart.

Somehow I wouldn't call him "much like Ray Rice or Jonathon Stewart" :goodposting:

worth a shot, I grabbed both him & Henry after Tate went down. Figured one of them would emerge. Just wondering if it's time to cut bait on Henry because you never know with Kubiak?

Scat Back..??? Not even close.

JJ if healthy is a great RB. There were days he out worked Stewart

Meh. Haven't watched any of his NFL carries, but don't remember being too impressed by him at Oregon. At best he's probably another Justin Forsett.

He seems much more effective than Slaton. I'm not just talking about stats, he just looks faster and more powerful too. I own Foster in a couple of leagues and each time I watched JJ run I got a little more ticked because I was hoping there wouldn't be someone to really threaten him for carries or for Kube to pull the first time he fumbles.

i dont think there the same type of player, but i would be thrilled if he became justin forsett

I'm already tagreting him for my last round pick. Believe me Arian Foster is not that good.
Does Johnson have ball security issues like Slaton and Foster? Kubiak will bench a guy in a heartbeat if they fumble. Foster now has 2nd chances becasue hehas been getting playing time. If Johnson gets in there and puts it on the ground he may not see the bll again for a long time. I also am considering dropping huggins for Johnson mainly becasue TB sucks ###.

How's his ability catching the ball?

Jeremiah Johnson-RB- Texans Sep. 3 - 11:27 pm et Texans waived/injured RB Jeremiah Johnson (dislocated toe). The plan is to work out a settlement and re-sign him to the practice squad. A highly impressive preseason performer, Johnson has been unable to stay healthy through two training camps. He missed all of his first season with a shoulder injury, and the injuries may increase the chances he clears waivers.Source: Houston Chronicle
Weren't people on this site saying stuff about Johnson eventually taking carries away from Foster?OOOOOOOF.

The signing of Ward made JJ a victim of the numbers game. He showed some ability, so he may get an opportunity elsewhere, or perhaps he ends up on a practice squad.

My understanding was the release was more injury forced since he'll be out for a month. Wouldn't close the book on this kid just yet.

Sorry, but you are just assuming here and you are wrong. He got hurt, dislocated his toe in the last pre-season game. Up until then he was playing for #2 on the depth chart and he was looking like a good probability for it. Ward was signed the day after he got hurt.
